Found this post that has an interesting premise as to why The Warriors consistently suck.  It's definitely not mainstream, but it at least has some perspective as to why GS seems to be consistently cursed.  There's also another post on the site that makes the corrolary between the end of Yankee Stadium and the fall of the american empire.  I wonder if that due to the economic woes about to hit, if Cohan wants to offload the team to the four Silicon Valley guys that have a 20% stake in the team.
