Joe Morgan - FIRED!
Well, technically, so did Jon.
But, ah yes. I can only imagine the joy oozing out of Jon's ears and yelling out a William Wallace-esque: "Freeeeeeeeedom!"
It would be nice to have Jon Miller doing the Giants' TV and radio broadcasts permanently, but I hope he can land a better weekly gig on MLB Network.

I noticed quite a few members from Golden State of Mind were in the house. I had to keep my swearing to a minimum or else I would be banned from that part of the restaurant. And too many Athletics Nation folks moochin’ on our booze.

John Shea: Oakland's team isn't getting an A in attendance
It's actually not as bad as when the Giants' tenancy was ending at Candlestick. But, I find it humorous when Oakland fans, players, and ownership try figuring out why fans are not showing up to games.
LOL:
"On April 16, they were outdrawn by their top minor-league team, the Sacramento River Cats, 14,014 to 12,225."
Looks like I'll be buying my Panda bobblehead. =[

18-year old knuckleballer Eri Yoshida signs with independent league
Erin Yoshida has signed with Chico affiliate of the Golden Gate League. It will be pretty awesome to see how far she goes. Last I heard, she has been taking pointers from knuckleballer, Tim Wakefield. I wish her great success.
Jason Bay and a Bum Knee
Beat writer Rob Bradford reports that Theo Epstein was concerned about red flags pointing to Jason Bay's knee. This ultimately led to Bay signing with the Mets.
Bay took a physical in July, and the Red Sox's medical staff had some red flags, namely the condition of the left fielder's knees. Bay's agent Joe Urbon had come to Boston, presumably for a press conference announcing the ne deal. Instead, general manager Theo Epstein informed him of the team's concerns, and the deal was put on hold.
The Red Sox said that they would keep Bay's AAV -- average annual value -- the same, at $15 million per year. But they wanted protection in the third and fourth year, in the event Bay's knees and shoulder acted up. The team also wanted Bay to undergo surgery at the end of the 2009 season.
and then LOLMETS
At any rate, Bay found another suitor -- the Mets -- that didn't share Boston's concerns about his long-term health. And that was where he ended up.
If Bay has knee problems at some point over the next four years, the Red Sox will be proven right to take the conservative approach they did.
Wow. I look at this, and then at the Giants current situation with F. Sanchez. I am just dumbfounded by the Giants medical staff and Brian Sabean's decision to re-sign him.
So with this are you guys glad we didn't sign Bay?

San Francisco’s Pablo Sandoval powered the Navegantes del Magallanes to the best-of-seven championship series against Caracas. The series begins tonight.
Sandoval, 23, hit .395/.425/.604 in 20 regular-season games, then batted .477/.500/.932 with five home runs in 10 playoff appearances.
Maybe I'm incorrect, but didn't Giants brass pull him out of Winter ball?

I was perusing through the Chronicle site and came upon this picture/headline combo. I was easily amused.

At least he didn't get shot in the back. Is it necessary for police to gang up on a belligerent drunk and taze him?

McCoven Night at Muni Stadium
It was chilly night at Muni, but a lot of heat was thrown by Tim Alderson. Buster Posey decided to make it a show and end up a triple short of a cycle.
It was exciting for me to see AnVil live, and in person. I keep forgetting he is 18. But my goodness, his bat speed is fantastically quick. He made some great defensive plays as well (!?!).
Here are some pics I took. Sorry, as the night was coming in, the zoom on my point and shoot started acting up.

Rally Matt Cain Thread 04/14 - 04/15
GO!
It's a down time for Giants fans and I thought it would be appropriate to have a rally Giants thread. But, the team is just pissing me off as a whole (besides Dwight & Fred), so they don't deserve the honor.
So this thread is dedicated to Matt Cain, the lord of all that sucks in the world of baseball. Matt Cain will probably fail and will end up the suckiest of the entire rotation.*
*(just kidding... Matt Cain is awesome)

Ozzie Guillen. Not a bad guy.
From the Chronicle:
White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen found a way to honor the fallen (Oakland) officers, writing "OPD" on the front of his cap with a silver marker.
"There's no reason to take a person's life," he said. "It's a hard day for the Bay Area. I've never seen anything sadder than a police funeral. If it's police or fireman or military and you take their life away because they're protecting our country, it's a sad thing. It's a sad day not just for the Bay Area but the United States."

San Jose still seems to be Giants territory
Commissioner Bud Selig visited Scottsdale Stadium on Sunday and met for an hour with Giants managing general partner Bill Neukom and President Larry Baer. Baer would not discuss the meeting but hinted Selig affirmed his public stance that he will not allow the A's to breach the Giants' territorial rights to San Jose.

Judge tosses out key evidence in Bonds's ttrial
Your tax dollars hard at work.
From the Chronicle:
The judge's ruling places some of the government's most significant evidence off-limits. No longer available are:
-- Reports on private steroid tests from 2000 and 2001, allegedly arranged by Anderson via the Bay Area Laboratory Cooperative in Burlingame. The government says they show Bonds was using the injectable steroids methenelone and nandrolone.
-- "Handwritten notes, calendars and drug ledgers" seized in a raid on Anderson's Burlingame condominium in 2003. The government says the trainer created the documents to track Bonds' regimen of banned drugs.
-- Testimony about doping calendars from Oakland A's slugger Jason Giambi and six other ball players who admit they obtained steroids from Anderson. The players said Anderson kept calendars for them that are similar to the ones he allegedly kept for Bonds, according to the government. The players still may be permitted to testify about other matters.
I'm really looking forward to seeing this movie.
