Sox acquire Mark Teahen?

The Daily News learned the White Sox have agreed to send second baseman Chris Getz and third baseman Josh Fields to the Royals for Mark Teahen, who is expected to replace Jermaine Dye as Chicago's right fielder.

U-God edit: Sox officially re-signed Mark Kotsay. One year, 1.5 mil.

Koosman to plead guilty to tax evasion

Only thought I'd mention this because of fond memories of Koosman from the '83 team. I've got nothing other than sentiment to validate the fondness. I know his walk total was high that season and statistical analysis probably bears out a less than brilliant season, but I still recall him throwing some meaningful innings that year. This is lousy to hear.

Neyer reaches for new heights in douchiness

He picks up a pretty silly blog post and runs with it. And runs. Runs a Kansas City marathon on it. Reasonable if unoriginal points made. Brief lesson on the difference between literal and figurative. (That's a useful lesson, Rob. Would you like to teach the world why the word hopefully is almost always improperly used?)

And the whole thing is just awash in this effluvia of personal asshatness.

"I don't know what people are worrying about in spring training," Dotel said Monday. "If it was the [regular] season, that's different. But it's spring training 2009, Cactus League.

"What I did in the [regular] season, that's what counts. I don't know why people are worrying about it in spring training."

Poreda to compete for shot in pen, possibly build Sukkah in bullpen

The Sox would like Poreda to develop his changeup and slider so he'll be less predictable with his fastball. Poreda said he has made significant strides in that area.

"I'm working on the changeup every day and throwing it more than I throw my fastball," Poreda said. "I'm working on getting the grip right. Now it's a matter of transforming it into my bullpen workouts and game situations."

Poreda is devoted to his faith and hopes to perform well in front of the large Jewish Chicago community.

"I'm a big family man," Poreda said. "I really like to celebrate the Jewish holidays. It's good to know Chicago has a strong Jewish background.

"Our family celebrates all the High Holidays. But it has been hard being on the road. I enjoy going home and celebrating them."

This is the second time the Trib's made a point - not necessarily coherently - of noting that Podreda's Jewish (I think Rogers did it the first time).
