PSU Athletes in 3D
Well, their bodies anyway. Jack Crawford is in there for the football team...doesn't look like much of a freak in weird 3D
Happy Halloween PSU-style
Figured I would put this here instead of Fanshots. Happy Halloween.

A little read on her preparations for gameday cooking. Also includes some recipes.
Penn State/PA Pride in Iraq
Not sure if this was posted before but thought it was very cool.
Thanks to all the servicemen/women!
Bacon Saves Marriot $$$$$$$
"Next time you order breakfast at a Marriott, you may notice something new about the bacon. Instead of being served in identical six-inch strips, it now comes in an assortment of sizes. That's because senior executives of Marriott, after sampling four or five varieties of bacon in a blind taste test, found that an irregular cut, which costs less, tastes just as good as the rectangular slices traditionally served in the company's hotels."

Eating Habits
SI discusses what a couple athletes have done to improve their health after their CFB days are over. Linked to it mainly b/c it mentions that PSU was one of the first (maybe the first?) D1 program to hire a nutritionist (in 1991). Apparently, to this day, not many D1 programs have a full time nutritionist on hand, which is surprising.
"A few other Division I schools use similar systems, but no more than two dozen athletic departments employ full-time nutritionists. Kristine Clark, a registered dietician whom Penn State hired as its director of sports nutrition in 1991, believes she was the first. "
Eagles' Biggest Rival
Forgive me if this has been posted already, but I recently noticed polls on Blogging the Boys and Big Blue View asking their fans who they thought was their biggest rival. The Eagles are first in both polls. Depending on the time period it's always been a toss up, for me at least, between these two teams as our main rival.
I, personally, think of the G'nats as our biggest rival due to the proximity and the back-n-forth history these teams have had the last decade. However, I'm usually in the minority when discussing this with other fans, as they all despise the Cowgirls a little more. And that Washington team, although they're frustrating and had our number, especially the last few years, is just "Meh" to me.
So, what do you think? If you had to choose one, who would it be?

Pitt diss
Lehighvalleylive writer discusses why Pitt shouldn't be added back to the schedule.
Storming the Floor
This was already discussed extensively, but I thought the timing of this was interesting nonetheless.
Penn State: A Destination Job
SI's Andy Staples calls PSU a destination job, one of the most attractive and desirable jobs in College Football.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/andy_staples/02/23/destination-jobs/2.html
As you can expect, this list consists of the traditional powers of CFB. Initially I was a little surprised that Georgia made the list over Tennessee, although after thinking about UT's poor record last year and their lack of a big-time name in the coaching search this year, it makes sense.
Remember this guy....
http://www.revengeofthebirds.com/2009/1/16/725395/arizona-cardinals-taking-a
Cameron Wake, formerly known as Derek Wake. Apparently he's been wreaking havoc in the CFL and a few NFL teams are giving him a look. I'm glad to see that's he's doing great up north, would like to see him get another shot at the NFL. This guy was a beast when he was on the field for Penn State.
New Years in State College
Will there be anybody up there? A few people were talking about going up to State College for New Year's Eve and doing a bar tour, then watching the Rose Bowl up there. I was just wondering if anybody is actually up there then?
I remember leaving for the holidays and not coming back up til the semester started....obviously the bar scene won't be the same, I'm just wondering if anybody has any idea.
Players Questioning the Playcalling
Interesting article. Eventually talks about how some players in the locker room have been questioning the playcalling these last couple weeks.
800
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't our next win #800. I haven't heard anything about the OSU win being 799, but coming into this season I'm pretty sure we needed 10 to get there.
If we win at Iowa, we will be the 6th team to do so. Here's to reaching 800 before our good friends from the south, Bama, who are only a few wins behind us.

Recruiting Budget
http://chronicle.com/temp/email2.php?id=qsMjnbxncyhpzdpGqdzyqxM9hZJffwVt#women
Two things strike me here: (One good, One bad)
1) Bad: The amount of total budget shortfall we have versus other schools.
2) Good: The high percentage of our recruiting budget that is allocated for women's sports. This is a good thing and can maybe explain some of our success in volleyball and soccer (our Lady Lions just pulled in top recruits from from England (2) and one from Vegas).
We are at a disadvantage on the football recruiting trail when comparing ourselves to other schools (aside from Jay Pa). As an extreme example, Tennessee allocates almost 6X as much to men's sports as us.
PSU Recruiting Class
FWIW, espn Scout's Inc has the PSU recruiting class as top 10 so far...
Eric Shrive Commits...
to PSU. Nice pickup of a (6' 7", 300) 5* OL. I don't have premium access, but here's the link.
Along with another OL from VA, Frank Figueroa (6'4", 270), the recruits are starting to pour in. The Shrive pickup is a steal as he was originally been reported as favoring ND.
This is great news. Now I'd like to see us pull is some WR's and a couple QB's.
