SBN: Pau, not Kobe, primarily to blame for Lakers' offensive struggles.

Something most observant Lakers fans would already know, but something still widely overlooked in the mass media, is Pau Gasol's inordinate refusal to just man up and play ball - made even more glaringly obvious now that Andrew Bynum has returned. An interesting piece featuring many pretty charts arguing the point.

After the Lakers uninspired win against the Timberwolves, they find themselves at a fork in the road, with both paths familiar to us. Which path will they choose against Denver?

The fuck? (Also funny that the Lakers were unanimous in their Conference, but somehow not unanimous in their division)

Lakers Championship DVD Available July 27th at NBAStore.com

Now that the dog days off the offseason are truly in session, no better time to sit back and rewind on the season. For me, it still hasn't truly sunk in the accomplishments the Lakers achieved this prior season (down 2-3 in the series, down by 13 in the third quarter of Game 7... Jesus), but maybe seeing all the events recapped through the official DVD will help.

Bynum's "minor" surgery scheduled for July 28th.

12

For those of you wondering as to what happened to Bynum's surgery (initially reported to be on July 18 - supposedly it was delayed because his surgeon did not have any earlier openings), here's some info. This surgery is for a minor meniscus tear, not any tendons or fractures, and thus complications are unlikely. From the piece: "Fortunately for Bynum and the Lakers, his Achilles is fully healed, and he’s confident that recovery from the minor knee surgery won’t cut into his offseason plan to improve his core strength, footwork and finishing moves." Sounds all good.

BREAKING NEWS: Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade choose Miami

26

As reported by ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade have agreed to play in Miami. Details of the arrangement are extremely limited, and it is not yet known whether Bosh will come to Miami outright or through a sign-and-trade, which would free up more cap room for the Heat; but it seems extremely likely both will be getting the maximum contract allowable. Regardless, Riley is a smart GM, and will likely fill out the rest of the roster well. The Miami Heat may well end up your 2011 Eastern Conference Champions - though anything may happen. There is a possiblity, particularly if Bosh comes on a sign-and-trade, that LeBron shall join the duo, but for reasons already well-covered both here and elsewhere, that seems unlikely. Of course, nothing is official until July 8th, but Broussard and ESPN seem fairly certain of their sources, certain enough to place the story on the front page of ESPN.com. Now, with Amare's max deal with New York, Joe Johnson's max deal with Atlanta, and Pierce and Dirk re-signing with their respective teams, LeBron James is the only major Free Agent yet to decide upon a destination, therefore granting him the attention he always craved. He's scheduled to announce his decision on an ESPN special on Thursday night, once again according to Broussard.

Amare Stoudemire agrees to contract with Knicks.

123

And the first major shockwave of free agency has hit. Stoudemire, who was only offered a partially-guaranteed max contract by the Phoenix Suns, instead opted to take the Knicks' full guaranteed max contract. Amare is a perfect fit offensively in D'Antoni's system, but doesn't play D. All in all, a perfect fit. Now that the first major move of free agency has been made, it's possible a 'snowball affect' will occur and many other contracts will be signed in the next few days.
