I'm a huge fight fan, I watch as many fights as I can, I go to local events, to watch friends fight in boxing, muay thai and mma, I consider myself to be a pretty good analyst and I've trained in Muay Thai and done a handful of BJJ lessons (it's the most expensive martial art I've ever tried!)
My kind of fighter is, respectful, composed and aggressive, having said that I love Wanderlei and that man is anything but composed.
In the name of the Fedor, the Anderson and the GSP, Amen.

Fedor Emelianenko

Fighters don't deserve your disrespect
I used to post on here more or less everyday but work, family, girlfriend, training, gigs etc. etc. make it difficult these days, but I still keep up with the news and read comments sometimes. And ofcourse I always watch the fights.
Unfortunately though one thing has been consistent throughout all of the time I have spent on this site or any other mma site. The level of contempt shown for fighters by posters on these sites still completely baffles me.

Striker vs. Grappler... The history and the coming weeks
The history of MMA is littered with match ups that fit the description, "striker vs. grappler". As the sport evolves and fighters increasingly start out as mixed martial artists, instead of having one speciality that they rely on, these match ups are becoming increasingly rare. So I thought I would take a look back at the history between the two skill sets and see how it may help us predict the out comes of the following, up coming, high profile matches.
Anderson Silva vs Demian Maia
Gegard Mousasi vs Muhammed Lawal
Josh Koschek vs Paul Daley

UFC 110: Is it the end of PRIDE -- or a new beginning?
Nostradumbass here. I was taking a closer look at the significance of the UFC 110 fight card as it pertains to the careers of three PRIDE FC greats: Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic, Wanderlei "The Axe Murderer" Silva and Antonio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira.
And as usual, an MMA Maniac beat me to the punch.
"Spinning Fat Kick" has a nice breakdown of their pending match-ups from the Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia. All three warriors made their names in the Japanese fight scene and have also all held one form of championship gold overseas.
And for you numbers guys (and gals), chew on this: They have a combined record of 89-22. They've finished a staggering 70 of those 89 victims: 26 by submission and 44 by way of (technical) knockout. Tonight's homework is to find three homegrown UFC fighters that can match those numbers.
While "Minotauro" Nogueira is the only transplant (of these three) to sport a winning record under the Zuffa banner, they once again find themselves on the main card of a UFC pay-per-view. Of course, all three are in their thirties and have enjoyed a tremendous amount of success (and some heartbreaking failure).
Can they make one last run at Octagon greatness? Or will Saturday night be the final nail in the PRIDE coffin? SFK takes a closer look at the PRIDE parlay and the chances of a clean sweep after the jump.
UFC 110: Pride's Revenge
Mirko Cro Cop, Wanderlei Silva and Minotauro Nogueira all made their names in Pride. Now all three of those names find themselves on the main card of UFC 110. But just how likely is the Pride parlay?

BOO THIAGO! my verdicts on 108!!
First off, happy new year mania, now that I'm back at work I'm back on mania. I just wanted to vent a little and get some opinions on some things at 108.
BOO Thiago!! I actually lost alot of respect for Thiago, he got beat up and pretty much embarressed for 2 rounds then he comes out in the third acting the big man, show boating etc. like he's got something to be proud of, OK Thiago... well done for landing 1 effective strike in a 15 minute fight, what's worse is that when he finally did land something worth looking at, he was too tired to capitalize and just stood there watching Rashad stumble around. Thiago has gone down drastically in my estimations.
Hazelett's crazy cartwheel kick!? Anybody want to tell me what the f*ck that was about? He is fighting one of the best WW stand up fighters in the UFC and his first action in the fight is some kind of wierd hand stand forward roll kick?!!?? Bizzare... Daley is scary!!! real one punch knock out power and unlike Rumble, Thiago(silva or Alves), he's patient, technical and experienced. WAR SEMTEX!! He is a danger to anyone at WW, GSP included, reason being, you can't teach a chin, and if this guy catches you, it's all over. The only thing that Semtex needs to do to really put aside any doubts that I and most others have of him, is to fight and beat a good wrestler, Kos, Fitch etc. It will be interesting to see if the UFC keep spoon feeding him guys with poor stand up, or fights just for excitement, Rumble, Alves for example or if they put him against Kos and really see what he can do on the ground.
Other than that I think it was a really great night of fights, the Dan Lauzon fight was really exciting. Yvel-Dos Santos went pretty much as I expected, I couldn't work out if Miller looked really good or Lauzon looked really bad (gassed) for the majority of the fight but I'm inclined to believe the latter. The only thing I was really dissappointed with was Thiago. He is supposed to be a BJJ black belt and has great stand up, but when you see him fight he just looks totally one dimensional. He looked lost fighting from his back and his TDD really wasn't where it needed to be against a guy like Rashad, come on Thiago!! get back in the game, he has the potential to be great, he just needs to recognize that it doesn't always need to be a KO!
POLL: Carwin vs Mir
I for one, don't get why some people have Carwin as such a clear winner here! please vote and then if you're going with Carwin, Try and convince me please!!!!
Previous post of mine:
I just don’t see it, I think Carwin is grossly over rated and will get exposed, he is extrememly powerful, but he isn’t a great mover, has never really fought anybody that good and the one time he actually did fight somebody half decent, Gabe, he was getting completely schooled, he was bleeding, rocked etc. until he landed that punch. I think his only chance is to land a big right hand, but despite being a pr*ck, Frank is actually a really intelligent fighter, and that coupled with the fact that Carwin is relatively slow, means that Mir will see that punch coming all day long. I for one don’t think that Carwin will want to wrestle with Frank, because unless he somehow lands in full mount immediately, Frank probably will submit him, off of his back Frank is one of the most dangerous HWs going, and he is a lot bigger and stronger, and Shane doesn’t have top control anywhere near as technical or effective as Brocks. and as for Franks striking, he just knocked down arguably the best striker in the division.
In terms of comparisons with the Brock fights, Carwin is not as good a wrestler and is nowhere near as quick, agile or athletic as Brock. As I said Shane could somehow get that big right hand out quick enough to catch Frank or just be big enough to control him on the ground, but I don’t think that he'll do either. Plus even then Frank can take a good punch, he’s never been cleanly knocked out, and we all know how many times Brock had to smash his head before he went out. Just don’t see what Shane has that Frank doesn’t do better or have an answer to. At the same time, Shane might get lucky and punch Franks face through the back of his head, but if he does, it’s not because he’s an excellent boxer or a great fighter, it’s just because he’s a juggernaut with arms like cannons. He doesn’t deserve to be anywhere near a title shot as far as I’m concerned.
Poll: Ultimate fighting Circus? Is Zuffa cheapening MMA by making itself richer?
As a fight fan I can't help but think that things within the UFC are reaching a level of the absurd that we haven't seen since UFC 1 and Teila Tuli. When Dana holds Kimbo Slice, an ageing street fighter with arthritis and a very basic skill set, in higher regard than Dan Henderson, a wrestler who competed for his country in the olympics, TWICE, and a former two weight pride champion with wins over minotauro, babalu, Vitor Belfort, Wanderlei Silva, Akihiro Gono etc.
But am I just being naive? As a fight fan I don't see why I should care about PPVs and and marketable fighters, but on the flip side, without those things the UFC wouldn't put on the great fights that it does. Do I have the right to grumble? Or as fight fans should we just take what we're given and be happy to dance to Zuffas tune?
