VSL Pirates Opening Day Roster Released
I just have a PDF of it, so it's a little unwieldy in text form. So, instead I'll just list the names below:
Federal Baseball Takes One More Look at the Matt Capps Signing
Click here to check it out. Not to bring up the old argument again, I just thought you all might want to read about it from a Nats perspective one more time -- there' also some talk about the Pirates' motivation behind the move. Spring training can't come soon enough...
(However, beware of some of the comments because there is some Bucco bashing and a declaration that Neal Huntington is among the worst GMs in the game.)
Pedro Alvarez #1, Brad Lincoln #10, Jose Tabata #15 on BA Eastern League Prospects List
Baltimore Orioles left-hander Brian Matusz would have been number one had he qualified for the list.
Another Bucco Basher: Jay Mariotti
Not that anyone should be surprised (I'm sure not) but another sports writer is jumping onto the pile to rag on the Pirates recent transactions. According to him, the Pirates did break up the '27 Yankees and Bud Selig should force the owner to sell the team -- not to mention he should have halted the Pirates from making the trades in the first place. Well done Jay, now go sit in the corner with the rest of them, I'll tell you when your timeout is over.

Pirates Sign Two Non-Drafted Free Agents
PIRATES AGREE TO TERMS WITH TWO NON-DRAFTED FREE AGENTS
The Pittsburgh Pirates today agreed to terms with two non-drafted free agents.
Eighteen-year-old catcher Dylan Child from Australia agreed to terms with the Pirates on a 2009 con-
tract as a non-drafted free agent. The 6-foot-1, 181-pound catcher recently converted from shortstop to catcher.
Child will begin his career at the Major League Baseball Academy in Australia this year.
Sixteen-year-old right-handed pitcher Dovydas Neverauskas from Lithuania agreed to terms on a 2010
contract as a non-drafted free agent. The 6-foot-3, 170-pound righthander will begin his professional career this
fall in the Florida Instructional League program and in the 2010 Pirates minor league spring training camp.
Defense Getting Some Statistical Loving
A really interesting article about a new technology that is about to be implemented on the defensive side of things: NYTimes
I just think with all the talk about defense and the Pirates lately, this was a fascinating article to post.
I don't have much more to add, but this needs to be a bit longer, so a yada yada yada Seinfeld moment is needed:
"Well, we were engaged to be married, uh, we bought the wedding invitations, and, uh, yada yada yada, I'm still single today."
