Yankees sell Rasner to Japan

According to ESPN.com, Rasner "has been sold to a team in Japan for $1 million." While he apparently requested the move, I do not see why he or the Yankees would want to do such a thing. I'm sure he could have been used in the bullpen or as trade bait to a National League team. This might just mean we are going to have enough depth in our rotation for once that we will not have a place for him no matter how many injuries we may incur. Well I personally wont miss him but I do wish him good luck.

The real advantage here is that it allows Cashman to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. Rasner has little trade value, but as a starter he almost surely wouldn't clear waivers.

I suspect it indicates that the Yankees are serious about bringing in 3 free agent starters to compliment Joba and Wang.

For all of you that worried the Yankees might sign Cairo to back up our back up infielders..

This is a great day to be a Yankee fan! It's wonderful to know he will not be on our 25 man roster, lets jsut hope cash doesnt trade for him at the break..

Jake Peavy for Hughes, Melky?

At mlbtraderumors he says Buster Olney states that theres "talk" of Jake Peavy for Phil Hughes and Melky Cabrera at the GM meetings.

this is obviously just a rumor but what do you think?

Peavys gonna be an exepensive signing in 2 years, and i doubt the pads would fork up the money so there open to hear talks

i love hughes and value melky really hight but i think youd have to make this trade

A Rod

theres something about the whole situation that i just cant digest. I feel like theres a 95% chance he will be in pinstripes next year, he know the yankees were bluffing and he called them out on it, cashman is just gonna fold and give A rod everything he wants. we all have our different opinion on arod but we all can agree he is a monster, and theres nothing better we can do with the money we save. There is no better third baseman out there, and he can easily switch with jeter when jeter breaks down. Not to mention all the lost revenue on jerseys, shirts, and all other A rod memoribilia, and how about all of the stuff already out there on store shelves, do they throw it out and take a loss. My point is ARod will still be a Yankee next year, no if and or buts

Sounds like a baseball flip-flop.

Rudy Giuliani, a lifelong New York Yankees fan, said Tuesday he's pulling for their most hated rivals, the Boston Red Sox, to win the World Series over the Colorado Rockies.

"I'm rooting for the Red Sox," the Republican presidential contender said in response to a question, sparking applause at the Boston restaurant where he was picking up a local endorsement.

"I'm an American League fan, and I go with the American League team, maybe with the exception of the Mets," he said. "Maybe that would be the one time I wouldn't because I'm loyal to New York."

(It wasn't the first time Giuliani had made the declaration, mentioning it before Sunday night's GOP debate and in a FOX News editorial meeting a few weeks ago.)

Giuliani's Yankees lost in the first round of the playoffs, then lost their manager when Giuliani's friend, Joe Torre, refused to accept a pay cut and walked away. Giuliani said the Yankees had "a great season."

The former New York mayor said his declaration of temporary Red Sox loyalty was "not just because I'm here in Massachusetts."

"In Colorado, in the next week or two, you will see, I will have the courage to tell the people of Colorado the same thing, that I am rooting for the Red Sox in the World Series," he said.

Indeed, if Giuliani was pandering, he miscalculated.

In the last presidential election, Colorado went with Republican President Bush, and recent history shows Massachusetts voters would sooner adopt Manhattan clam chowder as the state's official food than vote Republican in 2008.

Of course, just to the north is New Hampshire -- home to many Red Sox fans -- and the nation's first primary.
