Fire Joe Morgan Calls It Quits!
Sad day for sports blogging. FJM was consistently excellent for 4 years. Their absence will be very sore this offseason.
Timmy Wins Officially, Dugout recognizes.
there's no way matt cain is this lame.
At least he's better than barry zito.
StatCorner adds tRA breakdown
every tRA stat will include a new widget that shows exactly how that tRA was calculated.
very very very neat. The blog over there is getting pretty interesting and the website in general has gone over a very interesting and dynamic growth during the last half of the season.
also in the blog, tRA+ is asessed per rotation slot. Looks like Cain was a #1 starter the first two years until this year when he was a #2. AT BEST.
The Dugout Leaks the Winner of the Cy Young
looks like lincecum came up short.
OT: Cody Ransom Doing It!
It being playing baseball like a guy who knows how to play baseball.
Bumgarner's Minor League Splits this season
A more in-depth look at how crazy good this guy was this year.
The absolute nuttiest part is about 2/3 of the way down in the men on vs. nobody on. With men on, Bumgarner goes from a 1.11 WHIP all the way down to a .62 WHIP. That's just unbelievable. The guy absolutely stepped up his game when men were on.
What a season. he wasn't really lucky with his BABIP, although his HR/F% should jump up a little bit from 2.2%
awesomeawesomeawesome 75757575.
The Worst Season of Francisco Rodriguez's Career
It's a little shocking to find out that (though by a little margin) K-Rod is having his worst year. Even a little bit weirder is that he's losing his stuff. His velocity is way down. Some poor team is going to give this kid 45 million.
"Optioned to high Class A: 2B Travis Denker"
but Why? He was there last year and tore it up. any indications of this beforehand?
OT: Will Leitch out at Deadspin
It's the end of an era in the era of sports blogging:
Apparently, Leitch is out of the editors position at deadspin in three weeks. No matter your feelings on the site (I don't particularly care for most of their commentary though there were some truly delicious articles there on occasion), Deadspin is really a huge deal for the blog kingdom.
He's headed to be a "contributing editor at New York magazine.
What, if any, impact do you think this event has?
OT: Literary Criticism!

Open Giants black-abyss prospect possibilities diary
This is less complicated than the title.
Just for some commentary on our SS, C, 1B or any type of power hitting prospects we have.
I just want to know all of your opinions on guys like Adam Witter, Pablo Sandoval, John Bowker, D'Alessio and any other even marginal prospects that don't get a lot of play.
Pablo especially intrigues me. How far away do you think some of these kids are? What do you think we may expect from them, either next year or int he majors?
soooo Cory Koskie
is okay?
he could provide some sweet walking skills at the 3B position.
1 year for 4 mil?
there's always Russell Branyan . . .
SS for '08
This is mere speculation and underinformed opinion.
Do you think Tadahito Iguchi could adequately play shortstop for 2 maybe three years? His defense has seemed pretty alright at second in the limited time I've seen him and he's a decent enough hitter.
Does anybody differ? I'd really like to know.
a request
Giants,
I really don't ask that much. I knew this year was going to be bad. I'll never not love you, but please, for my sake could you get a couple wins this weekend? I'm not crippled nor on my deathbed; you don't have to win one for the gipper. I'm just a fan. Just a kid that three times a year, I can feel eight again as walking into the open of the stands takes my breath away, as it always has. This is my birthday weekend, and it'll be my last one as a legal kid. I fully relinquish all my faith in sabermetrics and percentages for this weekend. I want to see some grit, some hustle, some dirty uniforms and maybe just a little scrappiness (okay, thanks kevin, that's quite enough. I said, that's enough!) What I want to see is some dodger blue blood all over the playing field, Jeff Kent's pornstache shaven and abandoned in the left field corner; I want to see Brad Penny cry.
Please Giants. I could use this one. Please don't let this be a completely lost season. Win one for me and for all the fans who don the colors to cheer you.
Please.
p.s. if Nomar Garciaparra gets scissor kicked in the face while doing that silly pre-at-bat routine of his, that'd be chill.
Open Correia Thread
Should the kid be allotted a few more starts? He just shut down an awesome brewers offense in almost six innings. I don't think he's ever really been given a chance to start.
DISCUSS!!!
Forget Fukudome
I never really liked the idea of fukudome. A doubles hitter for 10-15 mil a year doesn't sound all that great. We don't really need two randy winns.
I've got a new name. Shortstop for the Yoimuri Giants, Tomohiro Nioka. Good power, average speed, good d. not a great OBP but he seems like a good enough option especially considering the fact that david eckstein will be far and away the best FA option.
any thoughts?
Mr. WannabeChadBradford likes us
Part three of his draft review is out, and he rather likes both of our second 1st rounders.

I sure love this young power hitter who is merely a month older than I.
OT: D.C. area fans help?
woo! finally i'm done with school.
anyways, this summer I'm going to be a page in the house of representatives for a month. I get off early August 4th and fly back on the 7th. Two questions for D.C. area fans:
What are some more offbeat interesting places around the area (i.e. not the white house or spy museum) that would be good to visit?
and
What's the situation around RFK stadium (getting around/ticket-wise)? I'm most likely going to attend the game on sunday.
Any help would be appreciated.
Series win thread!
It's been a long time since this has happened.
and this picture is proof that the waterfowl of the bay always beats those quacks from the north:

MVN - Mock Draft
The mock draft going on at MVN just fell to the Giants pick at 10.
It was justin Heyward based on the conferring of the three writers.
agree, disagree, good pick, bad pick?
begin arguementation.
Encarnacion
It seems like many of your favorite third baseman on the reds has fallen out of favor with his team and has been demoted. Who thinks we should pick him up?
This is going to get ugly
I just got back from San Diego via an 8-hour train ride sitting in front of an old man sucking on his teeth the entire time. Unfortunately, this experience only intensified my strong desire to punch infants. I did not see the game tonight, and I do not wish to know the sordid details, but nearly everything about this team depresses me. I can't get their games on the tube; but even if I did, I don't think i'd like to watch them. Even on a night when they mustered up six runs, they still looked like an ugly overgrown bunch of Little Leaguers. They hack at everything and can't get air under anything. Personally, i wanted Joe Lefebvre tarred and feathered after last season because of the awful hitting our products displayed. I really think Feliz has some shred of talent and if he had one decent hitting coach teach him for a week, some real progress could be made. Unfortunately I think Bochy is almost as bad as Alou at adeptly handling our bullpen. He had Kevin Correia up and pitching in the 'pen 3 times during monday night's game. Our rotation gives me some hope but is completely dimmed by our bullpen's apparent obsession with seeing huge home runs. This offseason, i missed the game so much, everyday thoughts of Matt Cain's curve (still awesome) dominating and Randy Winn learning not to swing like a girl (still girly). I've read and re-read the prospect handbook and displayed great over-enthusiasm over the kids (schierholtz and Lewis specifically). But it appears I wasted a summer. After seeing the two games, I am completely depressed. All my outright optimism has deserted me. Maybe this is a part of growing up or something but I feel awful. The only thing I am looking forward to is this year's draft. That's bad news. What's even worse? Benitez was tossing 94 tuesday night and still almost didn't get the job done with a 3-run lead.
I wasn't aware of the days of clark and I was too young to fully appreciate 2002. Is anybody aware of anything I can put my faith in? This team is run by completely blind idiots (tip of the hat, E). In an effort to turn this rant into an answerable diary: In about a year and a half i'm moving to San Francisco, are my hopes for this team at all worth saving?
interesting
Jorge Cantu was reassigned to Durham according to SI, but apparently he refuses to report. He's demanding a trade (Elijah Dukes is the starting CF). Should we pick him up? However, think of this. Check his picture out; that's the ugliest kid i've seen since Brian Giles.
He Will Be Missed
Rich Draper has retired after a "long and distinguished career" of strange metaphors and silly hyperboles. His never-dying overenthusiam for the team should be respected and cherished, a story of stoic persistence in the face of the truth.
Happy Retirement, the best wishes to the wife, the kids and that luscious moustache.
The question of Mr. Sanchez
I have heard so many differing opinions on the kid, I no longer know what to believe. I've heard he's a crafty lefty and from others a power pitcher. Great control? No control? #2 prospect, #7? I don't know enough about him to judge. I'd like everyones' thoughts on his ceiling and current ability level.
