I just wanted to personally thank each and every player, coach, member of management, hell even the water boy! Everyone connected with the Lions in any way. This has been a long time coming for sure and today's victory was SO sweet! We, as fans, have been the butt of jokes for so long and it feels like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I'm sure you all feel the same. It was a hard fought game with a bunch of ups and downs and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I don't know if you guys noticed, but with Avril and Sims out, every starter on defense was playing elsewhere last year. Crazy. The day is finally here Lions fans. Time to celebrate!!! GO LIONS!!!!!!

As promised, the Lions continue to shuffle their roster in an attempt to field the best 53 man squad possible. Minutes ago, Milve reported that the Lions have traded a undisclosed draft pick to the Bills for saftey Ko Simpson. I've personally never heard of him before but he is expected to start opposite Delmas. He is 6'1" and just over 200 lb's so he has size. He's a third year player so he has experience but is only 25 so there is room for improvement. Like I said, I've never heard of the guy so he can't be that good but he has been a consistent starter so he can't be that bad either. I just hope we didn't give up a high pick, but I have faith that Mayhew wouldn't do that. Simpson did play all 16 games last yr but was inactive the year before due to injury. He also got arrested for I believe obstruction of justice. Here's a link to that story..... http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3806195
What do you guys think???

A different spin on Fantasy Football (DEFENSE) and everyone's envited

I know there are a ton of people on here that love fantasy football based on the four leagues that Sean has going right now. I like to play the standard leagues like everyone else, but I also like to switch it up sometimes.

The normal FF is all based on offense (and sometimes one teams defenses total stats), but it neglects my favorite part of the game, of course the Defense! Fleaflicker is an awesome site that Sean got me hooked on last year when I participated in the overflow league. The main reason I love the site so much is because of it's simplicity and customizablility (screw you spell check) I can add individual players as well as adjust all kinds of points both given and taken away for a plethora of categories....and if you go to the points layout, you will see that I took full advantage of what they had to offer. I won't go into too much depth because it's a ton of content to transfer.

There are going to be four divisions of four (if your math is rusty that's 16 teams), first round bye for two teams with the championship game taking place on week 16. I also want to ask only serious players sign up and that is no joke. I don't want to discourage anyone, I just want you to know what your in for. Since we are drafting both offensive AND defensive players, the draft ends up taking a while. You really need to be prepared with you defensive players as they don't seem to rank them properly (ex Ray Lewis was ranked as the 400ish) or at least have enough NFL knowledge to be able to name a bunch of defensive players that are really good off the top of your head (aka addicts like me, and probably you if you're reading this).

The real fun of the is when to stop drafting offense and start to fill up your defense. The Defense will win you a lot of games if you pay attention and will cost you if you don't. There will be a live draft Thursday 9/3 at 9:00 PMFeel free to ask any questions in case I forgot something. This is a really fun way to play the game guys and I hope you give it a chance. I'm going to leave it up here exclusively for a little while but if it doesn't fill up I'm going to post this over at Detnews forum. I hope to see you there!

All the evidence points to Dante starting.

So the Lions use the number one pick in the draft to select a quarterback. The supposed savior of the franchise. The man with the 41.7 million dollar arm. The former Georgia Bulldog has been charged with turning the franchise around after the worst season in NFL history. Only one little problem...Dante is going to start.

The reason I think Dante will start comes from our fearless leader himself. Jim Swartz has said he hasn't decided who will start week one and even if he did, he wouldn't tell us because leaving everyone in the dark gives the Lions a supposed competitive advantage over New Orleans. While that may be true, I think it has more to do w/ the reps in practice. If Starfford was going to start week one, then he would be getting ALL the reps. Dante has been in the league for years. The only reason to continue splitting them evenly is because Dante will start but they still want to get Stafford involved so he can take over at some point.

Why give Dante so many reps if he is just going to be the back up? You have to think that they are going to sit Stafford until the lions are out of playoff contention. It would get us through the year which I believe is the goal. All the comments we have been hearing from Mayhew and company have the same theme...tempered expectations. They know they aren't going to the playoffs. They don't have the talent. But with the additions in this years draft and another whole offseason to build upon what they have in place, I see next year as a huge opportunity.

Are the Lions doubting DB?

So the Lions put Daniel Bullocks on the waived/injured reserve list today. With Bullocks' recent visit w/ Dr. Andrews (THE NFL Dr. de jour), no one was particularly surprised with this move but what took me aback was the timing. If the reason behind the move is to clear up a roster spot, why wait so long? You know he's going to get picked up by another team. Maybe, in the best senario, Robert Francois is a stud that Minnesota foolishly let go. Maybe, more realisticaly, DB has lost a step.

Daniel was a second round pick not to long ago. Certainly someone worth taking a look at by the new regiem. He came into practice and didn't impress and when he tweeked his knee and had to sit out, the Lions sent him to Dr. A for a looksee. That obviously didn't go to well. I love/hate Swartz' new policy on injuries because it doesn't let the opponent know who's hurt and who's not and to what extent, but it doesn't tell us either.

So why not wait the few weeks and just put DB on IR, retaining his rights. Instead, the Lions decided to give 31 other teams a chance to sign the former second rounder who has show more than a flash or two and someone whom I was personally looking forward to watching on Sundays. I assume this is a serious injury and he may/will never be the player he once was such a short time ago. At least I hope that's the case.

Shaun says Shaun want's back in

If you haven't heard yet, we've signed Shaun Smith, the ex-Brown as of three days ago, yesterday to a one yr, one million dollar deal. While that's a good signing in my book (as we just lost Devries for the season with a blown achilles), the real story, imho, came in Smith's first interview after his first practice.

Smith proclaimed (apparently he was known just as much for his big mouth as his big play on the field)...

"That's my best friend and he wishes he could come back here now. He misses it,'' Smith said after the Lions' morning workout. "You've been somewhere your whole career and you have some good times and you see the talent they're bringing in - (Larry) Foote, (Julian) Peterson and (Phillip) Buchanon - the defense is better now. They've got some quality veterans who can play and there are some young guys with potential".

Here's a link for the full story. Just copy and paste

http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2009/08/shaun_smith_former_lions_dt_sh.html,

Personally, I never wanted to get rid of the guy in the first place. I know may Lions fan did but I'm sure most would welcome Shaun back w/ open arms. You can't argue his ability, just his motivation. If you're argument for not wanting Rogers is based on the 1-7 collapse a couple yrs ago, I would argue that he is the main reason (him and a ton of luck) for the 6-2 start.

If you argue that he was a cancer then, I would rebuttal that if you were in his position (all that talent but being stuck on the Lions w/ Merrynelly and Joe Barry and Jim Colletto as your HC, DC, and OL coach respectively) you would be upset too and, when that overflows and you express your frustration to the media, they blow it out of per-portion and label you a cancer. Remember, Shaun did not chose to come to Detroit, nor did he chose to go to Cleveland. If I had my choice (and was as gifted as shaun), I would NOT chose to play for Manginia and I certainly would not to choose to play for merrynelly. My guess (because I obviously don't know Shaun personally) is that the guy just want's to win and has never been to the playoffs and has only been close once.

If you argue that he is to fat and lazy, unless you are of the same body type and play in the NFL, then I would say you don't know your elbow from your ahole when it comes to that. Neither do I so it will be a short conversation.

Basically, to me it comes down to that fact that this team would be head and shoulders better than they are today if we traded for Shaun Rogers. I truely believe we could contend for the playoffs.

That said, I don't think it will happen.

In the final seconds of the last game of the season in 2000, freakin Paul Edinger kicks the game-winning field goal that keeps the Lions out of the playoffs. Not only do we go to the playoffs if he misses, but we probably don't hire the porn-stashed meathead Matt "lipshitz" Millen.

DAMN YOU PAUL EDINGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want the last eight years of my life back. He probably get a little smile on his face everytime someone for the D bitches about Lipshitz (That's my pet name for Millen).
