Pettit breaks wrist

Per Baseball America:

In the midst of a breakout season, Pettit suffered a fractured left wrist that will require surgery. He batted .367/.411/.556 with 21 doubles in 50 games for Triple-A Salt Lake.

No bueno. Pettit wasn't going to be a starting outfielder for us, but it would have been nice to see what he could do with a shot in the bigs. Here's to a speedy recovery, Chris. Come back raking.

Bill MacDonald - Panther

While Joe Saunders and Howie Kendrick panthered their way to lead the Angels to a thrilling Opening Day win, Bill MacDonald scored on his own near the Carl's Jr. on the first-base side of Angel Stadium.

My buddy caught this action while he got up to get some food - around the time that Howie hit his HR.

This is bad.

Frozen by fraud

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Pitcher Darren Oliver made a wise professional decision this winter when he accepted a salary arbitration offer from the Los Angeles Angels and parlayed it into a one-year, $3.665 million contract amid a weak market for free agents.

In relation to the on-the-field impact, maybe Oliver pitches balls-out to recoup some of his lost investment with pay increase next winter.

Lackey + Angels = WTF?!?!

OK, so I'm not a math major, but he equation makes sense to me. It's killing me that the Angels haven't re-signed Big John to an extension, locking him up and keeping him away from the free agent market at the end of the 2009 season.

Yes, he's made it known that he wants some run support. And no, we didn't do anything this off-season to really make him feel comfortable that he will actually win 15+ games with an ERA in the mid-3's. But if he hits the open market, he's a goner.

Either the Angels are sitting on their hands and blowing this last-chance opportunity (Lackey said he will not discuss his contract during the season) or Lackey's mind is set and, barring a large, large Angels offer, he's hitting the market anyway.

To fuel my disgust, Phil phucking Rogers had to go and name Big John the top free agent of the 2010 class.

Per the link, Buster Olney is reporting that the Twins and Joe Nathan have agreed to a four-year deal in the $11-12 million range.

I said it, at least to myself and close friends (not sure about this Web space) that four years, $48 mil is fair for both the Angels and K-Rod. Looks like the Twins think it's reasonable, too.

Get something done. Please. Shields isn't right.
