My favourite sport is reading. Love the 'Grand Tours' because above all, they are at worst, small narratives. Live by the ocean, cycle only for fun and I'm not good or brave, but as a sport it beats all but the ones that take place in the ocean.

Tour Down Under Stage 5

Wilunga Hill baby! Yes, this is what passes for mountains in Oz. Cam Meyer will be determined to hold onto the ochre jersey, Luke Roberts wants the KOM and a contract with Saxo, Robbie wants to...

Tour Down Under Stage 4

It's still crowded at the top of the leader board, with Greipel snapping at the heels of Goss. That Matthews kiddie can climb hills, as can Gossy, and today there's Checker Hill which will be tough...

TDU Stage 2 Live

There's a locust plague...a sign of the Apocalypse? Does this mean Lance is going to win? Links to ABC radio at Steephill. There's a hill in this stage...who says we run a flat race. Missing Amber...

Stuey does it again

When this 'hard man' finishes his cycling career, he's applying for work as a crash test dummy.

Boo Hoo Contador

Astana aren't supporting Bert. Oh please...

Di Luca's suspension is over

I wonder whether Riis will be tempted..

Commonwealth Games Cycling

Will radio bans level course at Worlds?

I saw an interview today with Stuart O'Grady. There was of course all the usual chat about the strength of the Cyclones, the likelihood of Thor or Freire or Gilbert winning. The thing that struck...

Fabian is coming to Oz...the eagle has landed

You'll be relieved to know that as a result of making this trip, Cancellara has lost his 'virginity'.

Taylor Phinney to BMC

TP is off to BMC. I don't know what the thinking will be on this. I suspect it increases BMC's profile enormously. He is, after all, the Great Hope of US cycling. So is it a good thing?

Grand Tour Poll

Until this year's Giro I would never have believed that I could enjoy it more than the TdF. Chris has said today that in 2010 his favourite was the Vuelta. It's still third for me, but much closer...

An embarrassment of riches

Australia is fortunate enough to have scored 9 places for the Worlds... no mean feat when we consider teams like the Netherlands, the US and Britain , who are all likely to be fielding small teams....

Rabobank Fantasy Game has overdosed on Kool Aid

I'm not sure if all of you are able to play the Rabobank Fantasy Game for the TdF. Last year I didn't have a VDS team, but I was able to play this, and for the first week at least, with a good deal...

Tour de Suisse Live Stage (The thread that never was)

I haven't been able to access PdC for the last eight hours. Unless there has been an apocalypse, I'm assuming others have been similarly affected. So I've been keeping an eye on the ticker......

Vinokourov vs. Wiggins

Okay... I've been pondering this for a while... like the last 14 hours... For me, the live threads took an unusual turn last night. Suddenly people were cheering for Vino, which is fine by me,...

"" > I just have to say that this blog almost always makes me laugh.

TDU Stage 5 Live

Snapper Point to Willunga         Profile courtesy of TDU website Well, this is our version of mountains... sort of. Anyway, this is stage that the experts believe will decide the race....

TDU Stage 4 Live

Profiles from TDU site. Yesterday was a big day at the TDU. Cardoso sprang from the pack, surprising the hapless ABC commentators. His win was his first in the Pro tour ranks, but...

TDU Stage 3 Live

40 degrees celsius predicted today. Even Flatbagger's going to be sitting in the pub watching this leg of the race. I'm expecting a war of attrition today. Hope they don't melt near FB because...

What story would you write?

Slow times in the cycling world… but Christmas is coming. That may entail long hours indoors in the Northern Hemisphere, or lazy days at the beach in the Southern Hemisphere....

The Hard Men of the Peloton

They don’t make it to the Hotitude threads, they’re not the subject of debate when we talk about Grand Tours, but they’re there every day ‘driving the peloton’, ‘hammering out the rhythm’… choose...

Super Domestiques

Set aside your team alliances, nationality and bias think about GC favourites. Now imagine you’re one of those men: Contador, Schleck, Evans, Gesink, Armstrong or Samsan and choose the FOUR...

Godfather or Patron? Patronising the Peloton

Traditionally the Tour de France has a Patron.  A leader who rules the peloton like a medieval warlord rules his kingdom.  Remember back to the 1960s when Jacques Anquetil was lord of the peloton?...

Tour de Timor August 23rd-28th

"We want you.."  President of Timor-Leste, José Ramos-Horta       “Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, Adventurers and Athletes of the...

Vuelta Preliminary Start List

No doubt there will be many changes before the Vuelta actually begins, but in the meantime, we need something to talk about.I'm suprised for instance to see Fabian's name there and the fact that...
