Tostitos Fiesta Bowl Question/Discussion
I'm sitting here in my red (not crimson) snuggie watching the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and reading old DTN threads. And the question occurs to me: Why is the champion of the Big XII, the seventh-ranked team in the nation, 11-2 Oklahoma Sooners playing an unranked, 8-4 UConn team? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?!? This game is the poster-child for a CFB playoff system.
Discuss.

Tech's DC Discussing This Week's Strategy
Exclusive Video. How Tech plans to keep the Missouri offense in check. I think this video captures the real spirit of the coaching staff.
It is clear to me
that the Administration hasn't a clue what they are doing.
This is the twelth day since Leach was suspended, and we still have very, very little information which direction the University is headed. No one is at the helm. We are adrift.
We know there have been some interviews, but we don't know much else about them.
McNeill was interviewed on Monday morning, and again Thursday evening. If the administration was really impressed with him, you would think they would have hired him by now.
Tuberville interviewed on Tuesday, and in the initial radio interview on Wednesday, he talked like he knew he wouldn't get--or he wouldn't take the job.
Briles considered the job, but quickly withdrew his name from contention.
The evidence is clear to me that the administration doesn't know what it is doing. I get the impression that these candidates were initially interested in the head coaching job, but they were scared off by the craziness or idiocy of the administration. They all seem to be saying, "O hell no, I ain't working for these bozos!" What other explanation is there?
Who are these people making this decision? AD Gerald Myers. Almost 74 years old. Lame duck.
Guy Bailey. The man is well published as a sociolinguist. (Is that kinda sorta like a community organizer?) He headed the University of Missouri-Kansas City before coming to Tech in 2008--not much history with the university, and how much sports management experience could he have?
Kent Hance, the elder-statesman. Longtime politician, lobbyist, now Tech chancellor; chosen because Tech needed someone to lobby on the university's behalf with the governor, legislature and other powerful figures. What part of his resume relates to the hiring of a D1 football coach? He's not the all-powerful, calculating figure characterized in the hit-job sports article posted earlier today.
Who is in charge here? We saw general disorganization and mishandling during the renegotiation and extension of Leach's contract.
It has also become apparent over the past week-and-a-half that Tech did not see this coming. If they did, they would have had a plan for Leach's successor. No, I think the decision to suspend and then fire Leach was nearly spontaneous. I think Tech got word and heat from ESPN that the Adam James issue was about to break big, and someone panicked.
This entire situation is absurd! The administration needs to issue a statement of some sort to tell the public exactly what is going on, and letting us have some idea of when the process will be completed. We need leadership! We need action!

Adam James Makes The Onion Sports Network
Concussed Texas Tech Receiver After Emerging From Dark Shed: 'That Was Exactly What I Needed'
Leach Amended Lawsuit
"Fired Texas Tech coach Mike Leach is accusing his former bosses of making "slanderous and libelous" statements intended to damage his reputation.
"Court documents filed Friday said statements made by university administrators "were made intentionally" to harm Leach and expose him to financial harm."

Coming Out of the Woodwork
If Leach was such an abusive coach, we should have heard complaints from other players by now. Past players. Present players. Where are they?
This is Getting Out of Hand
Over on facebook, Team Leach posters are asking everyone to boycott United Supermarkets, because they support Texas Tech. Are you kidding me? What do you expect them to do, take the name "United" off the United Spirit Arena? Talk about biting the hand that feeds you! That's just dumb.
Populism can be an exciting and interesting phenomenon to watch, but it can be dangerous, too. C'mon Techsans; you're smarter and better than that!
I just have to say...
Go Horny Toads!
We'll raise a song, both loud and long
To cheer our team to victory
For TCU, so tried and true,
We pledge eternal loyalty.
Rah, Rah, TCU!
Rah, Rah, TCU!
Fight on boys, fight, with all your might
Roll up the scores for TCU
Hail white and purple flag whose heroes never lag,
Horned Frog, we are all for you!
F-R-O-G-S F-I-G-H-T
Purple, White, Horned Frogs Fight
Victory, Victory, Right, Right, Right
Rah, Rah TCU! Rah, Rah, TCU
F-R-O-G-S F-I-G-H-T
Go, Go, Horned Frogs Go
TCU Frogs Fight
Riff, Ram, Bah Zoo
Lickety, Lickety, Zoo, Zoo
Who, Wah, Wah, Who

HuffPo Video: Leach Cusses James
Very short video clip, but it ain't good for the Captain:
Of course, what do people expect? This ain't tiddly winks. From the story--
"The Big Lead flags footage of former Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach berating Adam James at practice in April. In the video, Leach appears to say: "I can't even stand to watch you f--king stumble around. S--ty f--king effort like you f--king accomplished something."
"Leach was fired on December 30, 2009 after James complained that he was forced to stand in a small, dark closet while he was suffering a concussion. Alleged video of the incident was posted online. Texas Tech (without Leach) is currently playing Michigan State in the Alamo Bowl."
Regents: 'Other things' factored into Mike Leach's firing
From the Detroit Free Press--
'Other things' factored into Mike Leach's ouster
ESPN: Trainer Contradicts James' Story
Texas Tech Football Trainer Contradicts James' Story
NOW they do a little investigative reporting!!
"Adam showed up to practice in street clothes, no team gear, and dark sunglasses," Pincock said, according to the statement. "Adam walked about 40 to 50 yards, very slowly and with a non-caring attitude."
Pincock said Leach then asked that James be moved to a location "where sunlight could not bother him as he was wearing sunglasses."
"I instructed Adam to stay in the garage and out of the sun, so the light would not worsen his condition," Pincock said in the statement. "While in the garage, Adam was walking around, eating ice, sitting on the ground, and, at one point, sleeping; at no point was there any enforcement to make Adam stand up."

Coach Leach as Admiral Rickover
Question of the week: why did Coach Leach place Adam James in a dark, tight space?
Was is just a spontaneous decision based upon the circumstances?
Someone commented on one of the editorials that Admiral Rickover was known for putting subordinates into closets, so I googled it. I found that Admiral Hyman Rickover was considered a mad genius. He developed the Navy's nuclear submarine program. He was known as a quirky, cantankerous fellow, and he was misunderstood by his contemporaries. Sound familiar? He was interviewed by Diane Sawyer for 60 Minutes back in the 80's.
Check out this portion of the transcript, regarding one of the Admiral's infamous interview techniques:
SAWYER: And what about those that you brought in and made stand in the broom closet?
