Coach Tedford's Call Lifts Alumnus' Spirit
It's no surprise that George Romero's favorite colors are blue and gold. He graduated from UC Berkeley in 1968, and he remains passionately loyal to his alma mater, including the Cal football team, while he fights for his life.
Romero has terminal brain cancer. But just as he's convinced that Cal can return to the Rose Bowl after 52 years, he truly thinks he can beat his medical condition despite ongoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments.
In late July, he received a phone call at a Los Gatos nursing home, where he was staying after having surgery to remove a malignant brain tumor. "Mr. Romero, this is Cal football coach Jeff Tedford."
Full story here.
This is the kinda stuff that makes me love the guy---he's not just a great coach but a genuinely nice guy who cares for his players and the fans.
Mr. Romero, I hope you get well soon and I hope to see you in Memorial for many years to come. Good luck and my prayers are with you.

Where Can a Dusty Dirty Fan Watch the Cal-UCLA Game Near North Lake Tahoe?
So I've got a family camping commitment this weekend that I can't back out of, but I really want to see the game since this could be the start of our big comeback. [Hey, you, don't laugh, it can happen!]
I'm sure there's got to be some sort of loyal Bear following in Tahoe that cajoles the local bar owners into showing the games. Anybody know which establishment will be showing the game? Any help is greatly appreciated. And I promise to scrub down a bit before showing up! ha ha.
Memorial Revamp to Include Equity Seating Rights
Interestingly enough, this article was linked front and center on the home page of MSNBC.
But a change is afoot in the stands below. What’s free on the hill may soon be expensive among 3,000 prime seats between the 35-yard lines – possibly costing as much as $225,000 per alum.
Cal is hoping to sell Equity Seat Rights (ESR), a new concept championed by Stadium Capital Financing Group in Chicago. Unlike a personal seat license, where one pays a few thousand dollars or more for the right to purchase tickets, an ESR gives the seat holder ownership for, say, 30 years. The price of a ticket for an ESR is fixed during that time, while a PSL ticket has no cost ceiling.
Well, it looks like Patrick Chung got "Patrick Chung'd" yet again, though not nearly as cool as when Marshawn did it. Kind of got to feel a little sorry for this guy, it's like his face is a freakin' magnet for the straight-arm to the ground!
