Frank gets printed!
Our own FrankG929 gets his picture in Yahoo! Jersey Fouls with a 'Rangersukov' jersey foul. Well done Frank!
Pandolfo signs with Islanders
Looks like The Island will be where Devils are cast away to. NHL does not disclose how much he signed for.
Capgeek however, shows that Pandolfo signed a one-year deal for $570,000.
Pelley or Fraser next?
Weber is awarded $7.5M in Arbitration
Weber's side was looking for $8.5M, while the Preds were offering $4.75M. Big win for Shea.
Colin White signs with the San Jose Sharks
We knew that wouldn't take long. Good Luck Colie!
Trenton Titans Return - Sadly, Flyers have their ECHL team back
So long to the notion of getting more grassroots Devils fans in West and South Jersey with the ECHL team being Philly prospects once again. Argh.
Dubinsky and Rangers going thru Arbitration
Sounds like Dubinsky seems a bit slighted over the contract Brad Richards got. To be asking over $5M seems a bit nuts to me. Also, Zajac is very likely to be used as a comparable, when to me, they have different roles (1C for TZ, clear 2C for BD).
Does this make anyone else slightly happy at the potential damage this can do to the Rangers and their relationship with Dubinsky? Sound off.
Guy Carbonneau our new Coach?
The timing sure does make some sense, as Carbonneau has just stepped down as GM-Coach of his QMJHL club. Hrmn... I will take this one as very likely.
Corvo to Boston for 4th Round Pick
Now that we have dissected the deal Andy Greene struck with the Devils (4 years, $12M), with the debate being if Greene was overpaid (money and term) for his services, seeing this deal may further fuel the fire. Granted, Andy Greene didn't cost us any assets, but would you have made this trade for Corvo and allowed Greene to move on?
Kopecky follows Campbell to Florida
Not all that surprising that Kopecky won't be re-signed, but who replaces him in the lineup?
Varlamov to become UFA?
Well, I don't know about you, but I would be a happy camper picking Semyon up as a backup (and as a potential replacement) as this articles states he may become a UFA. Coming from Chesnokov,I do not know how substantiated this is, but it would make sense that the Capitals would find it prudent to allow Neuvirth and Holtby to battle it out in the Washington crease. Semyon is currently an RFA coming off of a $821,667 contract. Would you like to see the Devils sign a potential UFA in Varlamov to back up Brodeur? Is this feasible? Thoughts?
UPDATE: As Triumph had gleaned when this post went up, Varlamov has indeed bolted for the KHL
Richards to LA for Simmonds, Schenn
The Carter move earlier today was expected. This trade comes out of left field. WOW
Salary Cap at $64 Million
Without a direct source quoted, a grain of salt. But, a $64M Cap would certainly help New Jersey keep 'Captain Zach' in the fold while perhaps signing or replacing Mr Greene. Good News Everyone! (in my best Professor Farnsworth voice).
Richards will NOT be a Star
Well, one less suitor for Richards' services. Biggest name in the UFA market, let's hope the price is insanely high as to handicap the team that gets him *cough* Rangers/Leafs.
Rafalski Retiring?
I would hate for this to be just a rumor, but it is not like TSN to publish such things without any merit. Who saw that coming?
Parise to start Skating again
Well, good news either way you look at it. If we need him for the stretch run, he may be ready. If we want to make sure his knee is 'together' before contract talk, he may be ready.
Rozsival to Phoenix
Seems like a strange trade to me. NewYork should be happy to get something back. Surprisingly, Wolski makes a good amount of coin.
Zubrus Waived?
I cannot confirm this with a source other than this one from SportsNet, but it makes all too much sense not to at least take it as a serious possibility that it is in fact, true.
Pronger deal OK'd
Anyone else have a problem with the possible politics and timing of this? Hrmn, Ed Snider (proud member of the Old Boys Club) and Media Giant Comcast and parent company for the Flyers. Seems to me the NHL does not want to upset those two entities.
The timing bothers me because if the reason for this 2-day delay is to work out an agreement between the NHL and the PA regarding future long-term or possible Cap-circumventing contracts, why doesn't the Pronger deal fit into the mix?
Not to mention, it seems the Savard contract (and the Jacobs in Boston) are no longer mentioned in the possible Cap-circumvention deals. Ugh. Sound off!
Niemi to join the Sharks
So, the talk of GM Doug Wilson being unable to 'afford' Nabokov kind of goes out the window here, does it not? I don't know, something tells me Nabby would have taken a $4M contract to stay in the NHL.
Yahoo! takes Fischer's story and runs with it
Wysh has his own take on what John Fischer and Bill Daly had a little chat about. Not much new, but nice to see
NHL Europe Schedule
Wow, even more games to begin the season. Do you guys think we should have more or less (or none) games in Europe? Do they serve the purpose of expanding the game internationally?
Selanne signs
I know how accomplished Teemu is, but I am surprised by the amount. CapGeek shows his number without any bonuses.
Kovy has choice of team in KHL
Wow, so the President of the KHL says Kovalchuk has carte blanche. Amazing, just another issue to deal with.
NHLPA Grievance Day
Will the NHLPA file a grievance? Will the Devils re-structure the contract? Will Kovalchuk re-sign even if the current contract is voided?
Keep your F5 buttons ready, and hope that all sides can come to an amicable solution.
Gagne shopping himself
So, does this news slow down the 'Kovy to LA' rumours some more, being that LW Gagne would be a much cheaper option for LA?
Either way, interesting to see where he would land and what Philly could get in return.
Chicago matches Hjalmarsson offer
Wow, I am surprised by this and wonder what it means for Niemi and what it will mean to Chicago being able to keep any other RFA's or actually make it under the Cap before the Season starts.
The reporter in this case works for the Chicago Sun-Times.
Hjalmarsson headed to SJ?
While this may not effect the Devils directly, with a substantial offer sheet being tendered to an RFA, it puts the entire League on notice.
Does Chicago match or take the picks?
Colaiacovo re-signs with St Louis
I know Carlo was on our short list of potential acquisitions.
Probert passes away
Sad, sad day.
