Waiver wire deals?

We have seen in the past that Hendry has made some moves after the trade deadline, and I hope he does the same here.

The primary reason- the bullpen. With Wood out for at least another 2-3 days, and the fact that both Howry AND Eyre cannot be trusted to pitch other than with massive leads or massive deficits, Hendry should make a move.

The starting pitching, defense and hitting are all way above average. But a move to pull in one more righty, like Gaudin for example (decent numbers, unlikely to implode), would be enough to carry us through.

Any suggestions as to a waiver deal? Heath Bell, Jared Burton?

There's a common misperception by non Cubs fans, particularly those in the media, that Cubs fans are doe-eyed optimists who accept blindly when our club plays poorly. (Yes, Jay M, I'm talking to you. Tall enough to get on that roller coaster, yet? But I digress)

My impression is that Cubs fans are the utlimate realists:

When the Cubs are really bad, Cubs fans expect poor results and almost laugh when they come.

When the Cubs field a decent team, we expect the worst and hope for the best.

But this year. This year I find myself in a bit of a pickle. The team is so well-rounded that I now find myself actually walking around the house while the game is on, expecting a good result. Which most of the time comes to fruition.

So I ask my fellows Cubs fans- do you find yourself now embracing an outlook toward the Cubs that you find unfamiliar? That is, optimism? Are you, like me, getting spoiled by the level-headedness and talent in this team?

Rowand sings for $60m

He signed a five year deal for $60m with the Giants.

Personally, I think that the cubs made a far better deal for Kosuke. One year less, 12m less, and I think Kosuke brings as much, if not more, to the table.

The Giants seems to be very good about putting together albatross contracts which they end up regretting.

I think this will be one of them.

Rumor is that Jimbo is looking to dump three years and $14m on this joker.

Let's do a little comparison, shall we?
162 596 92 162 33 6 7 57 45 110 27 4 .272 .325 .387 .712
162 528 90 146 32 4 5 47 52 54 32 5 .276 .341 .379 .720

The top line- Kaz Matsui
The bottom line- that's right, Ryan Theriot.

Although Matsui is a little slicker with the glove, he would be a terrible waste of money, when Ryan has a higher OBP, and is otherwise an equal to Matsui.

The only way I could forgive this move is if it meant, for sure, that fukudome was coming here.
