The 'Boys are supposedly interested in signing Ray Lewis if he makes it to the open market this offseason.

Linkage: Ray Ray Rumor

Kind of contradicted on this move myself. I seem to remember Ray complaining about the 3-4 when he last played in the scheme. On the other hand, I think Ray could do wonders for this team's mental make-up. The toughness he brings to a unit is much-needed. I still think he can play at a higher level than most ILBs.

I guess I worry most about him not fitting into our scheme. That's a lot of dough for a 3-4 ILB.

Thoughts?

Are 'disciplinarians' proven winners, or overrated?

Boyz and I were having this debate a few posts ago, and I didn't want this discussion to get lost in the 'Pacman Shuffle,' becuase I think it's a really interesting topic, and one that is sure to stir-up a lot of interesting debate.

I'm of the opinion that disciplinarians make the best head coaches; I think there's overwhelming evidence to support that.

Part of that evidence--I believe--can be found when looking at past Super Bowl-winning head coaches.

Below is my list of Super Bowl-winning head coaches who--in my view--were disciplinarians.

I'd love to hear everyone's input, cuz I'm sure everyone's list/opinion will be different.

So tear it up, add to it, call it the dumbest thing you've ever seen--but at the very least, let's discuss!

My list of “disciplinarians” that have one Super Bowls:

V. Lombardi (2)
H. Stram
T. Landry (2)
D. Shula (2)
C. Noll (4)
B. Walsh (3)
J. Gibbs (3)
M. Ditka
B. Parcells (2)
Jimmy Johnson (2)
M. Holmgren
M. Shannahan (2)
B. Belicheck (3)
J. Gruden
B. Cowher
T. Coughlin

So in my opinion, that’s 31 Super Bowls wins out of 42 Super Bowls--that's the overwhelming evidence I spoke about above.

I’m sure yours will be much different, so let’s see it!

I Really Liked this guy coming out of Florida. If I remember correctly , he flashed 4.3 speed at the combine. I believe he's over 6', too.

I'm stunned he got released. I realize he's coming off (I believe) an ACL injury, but there's obviously something more I don't know about.

Coming out of college, he was sort of like a combination of Austin, Stanback & Hurd: very fast, good hands and decent size.

I sure wouldn't mind the Cowboys taking a look at this guy. What do you guys think?

From the Niner Insider:

ALLEN TO COWBOYS?: I just got an e-mail to from a league source saying that former 49ers guard Larry Allen is about to sign in Dallas. Interesting.

Another NFL source said he might be signing just to retire as a Cowboy.

Hard to believe, cuz I was just wondering about his availability. Then I quickly dimissed the thought as I thought it was too far-fetched.

What do you guys think?

Joe Horn to Da Boys?

From Rotoworld.com:

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that the Cowboys are keeping close tabs on Joe Horn's situation in Atlanta.

Schefter says Horn has become "plan 1A" for Dallas if Terry Glenn doesn't sign his injury waiver and the Cowboys could send Atlanta a late-round pick. There's a pretty good chance that Horn won't make the Falcons, but the Cowboys are ready to win now and would probably part with the pick to get him in their offense as soon as possible. A Horn acquisition would cut heavily into Miles Austin or Sam Hurd's chances of being a fantasy sleeper.

Sorry if this has already been posted.

From the DMN:

Instead of ending the three-day minicamp with an hour-long practice, Phillips made it family day at Valley Ranch.

Players reported for meetings at 11:45 a.m., then had a picnic with family members as the Cowboys concluded their organized on-field workouts before training camp begins next month in Oxnard, Calif.

Here we go again...A picnic?! Go out to lunch, something, anything but a picnic...lol

Is it any wonder why this team lacks a killer instinct?

L. Neal a possibility?

From Rotoworld.com:

Free agent Lorenzo Neal is hoping to latch on with either the Cowboys, Steelers, or Broncos.

Neal, 37, may need to take a deal for the minimum to play another season. He's coming off a broken leg and no longer does more than lead block.

I can't understand why the Cowboys haven't pursued this option yet, especially when you consider that he'll likely be playing for the veteran minimum. I've liked what I've seen out of Cricket Anderson too, but he's certainly no Lorenzo Neal, that's for sure. I don't think it's a coincidence that the last 4 (different) RBs to run behind him have gained over 1,000 yards.

As long as that leg is healthy, I'd love for the Cowboys to sign him.

Thoughts?

FA Wishlists?

Well, count me in the camp for liking the Flozell signing. No matter how long we think Romo will be around, there's no denying our window to win a SB is at hand; these opportunities are rare and fleeting, and need to be seized. While not impossible, trying to win a SB with an unproven 3rd- or 4th-round draft pick at LT is both extremely difficult and risky. To me, the Romo extension demanded Flo be re-signed. A literal protection of investment by da JJ. I'm one of his biggest haters as a GM, but I applaud JJ the owner for this shrewd move. I gotta think Flo gets WAY more than 15 mil guaranteed on the open market.

Now, on the to the Free Agent Wishlists!

By my estimation, the Cowboys had 12-15 million to play with before tendering/signing MB3, Flo & Canty. While this is a 'wish' list, I think we should keep the cap in mind for obvious reasons.

When I compiled this list, I used the 1st & 3rd round tender I thought the Boys should use to calculate MB3's '08 cap hit, the 1st round tender I thought was appropriate for Canty, and with the news of Flo's re-signing fresh off the presses, I'm now taking a swinging-guess at Flo's '08 cap hit.

Listed in order of priority

'08 cap-hit in bold

M. Barber, RB (Dal) 2.5M

F. Adams, LT (Dal) 4.5M

K. Hamlin, FS (Dal) 4M

C. Canty, DE (Dal) 2M

Mewelde Moore, RB (Min) 1.5M

And that'll do it, as the above add-up to 14M by my count, and I'm not even sure if the Boys have that much.

Re-signing MB3, Flo & Canty were relative no-brainers.

But I'd REALLY like us to get our hands that Moore kid out of Minnesota. The quintessential 3rd down back: catches the ball well, operates well in space, and is surprisingly effective running between the tackles. He's a little smallish for pass protection, but capable. Personally, I think this guy is extremely underrated, especially since AD's arrival in Minny. He was VERY productive as a rookie during Moss' last year in Minny when called upon due to injuries to the other RBs. If you can stretch the field like we can/Minny did then, he can be very effective.

Assuming the Cowboys have some cap space left, who would you guys like to see the Cowboys sign?

Did you guys have a wishlist last year? If so, post it! Here was mine from last year:

by Starred4Life on Thu Feb 08, 2007 at 10:08:19 AM CDT

**FREE AGENTS*

Ken Hamlin, S SEA

Leonard Davis, LT AZ (but I'd like to see him at LG; move the versatile Kosier to RG & CUT Rivera...btw, is he still willing to give back that signing bonus????)

Josh Brown, K SEA

Andre Gurode, C DAL

Marc Colombo, RT DAL

Thought this was interesting, and might provoke some discussion:

FoxSports.com's John Czarnecki writes that Randy Moss and the Patriots aren't really close on a new contract.

The Czar is known for some off the wall stuff, but this makes enough sense. Patriots reportedly believe that Moss will give them a chance to match any offer. It's uncertain who might go after Moss, but Denver and Dallas have been mentioned.

Source: http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7...

Now there's a WR who could stretch the field for us!
