C-Grand talks VTTigers on Rome show
Just happened to be in the truck when Jim Rome was interviewing Curtis Granderson today on the radio. Rome brought up the subject of a loyal Tigers fan named Brian Bluhm, who sadly lost his life at VT.
Granderson was his usual perfect gentleman self, and obviously had nothing but good things to say about Brian, the school and his family. Most of us already know that Curtis posted on Brian's blog, which is already above and beyond, but he apparently wrote a letter to Brian's family as well.
Good job to Jim Rome for bringing up the subject, and as always good job to Curtis, who may be the nicest guy in baseball. If only there were more Granderson's instead of Bonds' in the sport....
Jared Weaver called up
Jered Weaver - S - ANA - May. 26 - 5:50 pm et
Angels purchased the contract of RHP Jered Weaver from Triple-A Salt Lake.
Weaver, 23, earned the opportunity by going 4-1 with a 2.05 ERA, 44 H and 66/8 K/BB in 57 IP for Triple-A Salt Lake. He should be available out of the pen on Friday night and he could get one or two starts before Bartolo Colon returns. If he pitches well, the possibility exists that he'll bump his brother to the pen. AL-only leaguers should grab Weaver right away. He's not as exciting of a possibility in mixed leagues -- his flyball tendencies could result in a subpar ERA despite strong showings in WHIP and strikeouts -- but it is possible that he'll have some value. Who to build a franchise around??
This is a hypothetical question, but if MLB were adding an expansion team that you are the GM of, and you could choose 1 current MLB'er and 1 current top prospect, who are the guys you build around??
Is your MLB'er a proven vet like Vladdy? or a young stud like M.Cabrera?? Do you prefer pitchers? or a key position like catcher or SS??
Do you draft Felix Hernandez over Johan Santana and hope for long term rewards?? Are you sold that Brandon Wood or Delmon Young can carry a franchise??
I realize this isnt the most realistic venture, but the idea came to me as I'm in the middle of a new keeper league draft. Curious as to your thoughts. Thanks.
Glaus to Toronto deal reportedly done.
I live in Toronto and the word is that Glaus is a Blue Jay now. Toronto sends Orlando Hudson and Miguel Batista to Ari for Glaus and an unnamed prospect. If healthy, then Glaus is the power bat that JP has been looking for. Losing Hudson's defence will hurt a little, but the Jays are intent on putting Aaron Hill there.
What does this deal mean to the Toronto corner infield spots?? They now have Glaus, Overbay, Koskie, Hinske & Hillebrand. The rumor is that Overbay plays first due to better defence, Koskie plays third due to better defence, and Glaus will DH. Hinske sticks around, and Hillebrand is now trade bait for a upgrade for the corner OF spots. What do you think??
