Some Advanced Stats from McLemore's Freshman Year

5

There is some good stuff in here. Some notables: *Led all Division I freshman in Win Shares. *McLemore's points-per-play average was the highest for a freshman since Kevin Love and Michael Beasley in 2008 (min. 500 plays). *Highest points-per-play average in the clutch among all draft prospects this year, shooting 67% from the field in the final five minutes of a game and OT. *Better on-ball, pick and roll, and help defensive statistics than Victor Oladipo. Its no wonder our stats-loving front office loved him.

What does a successful preseason tell us about previously bad teams?

There's no doubt that this was a very successful preseason for our Kings. 5-2 is the best record we've had since the last time the team made the playoffs. But it seems like there is a mantra...

Hawes possibly to sit out tonight

More rotation revelations - After seeing his starting spot go to veteran big man Sean May in the opener, third-year center Spencer Hawes - who has been dealing with a slightly sprained left ankle - struggled in 23 minutes (five points, three rebounds). "His ankle is still bothering him," Kings coach Paul Westphal said. "We may hold him out (tonight). I don't want this thing to drag through (preseason)."

"This is a good opportunity to see guys in a different setting, outside of their college uniforms, and against guys at their positions. It’s one means of measuring players against each other. From a skills perspective, you can look at their ball-handling, look at their shooting, evaluate their mechanics, and get a feel for them that way. It’s a piece to the puzzle. You don’t want to make it more than that. There is a danger that when it comes so close to the draft that you forget the body of work. This is an opportunity to see them in a different setting, and in that regard it’s important."

"We weren't progressing," [Joe] Maloof said. "We were regressing instead of progressing. We didn't get the sense we were going anywhere. We were spinning on wheels. You can't have those kinds of home losses. We were losing games by 20 points." ... "Every owner wants to win immediately," Maloof said. "The owners wouldn't be where they are if they didn't have that kind of competitive drive. They're just as competitive as the players and coaches. You're right there on the court. You can feel it. You can see it when they're not performing the way you think they should. You've got to have something that the fans can grasp and hold onto."

Hoopsworld Rumor: Brad/K9 for Marion offer on the table for Kings?

46

"There is truth to a discussion about Marion being swapped for Miller... nothing is close, nothing is pending... in most situations rarely does a deal get instant approval from both sides... its rarely "Hey I'll give you Kobe Bryant for Keith Bogans" - and you instantly make the deal... a lot of time there is so much parity in a move, or so much that could fail in the move that teams tend to let things simmer - sometimes its because others have to be involved in the decision... rarely does a deal get instantly done, and more times than not its simply about shopping for the best deal. The floor on Brad Miller is Shawn Marion... now can the Kings do better than that? Thats where the hold up tends to be... this belief that maybe I can do better and keep shopping... I would say it this way, you move Brad Miller today, then find out tomorrow you could have gotten Kobe Bryant for him... you tend to lose your job that way.... Think about how bad Memphis got run over what they got for Pau Gasol - nothing gained by jumping too quick." Do it Petrie!

New jerseys. I like the overall scheme. I wish the two vertical stripes on the away jersey were black, and I wish they wouldn't use "Sacramento" (It's too long and cluttered IMO), but other than that, very slick.

Staying Ahead of the Curve
