Hogs Haven Keeping up with the Joneses; the Jerruh Joneses

I was at my local watering hole last night for a pint with my girlfriend and ran into a buddy who is in the crane business - as in sale and rental of giant construction cranes.  He told me he and a business partner were at Fedex field yesterday discussing and scoping out a project bid.  Not that I walk in tall circles, but Gary's friend happens to own the business that erected all the steel for Fedex Field's original construction.  Why were they there?  More after the jump...

No. It's just another crass money-making gig that will force some season ticket holders out into the street while copy-catting one of the worst owners in sports

Hogs Haven Just out of curiosity...

I'd like to hear everyone's take on this:  Let's just say we go with Ben's notion that the 'Girls are about to implode this year and in fact they do so.  Surely this will mean the end of the Son ova Bum.

Who do you think will be Dallas' next HC?

The biggest name I can think of who will likely be available is Bill Cowher.  Do you think Jerruh would bring in such a high powered dude?  Would Cowher take the job knowing his boss is going to be a controlling pain in the arse?  Do you think Jerruh goes for an up and comer? ...a relative unknown?  ...a re-hash of someone who has recently been canned or will be canned after this year?  Does anyone know what kind of ties Jerruh has around the league he could tap into? Any other ideas/names?  Perspiring minds want to know...

Hogs Haven This is what I've been talking about

Here is a profile for Brandon Graham.  I'm not saying it could happen, but he could be a real nasty-great player for us - and a lot cheaper than Peppers.  He ran a 4.69 in the combine (official) so I thought he might even be able to play ILB for us in a 3-4 (if we have to go that way, let's go in style).

It would be a miracle if we were able to move in such a way to get him, but he is definitely the type of player we want, IMO.  And basically, this is just for interest and comment while all the crazy stuff continues w/FA and posturing for the draft.  I think I have the requisite number of words, now, so here's the link:

Hogs Haven This just in from Arrowhead Stadium

Very strange but not surprising take on FA this season as it pertains to the Redskins.  Something about Danny using the 2-headed, lethal combination of personal corporate jet and a Brinks truck to sign FAs.

Anyway, it's all about a push for the Skins to get both Peppers and Sproles onto the roster.  Here's the link as I am pretty much just wasting words to get the minimum in for the post to take.

Hogs Haven Guide to drafting QBs

Saw this on Yahoo Sports and thought I'd share: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AqbyY_mZRH0ppwslLu3KIO1DubYF?slug=jc-directsnap022210&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

This does not in any way resolve the situation - if we have one - with Jason.  But it gives some good advice about how to go about drafting a "franchise" QB and discusses some of the available candidates.  I'm not saying this is the "gods truth" on the subject, just that it is timely and somewhat informative.

Hogs Haven The reality behind the JC "situation"

First of all, I have been a JC fan since his arrival.  We all know what he has been through physically - totally pounded this year - mentally - familiar with just about every offensive system known to mankind - and emotionally - treated like garbage by Snyderatto.

At this point, I would like to give you my thoughts as to where we sit with regard to JC and what happens next year and beyond.  The poll at the end provides options; the "analysis" comes after the jump.

Assuming a non-Cap year and that building the O-line is still a primary goal of next year's draft, what do we do with Jason?
Wish him well and trade him for draft picks, including a high profile NCAA QB

Hogs Haven Why Jason and Zorn will be here next year...

All of what I'm about to say is predicated on the team showing continued improvement.  Beating the 'Girls and either the G-Men or the Dolts will cement it in factuality.

Hogs Haven Redskins' Hit Nut Sack in New PR Low

Shutdown Corner's Doug Farrar has a good commentary on the report out of The DC Blog by Dan Steinberg.  I won't rehash it all here, but check out the link:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/Redskins-have-appointed-a-quot-new-leader-quot-?urn=nfl,206824

It's just despicable....I at least thought that idiocy might come into play in the way we get played by this organization.  Now it is apparent that they are very aware of what the fans want in terms of their team's needs - and they use it to goad us into buying cars.  F'ckem'...Feedem' Hotdogs...

Hogs Haven Dallas & Philly: Best Possible Outcomes?

Given our new found objective of drafting a QB out of college (and retaining the FFO), apparently the strategy is to play well so we can evaluate our younger talent, but not win!!  This makes sense if Snyderatto are going after a high No.1, high profile draft bust yet still expect to see overall team improvement while resting our overpaid free agents

Is there any other explanation for our 1st Qtr WTF plus our two game-defining offensive turnovers to end the second half?  OK - they do have a stealth receiver in Desean "The Invisible Man" Jackson and we were comfortably ahead with a few minutes to go in the half which kinda blows the strategy, but...  Of course, the completion of the game strategy is to simply play well the rest of the game (for the most part) and allow the team you have dominated all day to waltz down the field for the game winning score.

Now that I understand the overall organizational strategy, I feel pretty good about this.  I saw improvements everywhere with our young players making outstanding plays, hard hits on defense and a lot of pressure on McNabb with a 4-man rush. We also saw an amazing number of 3rd and long conversions.  All of this is pretty amazing and very satisfactory after the garbage I've watched the first 7 games or so.  All this improvement and entertainment - without the inconvenience of securing the W and moving down the draft ladder.

And sorry, LETJASON PASS, I think we saw Jason pretty much at his best with some good play calling, nice runs and passes (to M. Kelly was as pretty as I've seen him throw) and yet he continues to miss wide open receivers and commit the game-defining offensive turnover(s).  Letting Asante Samuel jump him twice on forced passes along with missing Moss wide open down the sidelines pretty much cemented it for me  Yes, QBs are allowed to make mistakes, but....

Poll
Now that we understand the overall organizational strategy by the FFO, do you think they will keep Jason as a back-up?
Yes, this would be the smart thing to do as he has shown improvement and can take a pounding next year while the line jells and the new QB gets acclimated

Hogs Haven Gibbs Not Returning

Hank Kurtz from AP Sports is reporting that Gibbs will not be returning to the Sklins to bail out Dan Snyder help the team rebuild.  I have mixed emotions about this, but in the end feel that this is best for Gibbs and the Skins.  I personally doubt that Gibbs has enough left in the tank to undue this mess and at his age, it will take too long.  Just goes to show how monumentally screwed up this franchise is at the moment.  Hopefully, a win tonight will help.  HAIL!

Poll
Is Gibbs not returning a good thing?
Yes - let Danny-boy clean up his own mess

No - Gibbs is the only person on the planet that can save us from the Sta-Puft Marshmallow Monster who owns our team.

Hogs Haven Could this be part of our "problem?"

I'm a little new to this, so please bear with.  If you have been following Hogs Haven the last several weeks you've probably read a few of my posts.  If you have, you might suspect that I've been a tad upset with my beloved Skins. Well, yeah... So, with this post I'm trying to be a little more constructive and not just bash.

A lot of educated guesses and opinions about our team's performance have been proffered recently.  However, I came across an article on the Yahoo NFL homepage today that gave me a possible insight into what we are experiencing with our offense.  In the article, Joe Buck is interviewing Joe Namath, Dan Marino and John Elway.  Buck asks them if today's game is more complicated than when they played.

Marino had the following to say as part of his reply:

It’s not that the coverage is any different because there’s only so much you can do. But, as a quarterback, it’s sorting through what’s really there. Is this guy really in this coverage or is he trying to trick you? I think you see with a lot of quarterbacks that (the offensive coordinator) will only have them read one side of the field so that it doesn’t get too complicated.

I've had the distinct feeling for a long time now that Jason doesn't "see" the entire field, much less check off from one receiver to the next in a Brady/Manning progression kinda way.  In Sunday's game it appeared to me that Jason was going to a primary receiver and if that guy wasn't open, he was automatically going to Cooley as his release guy.  If you recall, Cooley caught about half of his passes by curling off the line and just checking down about 6-8 yds down field in the spot normally occupied by the middle linebacker. I don't believe he was the primary receiver on those plays.

Are we limiting ourselves in the passing game to a primary receiver and a safety valve on most plays?  The above scenario would explain why we rarely go deep - it takes time for deep pass plays to develop.  Maybe Zorn is so concerned about our O-line that we are resigned to these quick hitter types of pass plays with a safety valve.  Or has Jason not progressed to the point that he can read the entire defense and make appropriate decisions, thereby limiting the opportunity to find secondary receivers, among other things. This would also explain why I've seen several receivers get open down field, even deep occasionally, but the QB ends up throwing short.  Any thoughts?
