We were lost.
We wandered, lonely and forlorn. Unsure of where to place our faith and scared for what the future might hold. When suddenly, as if as an answer to unprayed prayers, came a light from the void.

This heavenly creature descended upon us in our desolation and imparted on us the two commandments:

1) Win some shit.
2) Don’t give fucks.

And rightfully we placed this man, this Saint of MCM, at the head of our table and in the place of great respect at our feasts and our festivals.

The Titans should chase Dwight Freeney

Get permission to negotiate with him in advance of the swap, and draw up a three- or four-year deal for him. Then, as you play the game, be willing to give up No. 20 this year -- or your first-round pick next season, if you’re certain you will be better and it will be a worse pick. Freeney is worth the 20th pick and big money, provided you can strike a contract deal. That’s a move that would amount to the Titans saying they are about right now, not 2014. That’s when a first-round defensive end picked at the end of April will likely be ready to be a consistent factor – if he emerges as a top-level pass-rusher at all. This is not a great defensive end class. The odds are against getting an immediate impact rusher at No. 20. Meanwhile Freeney is a matchup nightmare, whose spin move and quickness are incredibly difficult to slow. He’ll always draw a double, making life easier on everyone on the line. ***PULL THE F-IN TRIGGER!!!!!!!111111

David Climer: Titans often get their timing right on free agents

Say what you will about the Titans, but they usually get this right. They tend not to throw bad money after good. Seldom have the Titans let free agents leave and watched them make major impacts elsewhere. The classic example is Albert Haynesworth, who exited in ’09 to a seven-year, $100 million contract with the Redskins but hasn’t broken a sweat since. Washington admitted its mistake after two seasons in which it paid $35.6 million. After stops at New England and Tampa Bay, he’s back on the free-agent market, albeit at a much lower asking price. And as much as the Titans could use help at defensive tackle, Haynesworth is not on their radar. That ship has sailed. Yes, 2011 free agent Jason Babin had 18 sacks for the Eagles while the Titans had a grand total of 28, second-worst in the NFL. But Babin is an undersized defensive end that didn’t fit in the Titans’ scheme. He is a skilled speed-rusher but is a liability against the run. Likewise, middle linebacker Stephen Tulloch had a solid season for Detroit, but the Titans are fine with Colin McCarthy, who has youth on his side. ***I've been saying the same thing for a while now. Titans are typically pretty good at realizing when the right time to walk away from someone is. Nothing is different about C.Finn

Football Outsiders ranks Michael Griffin as one of the three worst uses of the franchise tag

Rivers McCown of Football Outsiders ranks Michael Griffin as one of the three worst uses of the franchise tag: "The decision not to franchise Cortland Finnegan, who led all starting cornerbacks in our game charting project in yards per attempt allowed at 4.3, is silly on its face. To franchise one of the most inconsistent safeties in the NFL instead makes it ludicrous. Griffin may have multiple Pro Bowl appearances, but he's also been completely unreliable in the deep safety role over the course of his career. The fact that the safety franchise tender is only $6.2 million means that the Titans aren't exactly overpaying for Griffin's services, but to let Finnegan hit unrestricted free agency without a concrete offer is a little baffling given their respective value to the team." ***It's part of the paid insider, but they are saying we should have used the franchise tag on C.Finn... clearly the sides are far apart on whether or not either of them wants to stay on the Titans. I don't think it was a money thing anymore, I think the FO has moved on from ol' Finny.

New Orleans case puts scrutiny on NFL bounty pay

Merriman, a three-time Pro Bowler, claims he was intentionally injured in 2007 while with the San Diego Chargers. in retaliation for hitting Tennessee quarterback Vince Young after a handoff. Merriman hasn't been the same dominating player since the knee injury. "Why is this a big deal now? Bounties been going on forever," Merriman tweeted. *** He's still complaining about that...? His cheap shot was what caused Merriman to get targeted in the first place. Go somewhere else Merriman.

Titans talking long-term deals with Bailey, Shaw

The Titans have had conversations with linebacker Patrick Bailey about a long-term contract, according to his agent Dr. D.S. Ping. "I am always optimistic," Ping said. "Tennessee is a team that likes to take care of its ball players, and Patrick is happy with Tennessee. We’ll see." ***Nice

Titans hire Jonathan Gannon as quality control coach

The Titans have hired Jonathan Gannon to serve as the team’s defensive quality control coach. With the hire, former defensive quality control coach Arthur Smith will move to offensive quality control coach. Smith will fill the void left by Charles London, who left the Titans to become Penn State’s running backs coach in January. Gannon spent the last three seasons as a scout for the St. Louis Rams. He’s served as a defensive quality control coach once before, with Atlanta in 2007. ***SUPER BOWL HERE WE COME!

Titans Name Kaczor Assistant Offensive Line Coach

The Tennessee Titans named Nate Kaczor Assistant Offensive Line coach. Kaczor joins the Titans after spending four seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars as Assistant Special Teams coach. He replaces Art Valero, who left the coaching staff earlier this month. *** cool?

Titans Add Two to Coaching Staff

The Tennessee Titans named Keith Millard Defensive Assistant/Pass Rush Specialist and Steve Brown Assistant Secondary Coach. ***Apparently no one told me they were added until MCM radio last night... but they will save us all.

Why We Scapegoat

Because Billy Cundiff exists, Ravens fans don't have to come to terms with the fact that one of the best rushing teams ceded the turf to one of the worst. Or that they could only turn three New England turnovers into six points. Or that their offensive line turned to soggy swiss cheese at the merest whiff of Vince Wilfork. Because Kyle Williams exists, 49ers fans don't have to grasp that their offense went 1-for-13 on third down, the one being a pointless hail mary at the end of regulation. Or that they all but gave up after halftime on what had been an effective run game. Or that the vaunted San Francisco D didn't force a single turnover, and had no answer for Victor Cruz. *** Cold. Hard. Facts.

Joe Paterno died Sunday at a State College, Pa. - he was 85.

Truly great leaders are measured by the lives they reached, the people they motivated and the legacy of their lesson that can extend for years to come, like ripples from a skipped stone across an endless lake. For Joe Paterno, the impact is incalculable, the people he connected with extending far beyond the players he coached for 62 years at Penn State, the last 46 as head football coach. Paterno always tried to be the giant who walked among the everyman both in the school’s greatest moments and, it turns out, in its worst. Paterno died Sunday at a State College, Pa., hospital, suffering in his final days from lung cancer, broken bones and the fallout of a horrific scandal that not only cost him his job, but also his trademark vigor and a portion of his good name. He was 85 years old. ***wow

Titans could lean toward defense with first-round pick

"I’m doing some paraphrasing here, but Munchak said the Titans might well look toward the defensive side of the ball in the first round, trying to find a "difference maker." That would make sense, considering the Titans finished second-to-last in the league in sacks per pass attempt last season and tied for eighth-to-last in interceptions. Here’s what some of the early mock drafts predict for the Titans in the first round: USC DE Nick Perry (Sports Illustrated) Nebraska CB Alfonzo Dennard (Sporting News) Michigan State DT Jerel Worthy (CBS Sports’ Dane Brugler) South Carolina OLB Melvin Ingram (CBS Sports’ Rob Rang). Munchak also said he could see the Titans taking an offensive lineman as early as the second or third round, since they haven’t focused on that area in the draft for the past few years." **Sounds about right!

On the Titans' special teams

A new NFL single-season record for gross punting yards was set Sunday, and Kern did his part: He averaged 47.7 gross yards and 45.8 net yards, with four of his six punts were downed inside the 20-yard line. **Kern and Akimbo RobbyB are Mega!

Don't expect Titans to walk away from CJ

Indications from inside Tennessee headquarters are the Titans will make it clear to Johnson that they expect better, but that there will be no serious consideration of cutting him to save the guarantees. ***Now CJ needs to hold up his end of the bargain.

Cam Newton Blames JaMarcus Russell And Vince Young For The Disrespect He Gets

"I can't sit up here and look at it like, oh man, my critics are racist," Newton says. "I blame JaMarcus Russell and to some degree Vince Young. If you have the opportunity to make that kind of money doing something you love to do, why would you screw it up? I'm trying to be a trailblazer. If Baylor's Robert Griffin decides to come out, I want people to say 'He can be the next Cam Newton' instead of 'He's gonna be the next JaMarcus Russell.'" ***Nice, I like this kid.

Titans' Matt Hasselbeck OK mentoring the new guy

As Matt Hasselbeck sees it, mentoring the Titans rookie quarterback, Jake Locker, is just part of his job. After all, 13 years ago when Hasselbeck was a rookie, there were older quarterbacks who did the same for him. Even more recently, as he learned to be a starter when the Seattle Seahawks signed him in 2001, veterans helped him. "I just think there is, when you’re talking about the good guys in the NFL, the good guys at quarterback, they just look out for one another and there is a special bond there," Hasselbeck said. "I’m just in every way, just trying to repay that to every young quarterback that I’ve come in contact with." *** This is such a breath of fresh air to see... This is why I still believe in Thor's plan.

Mario Williams and the franchise tag

"If it comes to [a franchise tag], then so be it," Williams said. "I’m open to whatever, we’ll discuss that. I understand the way things work with salary caps and so forth. Whatever could help the team out, me and my agent will look at every option and go through that. **Wow. I wish C.Finn. would be dealing his situation with the same attitude. - Probably will never happen, but who would be apposed to bring Mario Williams in?... because, F-yes we should.

And this should have been the Tennessee Titans’ time.

Think about it. Tennessee drafted a game-changing defensive player in the first round in 2005. The next year, it used its top pick on the apparent quarterback of the future. Had things gone according to plan, Pacman Jones and Vince Young would be in the prime of their careers and the Titans would not be in the midst of the franchise’s most significant reshaping of its Nashville era. **This sucks to think about...
