The source behind all the fastballs.

Scouting Report:
Mariners: Hernandez returns to the scene of one of his best career starts -- a one-hitter against the Red Sox at Fenway Park three years ago -- on a big-time roll. The ace right-hander has surrendered five earned runs in his past 53 innings, striking out 51 over that span. His two-seam fastball has been his bread-and-butter pitch, and rookie catcher Rob Johnson has not been shy about calling for it.

Dammit Rob Johnson...

Per LaRue

National anthem + gas + ‘300’ = one happy Mariners bullpen. To the Jump!

In case if you haven't noticed the Mariner's bullpen now has a spartan helmet on it.

That was the beginning. What happened next was inexplicable. Lowe downloaded a movie – "300" – about a small group of Spartan warriors who held off thousands of Persians before finally succumbing to the numbers.

Lowe loved the film.

"I liked it, I talked to Wetteland about it and it kind of caught on a little bit at the time," Lowe said. "I thought it symbolized our mind-set in the bullpen. Being the idiots that we are, we take it to extremes."

And wait there's more...

Lowe, after talking about the bullpen, was inspired by yet another idea.

"Maybe the producers of ‘300’ will see us and they’ll send us all the gear," he said. "We could dress a batting practice dummy in the whole suit of armor out there. That would be great!"

I already saw one too many Spartans in a sporting event...

I'm talking about an ambidextrous pitcher!

From the Queen Mother himself:

His name is Pat Venditte, he's 23, and he's pro baseball's only ambidextrous pitcher. This living piece of history is more than a YouTube star; he's throwing almost daily for the Charleston RiverDogs, the Yankees' Single-A club. And he's not just throwing: He's blowing through hitters like a Cub Scout through Skittles. At one point in April, the closer's ERA was 0.00 in 6 1/3 innings, and he hadn't blown a save in five games.

That we such an awesome site to see a guy switching between his right and left arm.(hehehehe That sounds dirty for some reason.)

There are a lot of "never befores" with Venditte. The pitching coach has to file two reports: Venditte the lefty and Venditte the righty. And he should; they're two different pitchers. The righty has a 90 mph fastball, a curve and a nice change. The lefty comes sidearm and has a murderous slider and a change. He's a five-pitch pitcher! Once, in Little League, the other team's coach came up to Pat Sr. and said, "Your twins pitched a heck of a game."

Of course the Yankee's have him in their system so that automatically docks awesomeness points away from you and adds douchebaggery points a little and whether he can actually make it the the majors is another question as well but seeing a guy switch arms in the middle of an inning will be an interesting sight.
