Hogs Haven JC and Rogers Only Net Us 2nd Rd Picks as Comp

Because of the upgraded tenders we gave to Golston and Doughty, the original round tenders we gave to Campbell and Rogers will not actually get us 1st round picks for them.  The compensation is reduced by one round.  Therefore, if another team decides to sign one of them the Redskins will only get a second round pick as compensation.  This makes no sense to me.  The monetary difference between the original round tender and the first round tender is so small that's it's crazy to give up any leverage for trades to save that money.

For an explanation of why we'd only get 2nd rounders, see here

Hogs Haven The evolution of the center position

As more and more teams move to a 3-4, the nose tackle has become a premier position on defense.  I suggest that the logical response by offenses is to improve the center position.  Would it be so crazy for a team to draft Mike Iupati and move him to center?

The primary weakness of the 3-4 defense is run defense up the middle.  Because the defense is outnumbered in the middle, the NT needs to be able to occupy two blockers to allow the linebackers to make a play on the running back.  3-4 teams that have such a NT are successful, and those that don't struggle.  It seems as if a logical response would be for an offense to target a center who can handle these big NTs one-on-one.  That would provide a dramatic advantage, allowing guards to move to the second level.  Yet, centers around the league are still the smallest, least-paid players on the line.  So, I repeat the question: why doesn't a team draft a nasty guard and move him to center?
