OBNUG Poll: Should Boise State University resume football games with the University of Idaho?

The University of Idaho’s Athletic Director, Rob Spears, has recently been cited as being in favor of resuming the gridiron competition between his institution and Boise State University. Members...

Kellen named 10th best quarterback

11

Athlon Sports placed Kellen Moore in their "Top 10 Quarterbacks of the BCS Era." Unfortunately, the lady picked to deliver the verbal description of each is probably not a college football fan, as she pronounces Kellen's name as "KEELEN." Maybe she's a dUI journalism grad.

Old News--Ole Miss all-SEC linebacker suspended for Boise State game

2

It's so slow out there, I've taken to looking for news about our 2014 football opponents. It appears that Ole Miss is suffering from Sarkisian Fever, as the Rebels' HC, Hugh Freeze, is freezing out at least two of four off-season acts of criminality by members of his team. One has been kicked off the team (CB Bobby Hill), one has been suspended for the Bronco game (LB Denzel Nkemdiche), and the jury is still out on the other two. No word yet on Austin Seferian-Jenkins. (Oh. Wait.)

Happy Birthday, No. 98!!

Bjb3hc_iiaequat

From the Idaho Statesman: "Legendary former Boise State football coach and athletic director Lyle Smith visited practice Tuesday, the day after his 98th birthday. Coach Bryan Harsin presented Smith with a No. 98 jersey and a locker nameplate with No. 98 like those in the Broncos’ locker room. Smith spoke to the team for about 5 minutes and told the players how much their dedication means to him." http://blogs.idahostatesman.com/watch-highlights-from-tuesdays-boise-state-football-practice/#storylink=cpy

Randy Trautman is gone

2

The Bronco All-American and member of the College Football Hall of Fame passed at the age of only 53. Randy was a member of the 1980 National Championship team. Our sincere condolences to his family and friends, and thanks for the memories, Randy! Rest in peace, and say hello to Pokey for us.

Deuce is back

13

But he'll have to sit out the 2014 season, meaning that he will be on the field in time to make life miserable for the Huskies in 2015. His transgression, according to Cripe, had something to do with NCAA "unethical conduct."

R.I.P. Steve Connor

2

I was shocked this morning to read that Boise State Hall-of-Famer Steve Connor died at the age of only 57. As a basketball guard, Steve left BSU as our all-time leading scorer. In the mid-70s, he played for his dad, head coach Bus Connor, and was instrumental in taking the Broncos to our first-ever NCAA tourney. Condolences to Bus and Steve's family.

Idaho has a reputation for more than just drinking

11

Evidently, this particular story hasn't been picked up outside of our state, so I'm posting it for Nuggies around the country. It seems that the University of Idaho football coaching staff is continuing its tradition of nasty play (hat tip to Bob Kustra for defining the practice). Just weeks after dUI Head Coach Paul Petrino discussed specific grass species with Wazoo Coach Mike Leach ("fescue"), the dirty-play dUI sideline allegedly called for deliberate injury to Fresno QB Derek Carr. This may come as a surprise to some of our gentler readers, but those of us who have endured dUI bullying through the years are well acquainted with the syndrome. It's a strange species, that "Tribe from the North."

Let the Smack Begin

It's been reported that both the Boise State Broncos and the University of Washington Huskies (a.k.a. the DAWGS) have finally started preparing for their showdown on August 31. There hasn't yet...

Another silly poll has the charming Broncos at #14

8

"Silly," because this is "College Football's Top 25 Most Interesting Teams." If you're too lazy to click on the link, here is the text about Boise State: "14. Boise State The enduring charms of Boise State remain: the unfolding hellboxes of shifts and motions that make their offense so maddening, the random Dutch dudes on the roster (hello, Ricky Tjong-A-Tjoe) the defense that rotates no fewer than 23 different defensive linemen and linebackers in on a single series, and the inevitable progression of every quarterback who takes a snap under center from clueless n00b to computerized and ruthless avatar of Chris Petersen's football soul. This year's is Joe Southwick. He's going to be a brilliant Las Vegas Bowl MVP."

CableOne Announces Agreement for Washington Game

8

The Statesman reports that CableOne has reached an agreement with the new Fox Sports 1 network (FS1) to carry the August 31 game on standard cable channel 26. It's also available in HD. No agreement yet with Dish or DirecTV. If you come over to my house to watch the game, I'm partial to Alaskan Amber. Bring plenty.

It's July 1. Do you know where your conference is?

6

Boise State is still slugging it out with the conference previously known as the Big East over exit fees. Attorneys are getting wealthier as BSU sued, then the American (nee Big East) counter-sued. Unfortunately, Coach Pete is enmeshed in the controversy when he has more important things to do: "Boise State football coach Chris Petersen will be deposed in the case on July 22. Athletic director Mark Coyle on July 23 and Kustra on July 24. A teleconference with both parties and the judge is scheduled for July 26." Aw, let 'em eat cake!

Oregon receives minimal NCAA sanctions

4

Although the Ducks are still prohibited from ever beating the Broncos on the gridiron, but that was a given before the investigation.

Walk The Blue, tour the stadium, meet the team, pick your seats!

9

Treasure Valley Broncos and those willing to travel to Boise will have the opportunity for their June football fix on Friday, June 21, 4-6 p.m. Celebrate the longest day of the year with a tour, some autographs, and a round of cheer at one of the watering holes on Broadway.
