And so we say goodbye...
[Jon: Promoted from the Fanposts section.... in all the hoopla. Or hype, or whatever you want to call it, I'm glad somebody said something. If you take a moment, it is pretty sad to think about all of the tradition we left behind.[
Well, it's officially here. Over 100 years of tradition. From the cold autumn days in Ames, to the warmer but still chilly Novembers of Oklahoma. From the Rockies of Colorado to the Ozarks of Missouri. All gone in seemingly the blink of an eye.
We've officially moved on, moved east, moved forward.
This is truthfully the first time I've realized that there will be no more Games of the Century. There will be no more 2 ½ hour drives to Manhattan. There will be no more buff bashing.
I feel defeated.

Dear Mr. Bates... Shawn Watson is the finest....
Shawn Watson is the finest assistant the University of Nebraska has ever had.
OK, so some of you may disagree with that statement. But with the news coming out that the Miami (OH) head coaching job is essentially a coin flip between Shawn Watson and Ohio State co-defensive coordinator Luke Fickell, I figured Wats could use all the support that Husker nation could muster.
I've been rather vocal about my disdain for Shawn Watson as a play-caller, but truth be told, Watson's a pretty good coach and a great recruiter. If Nebraska loses him to Miami (OH), they'll have some pretty big shoes to fill. I guess to sum it up, we know what to expect out of him.
If Shawn Watson does become the next head coach at Miami (OH), who would you like to see replace him?
Tevin Mitchel To Arkansas
Arkansas picks up a big commitment from Mansfield (Texas) Legacy cornerback Tevin Mitchel (6-0, 180), a native of Pine Bluff who changes his commitment from Nebraska to come back home and be a Razorback.
Mike Ekeler Takes Indiana Coordinator Job
Ekeler informed Nebraska linebackers of his impending move Saturday morning. It was unclear whether Ekeler will coach for the Huskers in the Dec. 30 Holiday Bowl. He would become the first of third-year NU head coach Bo Pelini's original staff of assistants to depart the program.
Will Leaving The Big XII Hurt Nebraska In Recruiting The State of Texas?
Everyone knows Texas consistently produces the most high school talent in the country. Nebraska is not impervious to this information and currently has six verbal commitments out of the state of Texas, five Rivals 4-stars and a Rivals 3-star. With a national ranking of 8th by Rivals, 10th by ESPN and 12th by Scout, the current 2011 class is shaping up to be Pelini's best since he's been in Lincoln.
Nebraska's coaching staff is filling needs with this class getting commitments from offensive lineman Givens Mordi Price and defensive backs Charles Jackson and Tevin Mitchel. While filling needs, they've also managed to grab two of the most electrifying playmakers in the state with running back Aaron Green and quarterback Jamal Turner. However, the player I'm most excited about seeing is linebacker David Santos. David's undersized at 6' - 195lbs, but he hits like a dumptruck falling off of the Empire State Building, look for him to make an immediate impact on special teams next year.
Nebraska's coaching staff knows where it's bread is buttered and has continued to recruit Texas well. Nebraska currently has 25 players from the Lone Star State on their roster, by far the most from any state not named Nebraska. The coaching staff has made major inroads in Texas so I don't suspect we'll see a significant drop in the number of players Nebraska's able to sign. The B1GTEN Network will also come in pretty handy, I assume.
While we won't know the answer to the aforementioned question for a few years, it would appear that, for now, the answer would be "No."
Report: Dan Hawkins Out At CU
Vic Lombardi of Channel 4 news has announced that Dan Hawkins will no longer be the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes.
Dan Hawkins Out At CU
CBS4 Sports has learned a decision on the fate of CU's Dan Hawkins has been made. He is out as head football coach after five tumultuous seasons in Boulder. All that remains to be announced, when exactly Hawkins will leave.
For everyone concerned about the lack of production out of the defensive line this year. I've been going over field level video of every game this year and I'm seeing a disturbing trend.
Exactly how many holding penalties have been called on opposing offenses this year? 7.
Gametimes announced for Oct 16. MU at A&M (11am - FSN), UT at NU (2:30pm - ABC) and ISU at OU (6 pm - FSN).
An executive at a Big 12 school relayed to The World-Herald on Tuesday that he expects Nebraska to become a member of the Big Ten as early as Friday.
