CelticsBlog Stupid & Unrealistic Offseason Scenarios

To save space on the fanpost section I’ve decided to make an all purpose ‘Stupid and unrealistic offseason scenarios post’.

The reason I’ve done this is because too many people are still under the delusion that we can snag Lebron or Bosh ………. or both! Or that we can trade for Melo!

This is your all purpose dreamland trade and sign scenarios post!

Go on give it a go.

Come on, you know you want to.

Okay, I’ll get you started with this example

We can get everyone!

Hear me out people. Now that Pierce has opted out it leaves us with like, $20m on the books so we sign Lebron James by sending Rondo and Doc around to his place to talk him into it. Chris Bosh is leaving Toronto anyway so why don’t they get something in return right? We get them to sign and trade for KG. I understand Chris Paul is quite pissed with the whole “My team isn’t committed to winning” thing and may want a trade so we do a straight swap for Rondo. Dwayne Wade will see all this happening a crap his pants so he will sign for the MLE. Then because Perk is injured we sign Shaq for the LLE and out lineup will look like this.

C- Shaq

PF- Bosh

SF- James

SG- Wade

PG- Paul

6-Baby

7-Tony

8-Nate

9-Who cares

10- Who cares

11- Who cares

12- Who cares

This scenario is very possible because I’ve done it on NBA 2K10.

Okay now that you’ve seen that example, you can make up your own on the all purpose post. Go on, go ahead and go!

CelticsBlog Trade Ray

For those of you who want to trade Ray. He is still a high level player, the reason why he seems less effective this season is because he is shooting less and therefore scoring less. These are his FG and 3pt attempts per game in the last 3 seasons.

Year     FGAPG           3PTAPG

08        13.5                 6.2

09        13.1                 6.2

10        12.7                 4.8

The most significant drop has come out of his 3 pt attempts this season. Sheeds jacking up 3s like its no ones business (also 4.8 per game) and that takes away from Ray’s shot attempts. Rondo has come up strong this year and that also takes some of the shots away from Ray (not that its a bad thing).

His stats show that in the first 17 games he averaged 15.2 ppg at 30% from 3 but the last 18 (since December) he has averaged 17.7ppg at 40% from 3. I know that people are suggesting we get some youth in but I think that trading anyone in the starting lineup (unless we get a sweet Pau for Kwame type deal) can disrupt team chemistry and probably make us weaker contenders. Lets face it, you cant be on top for ever and the C’s championship window is probably this season and next if we’re lucky. Why mess with that and ruin a realistic chance to compete for a championship.

CelticsBlog The NBA and it's consistency

I puzzled with the lack of consistency by NBA authorities. Not that I’m defending Gilberts actions but he has reportedly been suspended indefinitely or for a year for having 3 unloaded pistols in his locker. Didn’t Delonte West get pulled over in the offseason with enough firepower to take on the Predetor (a 9mm Beretta in his waistband, a Ruger .357 Magnum strapped to his leg, and a 12-gauge shotgun in a guitar case slung over his back, all loaded) and he gets the you poor fella treatment and is on court right now against the Wizards. WTF!

Seriously, did I miss something? Is there more to these stories that make them so different?

Fear The Sword Why the Cavs are in trouble with or without Lebron

Lebron is a brilliant player. May even go down as the best ever once all is said and done but the Cavs are in trouble and I’ll tell you why. With the exception of Bron Bron this team has no all stars (and no, Mo and Shaq aren’t all stars, more on that later). All the Championship contenders have at least 2 all stars with the exception of Cleveland.

Compare the Cavs starting lineup to the top 2 teams in the NBA, the Celtics and the Lakers. Where would the Cavs starters (main men) be in their lineups. This is purely based on talent and not team chemistry.

Shaq would be backing up both Bynum and Perkins (who are not all stars……. yet).

Verejao or Hickson would be the 3 rd PF for each team. Behind Odom in LA and Sheed in Boston.

James would start on either team.

Parker would back up Bryant in LA and would be fighting with Eddie House for the 2nd SG position in Boston.

Mo Williams would start in LA and come off the bench to spell Rondo (who is not an all star) in Boston.

The tragic thing about the Cavs is the fact that management have $64m committed to role-players this season, role players who without Lebron would be out of the playoffs and probably closer to the likes of the Bulls and Knicks. Even more tragic is the way the fact Cavs management have run the team in such a way that they will be stuck with this group for the next couple of years without any cap space to sign an all star. Maybe you’ll get a trade like the one that LA got in 08 where they traded a dead fish and an old sock for Gasol but don’t count on it.

I’m not saying Lebron can’t win the championship by himself but it’s unlikely. Please don’t argue, just look deep into your heart and you know what you just read is true.

CelticsBlog Are Scal and TA being advertised?

Do you guys think that Doc (+Ainge?) is giving Scal and TA more playing time recently in an attempt to advertise them for a trade? Perhaps they are simply earning time by showing better form in practice? Or that’s just the minutes that they’ll get until Baby and Daniels come back then be relegated back to the end of the bench again?

Sorry I would insert a Poll but I’m on a work computer (Sshhhhhhhh!) and it keeps crapping itself whenever I try to create one.

Blog a Bull Are you kidding me?

Where were you Vinny when Jarret Jack was tying his shoelace? After the game you said “ That’s not acceptable”. From who Vinny!? The players or you!? You just stood and did nothing while all this was happening. Any other coach would have blown a fuse during the play and told someone to pressure the ball. You could even hear the fans getting agitated at the time but not you.

After 2 blowouts in a row you decide to make a major adjustment and insert Brad Miller into the starting lineup. Well done! We all know how that turned out.

Can anyone tell me what kind of coach Vinny is? Defensive? Offensive? I don’t know. On offense it seems like the Bulls just get the ball to anyone and say “ok, you do something with it this time” and it doesn’t matter whether it’s Rose or Gray with the ball. And on defense they look like they are playing a sort of “scramble” style that you would find 10 year olds playing.

Seriously, he has got to go. We had the likes of D’Antoni and Johnson lining up for this job but we chose an unproven guy with for the job. At one stage even Pippen was expressing interest in the job. Not that I’m saying Pippen would have done a better job ………… actually no, that’s exactly what I’m saying. A dead squirrel would have done a better job. At least a dead squirrel cannot give bad advice.

Maybe Pax is waiting until Christmas eve.

CelticsBlog Fire Doc Rivers!

Just read this post and you will soon see why Danny should sack Doc and employ me as head coach.

Forget James, Wade, Melo, Bryant and all those other “Superstars”. We have the best player in the world and (maybe best ever) and we seldom use him which is a real shame. Doc does not know what he is sitting on.

The most explosive offensive force ever. I’m talking of course about Brian Scalabrine.

He has finally had one hell of a breakout season averaging 80% from the field and 80% from three.

This is what I will do for the Celtics when I become head coach; Start Scal and give him KG’s minutes, give Garnett Sheeds minutes, give Sheed Sheldons minutes and give Sheldon Scals former minutes (very little). Then I would give the ball to Scal every time on offense and get him to shoot as many shots as these so called “superstars”. I’ve done the math and at that rate he should average a touch over 40 points per game. And whilst he is not as good a defender as KG we should still win by an average margin of 19 points.

Result: We finish the regular season with a record of 78-4. Scal wins the MVP and the C’s raise banner 18!

CelticsBlog Everybody Chill

The fact is, if the c’s won that game against Atlanta where they got screwed by the refs and the game against Orlando where a lot of good looking 3’s didn’t drop they would be 12-2 and everybody would be calling them the team to beat and not calling for a trade.

I’ve been following the NBA for a while. In the 92-93 season the Bulls went 10-4 to start and stupid people where calling for a trade involving Pippen, Grant or Armstrong. How did that turn out?

In to 05-06 season Miami started out with a 8-6 record and people where criticizing Pat Rielly for bringing so many old has been players on board and how did that turn out?

Everybody just needs to chill.

CelticsBlog Can Paul Pierce win the MVP?

Yes I know that Kobe, Wade, Howard and Bron Bron are the hot favourites but what if the C's finish with the best record in the NBA and PP is the best player on the team? KG should have won it in 08 but they decided to give a lifetime acheivement award (MVP) to Bryant instead. There's nobody around the league right now that deserves a lifetime acheivement award that has not won the MVP more than PP at this stage so why not give him an MVP if he posts good numbers (20ppg, 7rpg, 6apg) and leads his team to the best regular season record. They gave Nash and Dirk the MVP recently for doing it. Why not the Truth?
