Hmmmmmm. Hockey fell into my lap at 8 years old when my mom met my stepdad. He was a big Rangers fan, but also a huge Joe Sakic fan. When Quebec moved to Colorado, where I'm from, we both became instant fans. And we were rewarded quickly when St. Patrick came aboard and led the Avs to the Cup. Haven't stopped playing the game since.
Along with hockey, I was converted to a BSU fan for life, as I graduated in 2008 and both my stepdad and his dad are alums (albeit one was back in the BJC days. . .)
Outside the rink, I work for a boring company doing IT work for the military. I also play soccer, football, volleyball and occasionally softball.
Go Broncos!
Go Avs!

Panthers tender contracts
Looks like Richie Brockel has a good shot of sticking with the Panthers and Cam Newton.
Saw this today and couldn't help but laugh. Go Broncos!

Our Bronco Cousins looking at George Iloka
The Mile High Report, SB Nation's Denver Bronco blog, has a nice little write-up about how they'd like to see Iloka in Denver competing at SS. (Possibly a replacement for Brian Dawkins when he retires?)
Also, they're not too impressed with Kellen. Sad face.
Pretty sure this highlight video was posted last fall, but I came across it again and just couldn't be more excited to see Jack Fields on the Blue.
His breakaway speed after hitting the hole is outstanding.
BSU to Big East tomorrow. . .
@McMurphyCBS: BREAKING: Sources tell @CBSSports Big East will add Boise, San Diego St, Houston, UCF, SMU Wednesday. Will join league in 2013
Scary or fodder?
@TheBigLead: [1of2] Heard UNC & UCLA are currently slugging it out over Boise's Chris Petersen. He's listening. Boise is aware of this ...
@TheBigLead: [2of2] Source said Petersen isn't definitely leaving, but he's listening to UCLA/UNC more than other schools that came at him in previous yrs

I know it's a moot point now, but from the replays I saw, this was not a TD. Even after review, they called it good. . . Opinions?
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins eyes job with Oilers
Brief tidbit about Landeskog being the most physically mature of the top 3 picks.
But I mostly wanted everyone to see that Yahoo! Sports now has a "Junior Hockey page.
Former Boise State players Winterswyk, Zabransky to take part in pre-game festivities Saturday
Looks like they took Z out of the spotlight, which I think is good considering the fan backlash that has been rising of late.
Winterswyk will present the game ball, along with Herschel Walker.
Zabransky is leading the team onto the field....
Poll. Because everyone likes them. . .
We're all bored with the lack of news the offseason brings (or doesn't). So let's start with something that's likely to spark debate among the "purists" about wood vs composite, and will also benefit me by helping decide which one I should try out this season. And apparently I still don't have enough words typed to publish this yet, so here's a video of my favorite wood-stick using scorer:

Rivals.com: Preseason Top 15: Defensive Tackles
Billy Winn at #2:
"He has been a playmaker from his tackle spot, accounting for 22 tackles for loss over the past two seasons. He's also athletic enough to have 12.5 sacks and six pass breakups in his career."
RIVALS.COM PRESEASON TOP 120 COUNTDOWN FOR 2011
Rivals.com has us at #5, ahead of Andrew Luck and Stanford.
Rivals.com 2011 Top 100 Players Countdown
Moore #9. Interesting how they add this tidbit only to Moore's description:
"We continue our countdown of the top 100 players in the nation today. 'Top' doesn't necessarily mean the most pro potential or even the most talent. Instead, it's a mix of what the player has accomplished and how we think the player will do this season. But production does trump potential."
(pictured above, Nate Potter OT Boise State)
I'm trying to figure out what exactly the "straps" are for on Nate's biceps. It looks as though they attach to his shoulder pads, but I can't figure out the purpose. . . Anyone care to enlighten me?
Report: Boise State scuttles Mountain West expansion effort
Supposedly we're the reason MWC did not expand further. I actually like Murph's POV on this:
"The Mountain West's No. 1 priority has been earning automatic-qualifier BCS status. The league has a decent chance to earn an AQ waiver for the next two years after this season. Why dilute the league for $5 million and risk losing a chance for the big AQ money?"
Looking ahead to 2011-12: Ranking the NHL’s top right wingers
#16 on this list makes me sad still. I miss CGDS:
"16. Chris Stewart, St. Louis Blues: Scored 15 goals in 26 games after being traded to the Blues, this blossoming power forward is scratching the surface of his potential."
Rivals.com 2011 Top 100 Players Countdown
Billy Winn is in at #37, ahead of the Muscle Hamster at #56. Bets on who else lands in the top 36? Where will Kellen be ranked?
All I want for my birthday. . .
Is a win in over the Ducks.
Since the Nordiques moved to Colorado in that wonderful Cup-winning, Roy-aquiring year, I've been an avid fan on each and every Avalanche player to don the snow covered A (except, of course, for Darius Kasparaitis). I know we're in Tank Mode, and I'm all for that as it's good for the rebuilding process (Just ask the Broncos, assuming there's a draft this year). But I have a wonderful girlfriend who got me two of the greatest presents ever: A Stastny unipron and 3rd row tickets for Monday's game in Anaheim, right on the top of the circles. We have our hotel booked, we leaving Boise, ID on Saturday morning (looooong drive), and will be staying all week. I'd love to see Dutchy rock the place. Boods or Elliott stand on his head. EJ lay someone out. Duke school whomever's in net. And Footer one last time. I really wish I could have seen CGDS play, never got that chance.
I know, it's asking a lot. Just getting to see them will be awesome. But it'd be even more awesome to have them win so me and the lady don't feel too awkward in our Stastny/Roy jerseys in a sea of birds.
Oh, and to Mark Olver, I hope you get your first NHL goal while I'm there. It's been a long time since you were in Boise, and since we played P.A.L. Bantams, I'm glad you made it to the show.
The Colorado Avalanche might be the most underrated team in the NHL right now
Some props, makes me all ooey-gooey inside.
Heisman Candidate Patrick Peterson: Inflated numbers?
Is it just me, or is the "Total Tackles" number misleading?

More bad publicity?
Kovie to the Devils
A little more detail on the reported deals offered, and no mention of Colorado throwing him a bone. Sad.
