Draft Day 3 Best Players Available

With the start of day three of the NFL Draft just hours away, and with positions that still need to be addressed by the team.

2014 NFL Draft Bold Predictions.

Chris Trotman/Getty Images With the 2014 NFL Draft within striking distance [exhales for a moment], I thought it would be fun to see what "BOLD" predictions the members of CSR have for this...

Who needs draft picks?

The Panthers have done well recently in picking up undrafted rookies that have become contributors. Which potentially undrafted players are on Gettleman's hit list this year?

Oh No! Big Frank

NFL suspended Panthers DE Frank Alexander four games for violating the league's substance abuse policy. It's a blow to Carolina's up-front depth, as Alexander is a useful reserve behind starters Greg Hardy and Charles Johnson. The 24-year-old plays a lot of snaps at left defensive end when Johnson kicks inside to tackle in sub-packages. Alexander finished 2013 with 15 tackles and a sack. His absence gives more opportunity to Mario Addison, Wes Horton, and CFL signee Alex Hall. May 2 - 3:17 PM

Is Carolina Interested In This Alabama OT?

With the draft still three weeks away and counting plus with the news of prospect meetings still coming in daily, Carolina has once again worked out a first round caliber talent that this team so...

Could This Linebacker Be In The Mix For Carolina?

With all of the speculating on who all of us think Carolina is interested in, I bring you news of a talent that has already had a good visit with the team. Telvin Smith the game changing "Will"...

Will this Cowboy become a Panther?

Here's a late round WR the Panthers have met with on several occasions.

Ed Dickson visiting Carolina

Free agent TE Ed Dickson is visiting the Panthers. It's Dickson's first-known visit of free agency, though the Baltimore Sun reported last month that he had contract offers from the Jaguars and Ravens. It's a bit unbelievable that Dickson would have turned down any offer after back-to-back poor seasons. In Carolina, he'd compete for No. 2 duties behind Greg Olsen. Panthers sign Jason Avant.

Panthers signed Jason Avant, formerly of the Eagles, to a one-year deal. Avant will pair with the newly acquired Jerricho Cotchery to form one of the most underwhelming starting wideout duos in the league. With every impact free agent wide receiver signed, the Panthers are simply looking for cheap veterans to complement the playmakers they will likely draft this May. Avant caught 38 passes for 447 yards and two touchdowns with the Eagles last season. Related: Eagles

Panthers getting serious about Latimer.

#Panthers WR coach Ricky Proehl + dir. coll scouting Don Gregory will have dinner with Cody Latimer 4/8 and class-room exercise 4/9

Panthers Talking To Colin Cole

• The Panthers are in contract talks with defensive tackle Colin Cole, a free agent who essentially came off his couch to start 13 games last year for the league’s top-ranked defense. Cole, 33, who made the veteran minimum salary of $840,000 in his first season with Carolina, isn’t a guy who’s going to fill up a stat sheet. But at 6-2 and 335 pounds, he is a space-eater who played well in 2013 after being out of football for two years.

O-Line Help Could Be Closer Than You Think?

Now I know you are thinking to yourself that Dozier did not play for none of the AQ football programs, but that does not change the fact he dominated the ranks of the FCS

Panthers Hire Veteran Coach John Ramsdell

The Panthers have hired longtime NFL assistant coach John Ramsdell to serve as a senior offensive assistant. Ramsdell fills the vacancy created when former offensive quality control coach Lance Taylor left to take a position at Stanford.

QB Visiting Carolina

Wyoming QB Brett Smith will make an official visit to the Panthers. Smith also has another visit lined up but could not reveal the team. The Wyoming product was snubbed from the Combine, likely due to his surprising entry in the draft. The Panthers were fond of Russell Wilson in 2012 and will likely be searching for a long term backup behind Cam Newton. Source: Eric Edholm on Twitter Mar 31 - 4:52 PM

Panthers meeting with WR Cody Latimer

The Panthers are showing interest in Indiana wide receiver Cody Latimer.

Brandin Cooks Meeting With the Panthers.

Oregon State WR Brandin Cooks has a meeting scheduled to visit with the Panthers. Carolina, having recently lost wide receivers Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell to free agency, have a major need on the perimeter. Why not fill it with a prospect that many have compared to Smith himself? Cooks (5-foot-9 3/4, 185 pounds), a slot dynamo, put on a show at the combine, running a 4.33-second 40-yard dash. He's already visited with the Patriots. Cooks was asked whom he patterns his game after, and his answer should make Panthers' fans swoon. "Steve Smith, he's a great receiver and one of the best out there," Cooks said. "Being under six-foot, he's not one of the biggest receivers, but at the same time, he brings everything to the table that any other guy can. I definitely try to mold my game after a guy like that." Davante Adams: 1st round sleeper?

With the upcoming draft roughly six weeks away and with the news coming in who the Panthers have had in for visits and workouts starting to trickle in as of to date.

Carolina Panthers at Baylor Pro-Day.

Panthers college scout John Peterson was present at Baylor's 2014 pro-day. He is the Panthers scout sitting in the chair during the bench press portion of the pro-day.

Eric Ebron Has Visit Scheduled With Carolina.

UNC TE Eric Ebron has team visits scheduled with the Bills, Lions, Ravens and Panthers. Ebron listed these four as official team visits, which teams only have a finite amount of (30). The athletic tight end added he will not try to improve on his 4.60 forty from the Combine. Ebron will likely play a similar role to Vernon Davis in the NFL, but he needs to improve his inline presence to do so. The athleticism is there to rack up yards after the catch, however, Ebron can improve at the catch point, as he dropped over 11 percent of his catchable targets in 2013. Carolina Had Private Workout With Corey Brown Of OSU.

The Panthers put Ohio State WR Corey Brown through a private workout on Wednesday. Panthers fans have wide receiver thirst, but this news will not quench it. Brown started 34 games over the last three seasons and caught 14 touchdowns in that span. He ran a 4.51 forty at the Combine and could make his biggest impact as a returner. Watch Out For Tavarres King........

Tavarres King and Marvin McNutt would be the Panthers starting receivers if the season started today. Over the last week, the Panthers have cut Steve Smith, whiffed on Hakeem Nicks/James Jones, and watched Brandon LaFell/Ted Ginn/Domenik Hixon sign elsewhere. GM Dave Gettleman will likely add a veteran in the form of Jerricho Cotchery or maybe Kenny Britt, but King is a name to watch. He led the NCAA in yards per reception at 22.6 as a senior at Georgia, lit up Alabama for 128 yards on five catches in the SEC title game and has 4.47 wheels. Antoine Cason To Visit Carolina.

Free agent CB Antoine Cason will visit the Panthers. The ex-Charger played only 169 defensive snaps for the Cardinals last season, struggling in coverage. He's still only 27, however, and just one year removed from being a 16-game starter. Cason would be a sensible, cheap flier for a team with a beastly front seven that takes pressure off its secondary. Mar 18 - 8:01 PM Source: Mike Garafolo on Twitter

Terrell Thomas Visited The Panthers

Free agent CB Terrell Thomas visited the Panthers. Thomas would be a cheap, veteran flier for the Panthers' under-construction secondary. Thomas visited the Raiders last week, but has otherwise drawn little interest. He's Rotoworld's No. 2 remaining corner. Mar 18 - 6:29 PM Source: Howard Balzer on Twitter

Billy Turner in the 3rd?

NFL.com's Gil Brandt assigns North Dakota State OL Billy Turner a Day 2 grade, likely "down near the end of the third round." Turner (6-foot 5 3/8, 314 pounds) elected to retain his combine numbers and only did position drills at last week's NDSU pro day. That we know of, he has met with the Cowboys, Buccaneers, Panthers and Vikings. The large left tackle is a mauling blocker but lacks consistent technique. Source: NFL.com Mar 17 - 10:26 PM

Jim Irsay what a class act.

Colts owners Jim Irsay has been arrested on DUI and drug possession chargers. Irsay was booked around 3am Monday morning in Carmel, a suburb of Indianapolis, and his bond has been set at $22,500. Other than that, details are still emerging. The colorful and outspoken Irsay has been with the Colts since 1982 and took the team over from his father in 1997. Could The Crimson Tide Provide Carolina A WR?

With the recent depletion of the wide receiver corps for the Carolina Panthers, the team will have to address the holes left behind either via free agency and in the upcoming NFL Draft. Let's take...

Off Sails The Captain

Vikings signed CB Captain Munnerlyn to a three-year contract with a max value of $15 million. Munnerlyn is obviously stretched outside at 5-foot-8 and 195 pounds, but he's one of the best slot corners in the game. Still only 26 -- he turns next month -- Munnerlyn turned in a breakout 2013 campaign as a 16-game starter, setting career highs in tackles (74), sacks (3.5), and pass breakups (12). He has four pick sixes over the past two seasons. Look for Munnerlyn to start outside on early downs and cover the slot in Mike Zimmer's nickel package. Looks like Brandon Lafell might be going up North.

Free agent WR Brandon LaFell is visiting the Patriots Wednesday. Tom Brady should be bubbling over with frustration. The Patriots failed to pony up the cash for Wes Welker last season and appear poised to follow the same path with Julian Edelman this year. LaFell is another backup-caliber outside receiver that wouldn't be an upgrade on the likes of Aaron Dobson and Kenbrell Thompkins. LaFell's best work comes as a run blocker.
