Minor League Ball Colorado Rockies MOD I - Draft History

In 2005, GM Dan O'Dowd selected Troy Tulowitzki, some SS out of Long Beach State with the 7th overall pick in the first round. That worked out fairly well. And then, in the years following...

Ugh.

Purple Row Should the Rockies volunteer to switch leagues?

Somehow, it's just come to my attention that MLB is leaning hard on the potential buyer of the Astros to jump into the AL West - I'd heard there were suggestions and proposals but didn't know there was some actual pressure.

I'm sure this has been discussed before and I may have even taken part but i wonder if this is a good time for us to raise our hands now and volunteer to make the move.  I figure the AL West is a bit more winnable (Texas excepted) then the NL West and we've had some recent success in interleague play (over .500 the past three seasons).  I'm a little afraid of Arizona's future rotation and would like my two favourite teams (that other one would be the ahem, Padres) to play in separate leagues.  Those Red Sox/Yankees series always sell out and we play well against those two powerhouses.  I'm 50/50 on the whole DH thing but think it may justify Giambi since we're keeping him around, anyway.  Plus maybe we could sucker MLB to hand us a sackful of cash to make the move.

I dunno, my first thought was always to move us into a four-team NL division with the Cubs, Cards, and Brewers but now I'm kind of liking the idea of us in the AL West.  Any other takers or am I on a one-man island?

Purple Row Yonder Alonso...

The bell tolls for the Toddfather and a replacement is not near at hand.  So, it's no secret I'm a fan of Yonder Alonso but I wondered what it might take to pry him lose from Cincinnati so I did a fanpost at Red Reporter.  'Twas interesting:

Fanpost at Red Reporter

They could be looking for what we have.  I was kind of expecting the usual "Gimme Chacin, Matzek, Rosario, and Alanna" sort of response but instead the Reds fans seemed pretty reasonable.  Take a look and see what we may want to give up to get a (in my opinion) great Todd Helton replacement, who is blocked by young MVP Joey Votto.

Red Reporter Yonder Alonso...

Hello, Rockies fan here with a quick question about Alonso.  Congrats to the Reds for making the playoffs and for Joey V winning MVP.  Now that question:  What are the Reds plans for Alonso?  Is he available and what is the likely price?  The reason I ask is that Todd Helton (local hero and legend) is about to ride off into the sunset and the Rockies do not really have an heir apparent anywhere near ready.  I personally, and many other Rox fans would love to take him off your hands if he's blocked by Votto.  My impression is yours is a young team without a lot of holes.   So, is a trade do-able d'ya think and what'll it take (hypothetically) to put a deal together?  Thanks for your time.
