Daily Norseman Dear Fred Pagac and Joe Woods,

Please sign Brandon Merriweather. Yes, he's had some off the field issues but for the sake of your dignity and the dignity of the fan base we need to look past that. You can't put together a competitive defense with our current secondary. Merriweather would change that and is an instant upgrade at strong safety. Honestly, our secondary has to be the joke of the league. Yes we have Winfield, who is arguably one of the best cornerbacks in the league but he can only do much. Cedric Grifffin has also played well in the past but he's coming off two major knee surgeries and nobody is nearly as fast or explosive after having a knee surgery. It doesn't matter how in shape or athletic someone is or if they have the worlds best doctor. Those knees will never be the same. Just ask anyone who has every had a ACL or MCL injury. From there our secondary only gets worse.

I won't throw Chris Cook to the wolves because of his injury history(see Cedric Griffin) but he really needs to step it up this year. We are going to get burned bad by any team that has three or more decent wide receivers(See Green Bay Packers Roster). Asher Allen was once a young promising player be he hasn't done anything to show he is worthy of a roster spot.

Anyway back to that strong safety position. It has to be a joke that you are even considering letting Tyrell Johnson start at strong safety. You are just pulling a fast one on us right? I hope so. Brandon Merriweather is a legitimate strong safety unlike any possible player we have on our team. Merriweather's three interceptions last year are more then Tyrell Johnson and Jamarca Sanford's career interceptions combined. They have two interceptions between them in their careers in case you were wondering. Merriweather has seen the pro bowl twice something that neither of those two will ever see unless one of their teammates lets them tag along some year. I'm not a fortune teller but come back in 10 years and I'm sure I'll be right. Yes, Merriweather has seen is fair share of off the field issues and can't seem to stay away from guns but everyone likes a comeback story. Plus Leslie Frazier comes from the "Tony Dungy School for coaches who can't coach well and want to do other stuff good too", so I'm sure some of Dungy's calming Zen rubbed off on Frazier. He could be the guy to get Merriweather back to pro bowl form. Hell, maybe Frazier could make a call to his old pal to get him to talk to Merriweather. Dungy seems to have a way with players.

I guess what I'm trying to get at Fred and Joe is that, Wait I can call you guys that right? What I'm trying to get at is that as Vikings fans we've suffered long enough with scrubs in our secondary. Can you please just get us some help?

Sincerely,

A concerned Vikings fan.

Canis Hoopus Nikola Pekovic

I'm just wondering what the overall opinion of Nikola Pekovic is? Do you think he has what it takes to be the starting center for the Timberwolves? I watched a lot of games last year and I honestly thought that Nikola Pekovic looked good and like he had potential to put it all together. He has some really nice inside moves and put in a few really good games. On the other hand there were some times when he was really bad. I think if Pekovic can fully transition to the NBA style of play and stop getting three second violations and fouls we could have at the least a viable backup center to log some minutes.

Canis Hoopus When did you start running with the pack?

Over at Daily Norseman they started a similar topic where we discussed when and how we became Vikings fans. I figured since it is the offseason and the Wolvesare also locked out it might be fun to bring the same question over here. So I ask when did you become a Timberwolves fan?

For me it was back in the Garnett/Gugliotta era.I wasn't ever a huge basketball fan to begin with but my brother and my dad really loved watching the Timberwolves. They would always have the games on and I would end up watching with them. I fondly recall the wolves announcers screaming "TOM GUGGGGLYUGGLIOTTA BABBY!" every time he would make a great play. A few years later I moved away to Wisconsin for college and never watched any Wolves games but would follow them still. Moved back home to the Twin Cities about two years ago now and will be going on my second year as a season ticket holder. My seats are up in nose bleed but well worth the money.  Really excited for Rubio to finally get over here!

Daily Norseman Brett Favre living the good life

Well, it looks like Brett Favre is living the good life. A friend was recently on vacation and posted some pictures of Brett Favre and his family at a wedding on the beach. Since it's pretty slow here I decided to share the pictures with you guys.

Not sure if it's just the wind or if Favre got fat.

Hope you guys enjoy a slice of Favre's life. I guess the wedding was for a family friend who their daughter use to babysit for. At least that was the rumor that my friends heard while on vacation.

Daily Norseman Vikings who Twitter

I was bored last night and was looking at my twitter account. I normally don't tweet or anything like that but I thought I would send out a few tweets last night to a few Vikings players in hope they would "retweet" what I wrote. Here's what I wrote and what Brian Robison and Kyle Rudolph retweeted.

" can we get a RT for the fans over at dailynorseman.com? We can't wait to see you start along side JA this year.

" can we get a RT for the fans over at dailynorseman.com? We love the pick and can't wait to see you catching passes from ponder."   http://twitter.com/#!/krudy9

Just kind of interesting to know that players are on there watching and listening what fans have to say. In this new era of technology it's so much easier to have player and fan interaction.

Looks like Ray Edwards won his fight against the kick boxer last night. Next up Kimbo Slice? Hopefully.

According to a few sources the Rams have interest in Sidney Rice, although I'm sure a lot of teams have an eye on him.

Canis Hoopus Mike Beasley discontent with Rambis?

It seems like Mike Beasley might not be enjoying his tenure with coach Rambis. Earlier today someone on twitter wrote "I sure wish coach would just let @RealMIkebeasley play his game!" @RealMikebeasley is the official twitter account of Mike Beasley. Later that day Mike Beasley retweeted her message, or he rewrote what she said on his webpage for anyone not hip with the twitter lingo. His twitter account has since been deleted. Read into what you want. I think it's interesting.

Daily Norseman Amobi Okoye

John Mcclain from the Houston Chronicle is reporting that Amobi Okoye's future in Houston looks like it's going to be slim to none and he might not even make the team since they are switching to a 3-4 defense. How would you guys feel about bringing him in to replace Pat Williams? Even though he's already in his 5th season Okoye is still really young. He's only 23 years old. He was great in college and hasn't been spectacular in the pros. He definitely hasn't lived up to his hype but he'd be a interesting prospect to take a look at.  Maybe he could learn a thing or two with a change of scenery and playing beside one of the best DT in the league.

Daily Norseman Sidney who?: A Possible Answer to our pending WR problem.

Well, It was just announced today that Minnesota's own Michael Floyd has been suspended indefinitely by The Notre Dame football program for getting his second alcohol related offense. How does this have anything to do with the Vikings? The Rumor floating around is that Floyd might be going into the supplemental draft this year. If we lose Sidney Rice to free agency or even if we don't lose Rice it would be worth to take a second or third round flyer on Floyd in the supplemental draft. He's a first round talent and would look great in purple.

Daily Norseman Jackson to IR, If Farve's not ready who gets the nod?

Profootballtalk.com is reporting that Tarvaris Jackson is heading to IR today. I've always been a supporter of Tarvaris Jackson but I feel like this signals his time here in Minnesota. The guy is made of glass he must be related to Matthew Stafford somehow. So if Farve isn't healthy enough to play are we going to get what most of you guys have been clamoring about? I'm not huge on Joe Webb but I guess I'd rather seem him out there instead of Patrick Ramsey at this point. So Who's getting the nod this week?

Daily Norseman Kenny Onatolu Q&A

Hey Guys,

In a few days I'm going to get the privilege to speak with Kenny Onatolu and was wondering if any of the Norseman faithful had any questions for him? He agreed to spend a few minutes chatting about the season, his career, and what the future holds for him and the Vikings. If you have any questions that you want answered or anything like that shoot me a reply and I'll see what I can do. I'll post the interview in the next week or so for everyone to see.

Canis Hoopus Season Ticket Holders

Are there any current season ticket holders or people who have had tickets in the past? My friends and I just bought season tickets today and I was wondering if there were any really good perks for their season ticket holders? I read what they showed on the website but didn't know if there were really any others. Were you also able to easily move down after a quarter or so? I'm assuming you would be able to since well we're the Twolves.

Daily Norseman Vikings sign Ryan Moats

The vikings just signed former Texans running back Ryan Moats today. Although this doesn't mean too much he will be a nice addition to the back field. He's only 27 and ran for a career high 390 yards and 4 touchdowns last year behind Steve Slaton. Most likely won't beat out Toby Gerhart for the second spot but will add some competition.

Daily Norseman OJ Atogwe

Take it with a grain of salt since it was posted by Adam Schefter but he reports on his twitter that the vikings might be interested in safety Oj Atogwe formerly of the Rams. Depending on how much he wants it might not be a bad move to pick him up since our safety play was sub par last season.

Daily Norseman Tony Washington?

What about Tony Washington the tackle from Abilene Christian? This is another one of those undrafted guys that the Vikings should give a shot too. Off the field issues again but he seems to have put that past him. He was rated as a second round talent after a great combine but went undrafted. I think he might be able to compete for a roster spot right away.

Daily Norseman Ryan Perrilloux

It looks like the Vikings just signed Quarterback Ryan Perrilloux out of Jacksonville State. This guy was a stud coming out of high school and originally played for LSU however he ran into some off field issues. It will be interesting to see if this guy could get his act together and play in the NFL

Daily Norseman 49ers Sign Paymah

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2010/03/17/sports/s145115D41.DTL&type=49ers

Looks like Karl Paymah signed a one year deal today with the 49ers. Although this wasn't a shock since we didn't tender him at all. It does open up another roster spot which is nice since he was below average at everything he did. Any one have any ideas on who we might draft this year? I'm still unsure of what we are going to do.

Daily Norseman we all knew

We all knew it had to happen sometime. Hopefully after watching tapes of this game it will light a fire under are asses for next week. Just a few ramblings from me about the game..

1.) Where was our discipline during the game? Way too many penalties.

2.) As much as I enjoy Farve as the QB he shouldn't be throwing the ball 51 times.

3.) I know chester is the better catching the ball out of the backfield but when we are in the 2 minute drill I just don't think you can take AD out of the game. He's too special.

Daily Norseman Rhett Bomar

What does everyone think about Rhett Bomar? He was the #1 rated high school prospect at QB in 2004 and signed with Oklahoma State. He red-shirted his freshmen year and then started the next year as Oklahoma State's starting QB. He eventually was dismissed from the team for violating NCAA rules and he transfered to Sam Houston State where he continued to do very well. He's projected as a pick in the late round and his potential upside I think would be worth the risk of a late round pick. Here's his stats from his college days and his scounting reports. What do you guys think?
