Grade the Rangers (First Half Edition)

Alright, since we are at the break and since we don't play again till Friday night, I thought this would be the prefect time for us to grade the Rangers so far on their play this year. We have seen some of the local media do this already but now it is the LSBers time to give their thoughts and grades of the players, our manager and our GM (on how well he constructed this team and the draft he just finished).

In this grading, we are only going to include guys that have spent the majority of their time this season in the majors. So there will be no Julio Borbon in here or Willie Eyre. Just give the player a grade you feel that they deserve, plus if you want to add some comments on why you gave them that grade. Hopefully this will keep us busy up until Friday night when we play again. There will probably be one of these at the end of the year as well

The Dallas Stars and You

I thought that this would be a good discussion since this is a new blog and all, and it would be cool to see everyone's answer.

What made you become a Stars fan? How did you get attracted to them?

Or for those who don't like our team, what about our team don't you like?

For me, when the Stars first came to Dallas, I had no idea who they were or what the hell hockey was. I was still young at the time, and the only sport that I knew about was football (cause being in Dallas, its Cowboys all the time). Well, my dad brought me back to his room, and showed me that Dallas now had a hockey team, and started teaching me the game. It wasn't until I attended a game later that season that I got hooked. Now, die heart Stars fans will remember this, but my favorite players were Russ Courtnall, Shane Churla, Andy Moog (who's stick is hanging over my bed signed by him), and of course, Mike Modano. I stayed with that team all the way till the lost to Vancouver in the playoffs, and thus, I became a true Stars fan, and have been one to this day. I still support this team to this day (even after the lockout) and will be a fan till the end.

OT - Cowboys release Pacman

The Adam "Pacman" Jones era in Dallas is over.

The Cowboys announced his release on Wednesday. The transaction will be made official on Feb. 9th, which is the first day that NFL clubs are allowed to make waiver requests.

The Pacman Era seemed to go off great didn't it? This must be the first step to reshaping the Cowboys I hope. Jerry must have been telling the truth when he said that some players would be thrown under the woodshed for their play this season.

A.J. Burnett close to deal with Braves (plus other notes)

Per ESPN and Gammons

Free-agent right-hander A.J. Burnett's agents will be in Las Vegas this afternoon, and they think talks are progressing with the Braves.

• Arizona wants to sign veteran infielder Mark Loretta.

• The Rangers will still talk about catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, even with Gerald Laird having been dealt to Detroit.

• Milton Bradley has met with the Rays.

There are talks that right when the first big name free agent pitcher signs, it will set the market for other pitchers. With Burnett, who is considered to be in the top tier, about to sign, we might be seeing the big contacts for pitchers signed here in the next couple of days

The Braves have offered Burnett a four-year, $60 million deal with a buyout and a fifth-year option. It's believed that Atlanta's overall package, including the option, is worth $75 million.
