Bad Left Hook THANK YOU GUYS!

THANK YOU GUYS!

I just managed to finish my paper. Literally, just now I finished. I feel as if I have just finished writing a book in miniature version. I will probably have a stack of misspells here, but I do not care because my brain is out of commission.

I just wanted to thank you guys for everything.

So, thank you: Waldo, Drunken Cutman, Brick, Kid Blast, Brian Brock, and who ever else I missed... ..... ... .. ... .. . .

THANK YOU!

Bad Left Hook Help needed on term paper!

Hey guys,

There is a term paper due for my communications class and I have decided to hold it on the possibility of the "decline or death of boxing" in the near future. I have yet to decide which way I should go, but I am still in draft stages so I should consider myself okay. In simple terms, the term paper generally has to do with the content analysis of the boxing community's and the MMA community's emotions and reactions towards this topic. I want to get feedback from both because it is not fair just to have a one-sided argument. At the moment all I want is a simple yes or no. Moreover, I will be developing a series of 5 to 10 questions on the matter which would further explain the analysis of the subject specified. In addition, the questions would probably be mixtures of simple multiple choice and short answers.

Thanks,

Sickle

Rumor Fight: Gillermo Rigondeaux vs Celestino Caballero?

Notifight is reporting that Caballero's representative, Sampson Lewkowicz, has confirm a possible clash with Rigondeaux on the 10th of April at Madison Square Garden. Most probably at the Wamu Theater at the Garden, I doubt a fight like that will be showcased in the "actual" garden. According to the article, Lewkowicz has the date reserved with HBO. The fight is scheduled for at 126 or a catchweight of 124. This will be a great fight for the two. Caballero can finally get some spot light and Rigondeaux can continue to shine. Nonetheless, if the fight does happen I wouldn't be surprised with the outcome...Rigondeaux TKO 5

FOTY Candidate and Possible upset of the year! Carlos Tamara stops Brian Viloria on the 12th!

Just finished watching this badboy. This fight was an all out war. Viloria was getting tired during the later rounds and found himself in trouble on the 11th round. At the sound of the bell he was just trying to land something "crazy". Tamara took over in the middle of the round. The ref eventually stepped in and stopped the fight. I was a great fight. First FOTY of the year.

Juama Lopez injures ankle!

He appears to be in "ok" condition to continue training. The only problem is that he won't be running for a couple of days to avoid any more pressure on it. Juan Manuel Lopez is scheduled to headline a bout with Steven Luevano at the MSG Wamu Theater.
El Nuevo Dia is reporting that Lopez hurt his ankle going down steps of his house. The fight has yet to be postponed.

WTF? Pavlik vs Espino Set For December 19, Top Rank PPV

WBC/WBO Middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik has, according to various reports, recovered from his staph infection and plans to defend his titles against Miguel Espino of "The Contender" fame on December 19 in the headline bout of a show that takes place in his backyard of Youngstown, Ohio. Pavlik had been scheduled to face Paul Williams on December 5 but withdrew, for the second time, with the lingering staph infectionon his left hand. Williams will now face Sergio Martinez on the same date.

Bad Left Hook Cotto-Pacquiao Yankee Stadium Press Conference - Pictures Edition

Here are some images I took while attending the Cotto-Pacquiao Yankee Stadium Press Conference. I would also like to add that Paulie Malignaggi is a real cool dude. When he showed up the fans showed a lot of love and he did the same. Jashua Clottey was no different. What I found very interesting about Paulie were scars on his right hand. I had completely forgotten about the number of injuries he received during his previous fights. On the other hand it was pretty funny how the first round of Cotto-Clottey was shown everyone within the crowd just started slamming on him after Cotto knock him down. No pun intended though, fans showed him respect. I asked Paulie about the rematch with Diaz his response was: All set for January at least that's the contract I signed.

At the end of the I was able to get an autograph from Clottey and asked him what's going on with the Mosley bout. His response: The deal is almost finalized just unsure on the exact date for December.

Also, I gotta mention this... the Diamond Belt was being exhibited on the conference table. What a crock of shit. If it looks horrific in pictures, it is truly a formidable nightmare from 50 feet away. It almost looks like one of those Latino whatever whatever belts. When it was taking out from it Glass case the crowd just booed. Only thing missing were tomatoes.

Oh before I forget, Roach looks a lot better fit wise than how he is exposed on TV.

Bad Left Hook Roman Martinez wants Robert Guerrero or Humberto Soto

Lntgecwh_medium FanPost promoted by SC

Recently, a video was posted by El Nuevo Dia featuring Roman "Rocky" Martinez (22-0-1, 13 KO's) discussing his upcoming PPV bout on Saturday against Vicente Martin Rodriguez, and also talked about who he might want to face next should he win on the 12th

Martinez mentioned both Humberto Soto (48-7-2, 31 KO's) and Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero (25-1-1, 17 KO's), each making for potential unification clashes at 130 pounds. While Soto is fighting this Saturday in Mexico and has been heavily rumored to move up to 135 against Edwin Valero on November 14, Robert Guerrero had this to say:

"Bring it. If Martinez gets past his next opponent, I would love to fight him. He is a worthy champion that says he never refuses to fight anyone, anywhere, well if that is the case, than let's do this! A unification bout between Martinez and me is great for our sport and the fans deserve these types of fights."

Guerrero-Martinez would be a terrific fight, a continuation of the age-old Mexico-Puerto Rico boxing war.

"Being that I'm Mexican-American, a fight against Martinez brings two cultures together for a fabulous night of boxing. He says nobody can stop him, we'll see if he can handle the heat that's going to be coming from my fists.  I believe in myself and the great team around me. If he steps in the ring with me, he'll find out real quick that he's in a battle. Martinez is a good fighter, but I believe God has blessed me with the more superior attributes. I hope this fight happens."

Considering that Martinez has changed his style of fighting, I would wait until this Saturday to see how good he looks, and how ready he looks for a test against Guerrero. I truly hope this fight does happen. I doubt it will happen this year, but perhaps in early 2010. Who knows? Maybe it could be paired on HBO with the rumored Juan Manuel Lopez-Celestino Caballero fight for January.

Bad Left Hook David Haye vs Nikolai Valuev May Now be In Jeopardy!

Boxingscene:

By Maria Bezchastnaya

The bout between David Haye and Nikolai Valuev may be cancelled. The champion’s manager Boris Dimitrov spoke about the complications in the interview to Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper. The main obstacle for the fight is the official WBA challenger John Ruiz who wants to defend his rights. WBA in its turn still hasn’t made the final decision on this matter.

“Most likely it’s because of Ruiz, - told Dimitrov. – He writes complaints to WBA. He’s got good lawyers. Besides, he claimed many times that he wouldn’t let this bout happen. The thing is Ruiz is the official challenger for the WBA world champion title and initially we had planned the bout with him. But as Nikolai had already fought this American boxer and won, his promoters decided to look for another opponent for a change. And now they must ask Ruiz to give away his title bout with Valuev, because in other case his November bout with Haye may be cancelled.

"The situation is unfathomable. And the Association acts totally unpredictable. Everything is done very lame. But it’s not surprising. Boss said – boss did. There were cases when they made one decision at first and then later cancelled it themselves. And now we can’t understand what we should do. Should we start preparations for the bout with Ruiz? Or for the bout with Haye? Or just to sit and wait when the next opponent is finally named officially. The situation has to get clear within the next few days”.

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez calls out JCC Jr.!

There's no link to this; however, when I was watching Alvarez' fight last night and KO'd his opponent on the second round he was asked where he wanted to fight... on a foreign land or back in Mexico.
To his response he said: I would like to fight back here in Mexico and bring me Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. I want to teach him a fighting lesson.
To be honest, I have never been interested on a Chavez Jr bout until now. If it happens that is. I am going to be an a-hole about this, but I agree on the teaching JCC Jr. a fighting lesson. There's nothing exciting about watching Chavez Jr. fight or watch the fight on PPV for that matter as always. Hope both sides come to an agreement before the end of the year to bring this bad boy to life.

Note: Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is a GOLDENBOY fighter and judging from the small stirs with Top Rank this year it might be interesting on how everything will be agreed upon. However, I doubt it should be all that bad for JCC Jr. Honestly, how much more garbage can you put this kid up against. Can't be all garbage; nonetheless, JCC Jr has been given 2 gifted wins thru his career.

Bad Left Hook Lawsuit could interfere with Super Six!

Dan Rafael:

Mogens Palle, who has promoted boxing in Denmark for more than 50 years, is not letting go of Kessler so easily, even though Kessler dumped Palle after a 10-year run together and recently signed with German powerhouse promoter Sauerland Event just before the tournament became official.

Palle is threatening to sue everyone under the sun for interfering with what he believes is a valid promotional contract with Kessler.

"I've been biting my tongue for too long, and now I want to set the record straight about Kessler, about the pirate promoter Sauerland Event and the pirate cable TV network Showtime," Palle said. "I am suing or will sue Kessler, Sauerland and Showtime. I will pursue my breach of contract and other legal claims against all of these parties and some others who have interfered with my existing and ongoing exclusive promotional contact with the WBA super middleweight champion.

"Showtime's Ken Hershman never called me about putting Kessler into the Super Six tournament that Showtime and other [European] networks are financing. Clearly, Hershman and Showtime purposely and knowingly interfered with my promotional contract when Sauerland got together with them."

Palle claims Kessler signed a three-fight extension with him but ran out on him without honoring their deal.

"It is all written down in the contract that I have the exclusive right to promote three more Kessler bouts," Palle said. "Obviously, those rights are extremely valuable. But I am going to fight Kessler, Sauerland, Showtime and any others involved in such contractual interference in every court and in every country I need to. It's not only about money; it's also about principle."

Not that it wasn't seen from a mile away for a problem to stir up for the Super Six tourney, but... shit!

Bad Left Hook Daniel Jacobs to face Ishe Smith on August 22nd!

Jacobsespinoza_hogan-1sm_medium

via i705.photobucket.com

Not sure if this has been posted, but Fightnews is reporting that "The Golden Child" Daniel Jacobs will be facing Ishe Smith on August 22nd. This bout is also reported as an undercard for the Juan Diaz-Paulie Malignaggi main event. Unfortunately, from the HBO promotions I have not seen Jacobs as a televized fight. The HBO commercial only shows the Robert Guerrero-Malcolm Klassen and the Diaz-Malignaggi fights. If that is the case, I sure hope Espn or VS or some one televises the Jacobs-Smith bout.

Daniel Jacobs is 17-0 with 15 kos, while Ishe Smith is 21-3 with 9 kos. Smith is not much of a big puncher or a push over; nonetheless, he can take a punch. However, Smith does tend to leave himself open most of the time so let's see how that can be come a factor for Jacobs. Personally, I think this would be an excellent test for Jacobs.

To care or not to care for the WBO Welterweight Belt? That is the question...

Filipino boxing hero and world pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao has insisted that his "Fire Power" showdown with Miguel Cotto on November 14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas be for Cotto’s welterweight title and Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says he "has no problem with that, let’s have it done." continue

Bad Left Hook Soto-Valero to Undercard Paquiao-Cotto?!!

Valerp_medium

via i705.photobucket.com

Fightnews has reported the posibility of WBC Superfeather weight Champion Humberto Soto to go up in weight and challenge Edwin Valero for the WBC lightweight title. The headliner alone is a immense clash and a must buy PPV for all. If this gets added to the plate it will be perhaps three times as great.

Well all know how things are hyped by TOP RANK (specially with the title no one cares about), but if this does come true they will have a great event on their hands and not just a Pacquiao-Cotto event. I hope it all goes well.

Marco Antonio Nazareth dies of brain hemorrhage

ESPN Boxing has reported that Marco Antonio Nazareth has passed away. I wish the family all the best. May he rest in peace...

From ESPN:

MEXICO CITY -- Mexican junior welterweight Marco Antonio Nazareth has died at a hospital in Puerto Vallarta, four days after sustaining a brain hemorrhage in a loss to Omar Chavez.

The 23-year-old Nazareth was hospitalized after the fight, in which Nazareth was knocked down in the first round and knocked out in the fourth.

Nazareth underwent surgery after the fight, but his condition steadily worsened. His professional record was four victories -- three by knockout -- and four losses.

The undefeated Chavez is the son of former champion Julio Cesar Chavez.

Pacquiao/Cotto on hold, Indefinitely!

This piece of info comes from eastsideboxing.com.

Note: I do not trust these guys but here's the info.

According to Franklin "Jeng" Gacal, Manny Pacquiao's lawyer, the pound for pound recognized best fighter in the world is now considering getting it on with Sugar Shane Mosley instead of Miguel Cotto. This news comes as a major shock to the boxing world given the relative ease putting the fight together was anticipated to be. Both fighters are promoted by Top Rank. Both fighters want to face each other. Easy right?

Not so fast.

Pacquiao wanted multiple concessions made by any future opponent and Cotto, and the world, knew this going into negotiations. Back in June Arum felt the contract was all but signed with only a few loose ends needing to be tied up. That is definitely not the case today..

What's the problem?

Reportedly Pacquiao wants the fight at 143 pounds. Cotto is only willing to go down as far as 145. A separation of two pounds. Not a lot but two pounds may prove to be a world apart for these two superstar fighters and effectively end negotiations. Thus a Pacquiao Cotto matchup is indefinitely on hold while Top Rank's head honcho, Bob Arum, vacations in Europe.

According to Philstar.com, "We will not agree to 145 pounds. And if Cotto insists, we’ll go for Mosley," said Gacal from Davao City. Cotto's camp isn't talking about the bout with Pacquiao any longer and Pacquiao's camp is now talking about Mosley. Strange events indeed. All of this comes on the heels of Mosley definitively accepting that he was not going to secure his coveted mega-fight with Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather Junior and had turned his attention to other foe namely WBC champ Andre Berto. Also being considered is Kermit Cintron.

Arum, who admitted in January that he un-pocketed some of his personal cash to Pacquiao to secure a bout with Hatton, may again have to dig deep into his wallet. This time though it might be Cotto who is on the receiving end. Stay tuned.
