Boycotting the NFL Combine?

8

It doesn't seem likely but sources say that it's definitely on the table. From the article: "I’m all for getting those contracts for the top six to 10 players under control; we all see that it’s a problem," one prominent agent said. "But what the league is talking about, it’s criminal. Five years and a flat amount? For a lot of guys that’s their whole career. We all get it, [disappointing] guys like JaMarcus Russell(notes), Aaron Maybin(notes) or even Matt Stafford getting hurt, there’s a lot of risk for the clubs.

Phil Dawson's final game with Browns?

52

More Grossi anyone? No? Ok then, I don't blame you. In all seriousness, some of the quotes from Phil himself are pretty interesting, and almost a little depressing if you've been a fan of Dawson for all these years. I'd really hate to see him go, especially with some of the kicking troubles other teams have been dealing with.

I think the powers to be at SBN need to rethink the width of the comment sections, and possible the articles. It takes virtually no time at all for a popular post's comment section to be absolutely flooded. The amount of comments isn't the problem though, it's the terrible way that comments are threaded along with the given width. Within a day or two, threads are basically impossible to navigate with out pressing the up button consistently. Look at the picture above, there is a lot of wasted space and 3/4ths of the section is 2 inches in width.

It's not exactly Browns related, but I found this video awesome, funny, and kind of catchy.

DBN Shoops (Week 8) Issue #2 Welcome to DBN Shoops (Week 8)! Just a quick reminder, DBN Shoops is a new weekly fanshot Photoshop contest. Click HERE if you don't remember how it works. This week I decided to due a few different edits: Brett Keisel's Injury Struggles - | - Original (Photo by Karl Walter) Mike Tomlin Hates Kittens - | - Original (Photo by Matthew Sharpe) Hines Ward vs. Karma - | - Original (Photo by Matthew Sharpe) We want to see as many entries as we can, so if you have a really good idea for a different picture, we'll allow other photos to be edited as well, as long as they are from Week 8. Still, using the photos above is highly encouraged. This weeks contest will end when Issue #3 is posted for Week 9. Also, you don't have to enter to vote! Check out the shoops throughout the week and vote for (rec) your favorites! Congrats to last weeks winners: Stdavis9210 & Kid Kardiac < Last Week (#1) | Next Week (#3) >

Tony Romo breaks collarbone

12
"The Cowboys haven't given a prognosis at this point, but those injuries typically keep players out for 4-6 weeks." I posted this here because it will likely have major fantasy football implications. Not only is Romo out, but with Kitna in, and playing as bad as he always does, this also really kills the stock of players such as Miles Austin, Jason Witten, Roy Williams, and Dez Bryant. Owners of those players should pay close attention. I'm not saying those guys are worthless, but they definitely took a huge hit for the worse tonight.

DBN Shoops (Week 7) Issue #1 Welcome to DBN Shoops (Week 7)! Just a quick introduction, DBN Shoops is a new weekly fanshot Photoshop contest. Here's how it will work: shortly after the the NFL games, I'll fanshot my edit, as seen above, of a photo picked from the previous weeks games. I'll also link to the original below. Then anyone in the community can make their own edit, upload it, and post it as a comment here. The one with the most recs will be the winner for that week. At the end of the season I'll tally up who had the most wins and whip them up a nice shiny trophy, in photoshop! You can use whatever program you'd like, even MSpaint. Entries can be humorous or just awesome, but be sure to keep it all work safe. Here is this weeks photo (original): Our very own, David Bowens on his way to his second interception returned for a touchdown. (Photo by Chris Graythen/Getty Images) Since it's the first issue, and we want to see as many entries as we can, if you have a really good idea for a different picture, we'll allow other photos to be edited as well, as long as they are from Week 7. Still, using the Bowens photo above is highly encouraged. This weeks contest will end when Issue #2 is posted for Week 8. Lastly, I'll include a breakdown of my "shoop" in a comment below if you're curious as to what I did. < Last Week (#?) | Next Week (#2) >

Unofficial DBN Fan League: LIVE Draft

36

This is just a friendly reminder to those of you participating in the Unofficial DBN Fan League for fantasy football, that the live draft will be held at 9 pm Eastern time tomorrow, Sunday August 22nd. It's all done online, through Yahoo! Sports. If for whatever reason you're unable to make it, please adjust your pre-draft rankings accordingly. However, the auto-picker is not very good (i.e. it doesn't factor in need or value very well), so I urge everyone to attend.

Just in case the Cleveland fans needed one more reason to hate the Celtics, bench riding guard, Nate Robinson just gave it to us: He said this of the city of Cleveland via his twitter: "Sup y'all in Cleveland chill at the hotel what is thurr 2do in this dry city?" "Rondo said Cleveland is the worst dressed city in the nation! People can’t dress in Cleveland I agree!!! #wordaapp" "Dnt be mad if a city can’t dress a city can’t dress ? It’s all love rondo was just play n it was a inside joke! He was thinking it I said it" If you don't remember the name, as Robinson has descended into the obscurity that is the Celtic's bench, he was formally known as "that short guy who dunks."

Browns' 2010 NFL Draft: YouTube Reels

NFL passes player safety rules

11

The league's "best" blocking receiver lost his arsenal. "The key rules change for player safety bars a defenseless player from being hit in the head or neck area by an opponent who launches himself and uses his helmet, shoulder or forearm to make contact. Previously, those kind of tackles were banned against receivers who couldn’t protect themselves, but now it will apply to everyone." Sorry Hines, you're blocking on a level playing field now.

Shaun Rogers on the trading block?

2

Aaron Wilson: "Prior to and since free agency began, we’ve heard rumors from NFL sources that Cleveland Browns nose guard Shaun "Big Baby" Rogers is quietly being shopped around the league." Personally, I don't think there is much to this and would be disappointed getting anything less than a good second round pick for Rogers, which seems unlikely.

Eagles release Brian Westbrook

3

I guess it's a bad time to be a 31 year old former All-Pro running back. First LT, now the Philadelphia Eagles are releasing Brian Westbrook, after 8 seasons.

Browns, Lions stand alone in NFL futility

Jim Ingraham reminds us of some cold sad truths... When a team goes 44 years without making it to The Big Dance, that is institutional ineptitude of epic, historic, pathetic proportions. Bring a box of Kleenex's folks.

Notre Dame fires HC Charlie Weis

NYDailyNews.com: Charlie Weis is out as Notre Dame head football coach, a source close to the program told the Daily News. Interestingly enough, they have a poll asking whether you would hire Weis as an offensive coordinator. Currently the results say 52% yes.

Vick to Philadelphia

At August 13, 2009, 8:34 PM ET, ESPN reported that Michael Vick has signed a two-year deal with the Eagles.

Braylon Edwards returns to the field

+
TOM WITHERS, AP Sports Writer "BEREA, Ohio (AP)—Browns wide receiver Braylon Edwards(notes) was in full pads and back on the practice field after missing Cleveland’s first four days of training camp with an undisclosed injury. Edwards was given medical clearance by the Browns’ training staff and rejoined his teammates for Wednesday’s morning workout. The four-year veteran had been limited to riding a stationary bike, agility drills and light running because of an apparent leg injury that Browns coach Eric Mangini has been keeping under wraps. Edwards also missed Cleveland’s mini-camp last month with an injury."
