Grantland examines the Astros rebuilding project
Jonah Keri looks at our front office hires and the growing pains to come as we try and restock the bare cupboard that is our farm system.
Grantland looks at the ZBS, and our formula for success
Pretty interesting. I know it's been covered here previously, but it's still cool to see it explained in depth. A little optimism never hurt, either.

Kissing Suzy Kolber on the state of the Houston Chimera
I do love getting media attention (is KSK media?) even in these bad circumstances. This is pretty fucking hilarious. I'm not sure if you guys remember the first time KSK dubbed our team the Chimera here
But they're at it again, with equally fucking hilarious results. Here. If this doesn't make you feel at least a little better, than you must not believe in the healing power of laughter, and thus I weep for you.
Ps: Sorry if this has already been posted, but I didn't see it in the fan posts, and I'm equally sorry if it should be a fanshot, but whatever.
Go Texans!

Texans Trade for Derrick Mason
First saw it on Ben Tate's Facebook page. Then I googled it and saw this:
http://www.myfoxhouston.com/dpp/sports/nfl/11011-texans-trade-for-derrick-mason
What are y'all's thoughts? Good? Bad? Does it depend on the draft pick? Is it nice to have someone to get Jacoby off the field? I haven't seen him this year, but I'm okay with it honestly. Mason is a good player. Worth the risk.
Veteran Possibilities for CB2
I know the consensus seems to be that the Texans are going to opt to stand pat and let Jason Allen/Kareem be our CB2 going into the year, but do you think there are any other possible cheap veteran options on the market? If so, would you rather let Kareem try and develop into something since we can assume he'll be at least better than last year. I was reading that Marcus Trufant might be released by the Seahawks based on cap reasons. He's been injured some (and he's 30), but don't you think he would be worlds better than Allen/KJax? Just a thought I was having. Oh, and speaking of other Seahawks, they just released Lofa Tatupu. If he was willing, would you all be interested in signing him as Demeco insurance? I'm guessing the price will be wrong, but still.
Sorry that was a solid paragraph without spaces.
KSK Presents: Our New D-Coordinator!!!
I guess this should be a fanshot, but I've always preferred fanposts. For those who aren't aware, Wade Phillips has been a recurring character on the NFL humor site Kissing Suzy Kolber pretty much for the entire time he was in Dallas. They said this will probably be the last of his appearances on the site, but I'm guessing we'll see him again in Steel Blue. Without further ado, here is the last of Wade and Jerry!

Nash to Rockets Rumor
Hey so, I saw this on ESPN and was immediately intrigued. I'd make it a fanshot, but it's an insider thing.
http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/insider/news/story?id=5991448
One league source pointed to Houston as the team the Suns should keep on speed dial in the event that Nash wants out, since they have a bundle of assets that could hit the reset button for a rebuilding team. The Rockets can flaunt Yao Ming's expiring deal (with half the salary picked up by insurance), a 2011 first-rounder, the league's reigning Most Improved Player Aaron Brooks and another expiring deal in Jared Jeffries or Shane Battier. If the Suns' front office wants to save money, unload some contracts and build for the future, the Rockets need to be on their list of suitors. Replacing Brooks with Nash would instantly turn Houston into one of the NBA's most efficient and high-octane offenses. With Kevin Martin, Battier and Brad Miller, the Rockets already have a three-point arsenal to rival that of any other team in the league. And don't let the record fool you: Houston's point differential suggests that even though the standings say it's 16-18, it's more like an 18-16 squad.
I don't know about you all, but I have to say I think this would be pretty incredible. As much as I hate to admit it, the Rockets don't win with defense, we just don't. With that in mind, why wouldn't we be interested in bringing probably the best all around offensive point guard of the last decade? Let's say, theoretically, that we do the deal. I don't think it would negatively affect our chemistry too much, and I think that having Lowry to keep Nash from getting worn down would be a huge difference for him when it came to the playoff run. I don't know, I just think it's interesting. What do you all think?
Atogwe officially a free agent
I hope this hasn't already been posted. I just saw it on ESPN. As opposed to my earlier posting about Mawae, this would be a signing that makes total sense. It would be a coup of a signing. Atogwe would be a fantastic signing, and would in my mind, help solidify our secondary to a respectable level. Combining his skills at FS with Pollard seems like a no brainer. Get it done, Rick!

Should the Texans be interested in Kevin Mawae?
Now look, I know just as well as everyone else, that Kevin Mawae has a lot of negatives. Namely, he is a former BE-SF and has been called a dirty player before. I think I've also heard that he is just kind of a dick in general.
However, putting those character flaws aside for a second, do you think that the Texans should have some interest in Mawae? I know he is old (39), but I'm pretty sure he was a probowler last year, and he played all 16 games, so he doesn't appear to be breaking down yet. So far, according to an ESPN article I was reading, no one has really given him an offer, so we could probably sign him on the cheap. Isn't the chance to replace Ragdoll with a vaguely competent, not going to get eaten alive by NT worth giving Mawae a look? Am I crazy? Opinions please.
Faneca?
So, I was perusing ESPN when I saw this:
And I immediately thought about the possibilities of us signing him. Now, I know that Faneca is old (32) but I don't think he is washed up yet, in fact I could see him having 1-3 good years left in him. Those years start to look especially attractive when compared to the guard play we saw last year. If it's true that the Jets are going to cut him, then that means that we don't have to worry about his big salary, and can probably convince him to sign a more reasonable deal. I had heard a few people bring this up in different draft threads, and I think that this would be a great signing. Based on that article, it doesn't seem like Faneca had a bad year, he is just slightly older, and slightly more expensive than the Jets want. So, what say you Battle Red Nation, since the Texans didn't really address the interior line in the draft, do you think we should go after Alan Faneca?
Texans On KSK: OD + Book of Mythology = Hilarity
I was browsing Kissing Suzy Kolber today, and I came across this funny bit about the Texans. I'm sort of honored that we're being joked about by KSK. As far as I know we've never gotten an entire post there for ourselves that wasn't about us completely sucking. It's not national recognition, but I'll take it none the less.
Laughter is the best way to deal with grief, so cheers to you OD, you snake dick you! Seriously, I'd enjoy it if that nickname caught on.

Steve McNair Found Dead
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4306275
McNair, 36, suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head in downtown Nashville, police spokesperson Don Aaron said.
One of my favorite players of all time. One of the few classy members of the Titans. It's too bad his time in Houston was short, but in the years after the move, he was one of the reasons I could convince myself to watch the Titans. He deserved a Super Bowl ring.
RIP Steve.
McShay and Kiper
Is it just me or do they just not know much about football? I think McShay is worse than Kiper personally, but they both kinda suck. McShay's latest mock has us taking Robert Ayers at 15. Most places I've read have him as a very late 1st rounder or very early 2nd. McShay doesn't even mention that we would probably trade down if we wanted Ayers. He makes this pick even though Matthews is still on the board and I'm pretty sure other higher rated DE were there also. Remember earlier when he had us taking Sanchez? I'm just saying, I know the draft is a crapshoot and it's hard to get inside the GMs' heads but come on. Kiper and McShay just seem really really awful to me. Maybe they always have been and I'm just now noticing, but ESPN leans on them so much (We have 2 draft experts!!!) they just seem so subpar. I know I'm isolating just a few picks, but I'm just trying to figure out how they became "experts" when they suck this bad. Kiper isn't quite as bad he gave us Cushing which at least makes more sense from value/pos of need perspective. I just wanted to see what everyone else thinks.
