Congratulations to Adrian Gonzalez and Heath Bell on being added as reserves to the All-Game, July 11th in St. Louis. Notable snubs are Trevor Hoffman and Alex Rodriguez. Five teams have two starters each -- the Cardinals, Phillies, Mets, Yankees and Red Sox. The A's, Orioles, Indians, White Sox and Royals were limited to one representative in the AL, while the Braves, Cubs, Pirates and Nationals each had only one player on the NL squad.

PHOENIX -- Jeff Moorad resigned as chief executive officer of the Arizona Diamondbacks to pursue ownership of the San Diego Padres.

The team promoted team president Derrick Hall to chief executive officer, Diamondbacks managing general partner Ken Kendrick said Friday.

Moorad will maintain his share of Diamondbacks ownership but would have to sell that if his effort to purchase the Padres is successful, Kendrick said.

Kendrick would not reveal what share of the team Moorad owns but said "it is not an insignificant amount."

Moorad's development of a group to purchase the Padres had reached the point when Major League Baseball rules required him to leave his job with Arizona, Kendrick said.

"I can confirm that Jeff has resigned and is interested in the Padres," San Diego owner John Moores wrote in an e-mail to The Associated Press.

Two weeks ago, Moores said he had hired Goldman Sachs to search for a potential buyer as he goes through a divorce with his wife, Becky.

"Goldman will look at offers and make recommendations," Moores said in a Dec. 15 e-mail to the AP. "I have been told that, because these are difficult economic times, I should be prepared for a wide range of interest and offers."

The NFL and NBA have full-time television networks up and running, and starting at 3 p.m. PST today Major League Baseball will follow.

ESPN, the most-watched sports cable station, reaches 98 million homes. The MLB Network, in part to forestall the access problems of the NFL Network, has made part-owners of several cable companies, including Time Warner, DirecTV and Cox, MLB Network President Tony Petitti said.

The three teams (save maybe St. Louis) who have the most insufferable fans that come to the game. People that lived 4 months in Chicago, went to Wrigley once, move to SD, been living here for 28 years, and are Cubs fans. Dodger fans because they won in the 70s and 80s. Mets fans because of 69 and 86.

I'm voting for Cubs. At least Dodger fan is cheering and rooting towards the field. With every Cub hit, walk, strike, or safe call I was treated to a speech from various drunk former Northsiders than found a soapbox and must tell me for the ten-thousandth time that this is their year, Padres suck (thanks, I got that), etc. I usually bring up Bartman, 1984, goats, that the C on hats stands for "choke", etc.
