Success in Scoring, Part 2: Pitchers stopping hitters

This story references another piece I did yesterday that looked at the likelihood of a player or team scoring once a man reached.  It can be found HERE.  You may recall, or you may not there...

So the Rays are Horrible With a Man on Third and Less Than 2 Outs?

Recently, there has been quite a bit of debate about whether the Rays are using the right processes in the above scenario.  I thought a good way to end the conjecture and look at this rationally...

FanGraphs is amazing for a lot of reasons.  One of the many is that they are tracking value (in terms of $) at the individual and team levels in nearly real time.  With this we can get a small...

A-Rod's last 5 years

5

Hey guys. I was looking at some stuff today and came across the stat lines for Alex Rodriguez for the last several seasons. It is very interesting that at 32 he is starting to have high swings of variability after putting up consistent numbers year after year. Now, of course a down year for A-Rod still leaves him in MVP contention, but it is interesting that his numbers are fluctuating so much from year to year. This could be something that gets expounded going forward making it much harder to predict how/when he is going to be assaulting the record books. I wanted to get your guys thoughts on this. Do you think the up year/down year pattern will continue? Will it become more exaggerated? Is this typical of guys exiting their "prime years"? Shoot me an e-mail if you have any questions.

Jerry Meals is behind the dish tonight. We could see some Brawlfense all over his ass. He better have a consistent zone or Navi is gonna hold him down and let Garza go psycho on his face.

Posey Signs Lincecum to Posey for the next 4 years sounds downright dirty. Too bad they will still be counting on the bat of Omar Vizquel's decrepit skeleton in that time.

Question from a Rays fan

Who would you rather have this year, for only this year: Player Alpha a 45 year old, former 20 game winner with a 112 ERA+, 2:1 K:BB, a winning record, and 114 IP   OR Player B a 29 year old...

Yet another option for RF

2

This guy helped carry my fantasy team down the stretch last year. If you check out his splits there is some fall off away from Coors, but .777 OPS on the Road is still not bad for a guy that solves our CF/RF situations. Rocks always need pitching so perhaps something like Hammey/Royster or Hammey/Mason or if Mad Dog isn't going to use him how about Gomes/Hammey. Dude would hit 50+ dingers in the rarified air. I see Spilborghs as a guy that capably plays outfield and can hit quite a bit. Especially lefties. Essentially he is what Gomer needs to be in this lineup. This also allows us to cut ties with either Zobie or Greg Gross. After a slow start our Farm teams have been playing very good lately, so if we can free up some roster spots and bring in another bat (RH) I say we do it
