SOG & Differential - Goalie vs Goalie or This Year vs. Last
Through 3/9/11 (or 67 games)
I've been thinking about the ups and downs of this season compared to last as well as the idea that the Hawks play hard for this goalie vs. that. I wanted to see if the numbers for SOG were dramatically telling for different periods this season (monthly) and last. Also I wanted to see what they looked like depending on who was in net. My TV is broke so while I'm waiting for Fed Ex to deliver my parts I thought I'd do some research.
Full stats below the jump:
Go See the Cup tonight (updated w/pictures and video)
If you saw the airport interview with Toews this [Thursday] morning when they asked him who gets to sleep with the Cup tonight he said something to the effect of "it will be with all of us tonight. We're all getting together and it will be with us wherever we go."
Well the Hawks have begun their bar crawl tonight, and it is with them. They were at Tavern on Rush about 45 minutes ago, and as of about 10 minutes ago your beloved Cup is at Rockit. Just search Twitter for "Stanley Cup" because wherever it goes somebody Tweets "holy shit I'm at [insert name] and the Hawks just walked in WITH THE STANLEY CUP".
In the words of Airplane, "ok boys, let's get some pictures".

Are you curious to know what Flyers fans think of your mighty Hawks? (dept: be careful what you wish for)
Over at Broad Street Hockey, the writers put up a thread for their commenters to enjoy Game 4 of the WCF. I thought it would be fun to read through and see what they thought, and it was.
Idea (Category - Pipe Dream)
The Olympics got me thinking about what elements of that tournament could be adopted by the NHL to capture some of the excitement that it brings.
One element that seems interesting is the fear of sudden death during the single elimination tournament. The Canadian players who had to go through the play in round compared it to having to win four consecutive Game 7's. I don't think it makes much sense to alter the NHL playoff format, but they are right that the sudden death tournament added to the excitement.
So why not scrap the All-Star game in favor of a mid-season single elimination tournament? I don't think this idea has a snowball's chance in hell, but it does make some sense in some ways. Explanation after the jump.
USA A-OK
I apologize in advance for taking up this much space with worthless ramblings. You needn't bother reading, I'm mostly just writing this to get it out of my system. That Olympic hockey tournament was the best pure heroin of hockey there ever was, and now it's over, and I'm supposed to pretend I care about the Islanders tomorrow. Fuck.
So I need to get all of this out of my system so I can get back to enjoying the Blackhawks and NHL hockey again. Endless BS, after the jump ...

Olympic Odds
During last night's Hawks/Nucks game the text poll question was about which country would win the Olympic hockey gold and the early returns among Hawks fans (I didn't see the final results) had about 70% of the respondents picking the USA. While I admire the patriotism of Hawks fans (see 1991 All-Star game) and I'm very much looking forward to seeing Patrick Kane skate circles around chumps like Seabrook and Keith, realistically the US is probably an underdog to win gold.

Face Offs!
When the Hawks left for the road trip we were all gushing about the faceoff prowess at the time and I mentioned that we had gone through a favorable home schedule and it would be interesting to see how the numbers moved on the road where the road centerman has to have his stick on the dot first.

Versus is a third rate shitbag network
The Blackhawks have no business being associated with Versus, a third-rate shitbag network that is unworthy of the Indian.
