L'AQUILA, Italy - Strong aftershocks Tuesday sent a fresh wave of fear across earthquake-shattered central Italy, and rescue crews pulled a young woman alive from a collapsed building about 42 hours after the main quake struck the mountainous region. Eleonora Calesini, a 20-year-old student, was found alive in the ruins of the five-story building in central L'Aquila, said her grandfather, Renato Calesini, in the seaside town of Mondaini.

What. A. Disaster.

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama unveiled a multi-trillion-dollar spending plan Thursday that would boost taxes on the wealthy, curtail Medicare, lay the groundwork for universal health care and leave a string of deficits dwarfing any in the nation's history.

In addition to sending Congress his $3.55 trillion budget plan for 2010, Obama proposed more immediate changes that would push spending to $3.94 trillion in the current year.

That would result in a record deficit the president projects will hit $1.75 trillion, reflecting the massive spending being undertaken to battle a severe recession and the worst financial crisis in seven decades

The new deficit total is roughly equivalent to $12,000 for every taxpayer in the United States, or approximately $6,000 for every man, woman and child in America.

The cost of the stimulus bill and the increased bailout support would push the deficit for this year to $1.75 trillion, nearly four times last year's record $455 billion and a percentage of the economy — just over 12 percent — not seen since World War II.

Reserve fund for health care
Obama's plan proposes to build up a $634 billion reserve fund he would use to expand health care coverage to some of the 48 million currently uninsured Americans currently. The fund would represent little more than half the money projected to be needed to extend health insurance to all Americans.

The plan also contains a contentious proposal to raise hundreds of billions of dollars by auctioning off permits to exceed carbon emissions caps, which Obama wants to impose on users of fossil to address global warming.>>

The $1.75 trillion deficit projected for this year would represent 12.3 percent of the gross domestic product, double the previous post-war record of 6 percent in 1983,

Obama's blueprint awards domestic agencies budget increases, on average, of 7 percent in 2010 over 2009 levels. The Pentagon would get a 4 percent boost, to $534 billion next year, but would then get increases of 2 percent or less over the next several years.

So, universal socialized health care that we'll be stuck with forever and will cost us trillions, deficits 4 times as large as under Bush, emmissions caps that will help destroy the economy further and act as basically just another tax increase (Now we know why Democrats are so in love with global warming mythology), spending "cuts" that the article states have never been achieved by past presidents so probably wont happen anway, more tax increases, oh, and average 7% budget increases for federal agencies. Good to see that at a time when Americans are tightening their belts, the government can raise spending even more than usual.

In summary, what a boondoggle..

I'm all for the idea of pull a Pettite, admit it, get it over with, people apparantly respect you more. But it doesnt work for me for Arod because he's clearly still lying. He's just admitting enough to try and explain the positive test. It's obvious to me he isnt telling the truth though.

The whole "Oh, I was under the pressure of 252m so I did it" was such lame baloney, and another pathetic attempt by Arod to pin this on those dirty Rangers btw.., because he saw a sympathetic "in" in that angle for his PR purposes. But LSB still hates Tex instead right? Because you guys are real consistent. But the reason that excuse rang so BS with me was because, his (supposedly pre-roid) performance in Seattle was what GOT him the huge contract..proving he certainly didn't need some sort of sudden help. It just doesnt make a lot of sense. Yep, he fabricated that along with so many other portions of his story to make a nice pat PR friendly narrative.

Yep.

He's not getting that much money. By todays standards.

We supposedly have money to blow..

He would anchor the lineup for years and more than pay for himself by actually drawing fans to the stadium. Most Rangers fans stay away now since the team is just a collection of mercenaries on two year deals and triple AAA players the last 6 years or so.

The only complaint I can see is.."BUBBUB we got some crappy minor leaguer coming up". So? We've gone through how many all star 1B and traded them all? Tex, Pena, Hafner, etc. Wont harm us to trade some more. Chris Davis, and all the other minor league 1B, or whatever will just be traded anyway, in either case, whether we sign Tex or not.

But, that move would mean we get serious about winning. So yeah, LSB wont like it, and wont happen.

But Owens seems to be finding it increasingly difficult to conceal his irritation. Last week in Pittsburgh, on the first possession of the Cowboys' most important game of the season, a team source who reviewed the game tape said Romo threw an interception when Owens mysteriously failed to complete his route. Troy Polamalu intercepted the ball at the place where Romo expected Owens to be. Later in the half, Romo underthrew a pass for Owens that was intercepted by Ike Taylor and Owens gestured openly in Romo's direction as he walked toward the sideline that the ball should have been thrown further upfield. But what upset Owens' teammates most of all was his response to the interception Romo threw on a pass intended for Witten that Deshea Townsend returned for the game-winning touchdown in a 20-13 defeat. Both the quarterback and tight end publicly accepted blame for the Cowboys' season-high fifth turnover. In contrast, Owens said the offense stunk, that the team can't win with turnovers like those and then suggested his defender was playing off in single coverage and that he was open but Romo decided to throw elsewhere on the fatal play. On the sideline, Owens was seen yelling at a Cowboys assistant coach. In his news conference after the game, Owens implied that Romo's decision to throw to Witten was the wrong one, saying, "It's his job to go out there and assess what the defense is, and he made that decision.''
