Jameis Winston challenges perception that he is 'dumb'

Not sure if anyone saw this article. "The FSU quarterback’s Instagram account is providing plenty of entertainment during the dog days of summer. Several days after recording himself completing a pass about 25 yards downfield to, well, himself, Winston introduced the world to the "Boom Boom room." The room, which appears to be in his childhood home of Bessemer (Ala.), is adorned with his many awards and achievements. Winston comes off as slightly agitated during the fourth video. His academic accomplishments have been well documented, but Winston’s intelligence has still come into question, with the most notable example coming after the national championship game." I would like to see FSU do more promotion of his academic achievements to give fans a more well rounded picture that's he's not just athletic and controversial.

High school to honor Jameis Winston

Florida State Seminoles quarterback Jameis Winston, less than two years removed from finishing his senior year, will have his No. 8 jersey retired by Hueytown (Ala.) High School this summer, according to a report. espn.com

FSU by the week: A look at the 'Noles' 2013 opponents -- Pittsburgh

Can FSU claim its second consecutive ACC title? Can it reach the national championship game? Are 12 wins or more in the cards this year? The answers to those questions rest in part in the Seminoles' schedule.

Detroit Lions defensive lineman Andre Fluellen is mourning the loss of his father

Detroit Lions defensive lineman Andre Fluellen is mourning the loss of his father, Rev. Charles Fluellen, after he complained of chest pains and lost consciousness at the "Pastors vs. Politicians" game in Cartersville, Ga. He was pronounced dead later that day. Sad news for a former FSU player

FSU's hidden gem, Menelik Watson

Here's a great story about Menelik Watson. Tells a lot about his twisting journey to becoming an FBS recruit. Apparently fell in love with FSU when a friend brought him to the BYU-FSU game in Doak. Trickett flew out to visit Watson at Saddleback on Dec. 1 and offered him a scholarship on the spot. "He walked in and I said, 'Holy hell, that guy is big,'" Trickett said. "Jimbo [Fisher] asked me what he looked like, and I told him, 'If you were to draw up a [dream] lineman, that's what he looks like. I've never coached a guy who was 320 pounds and moved like he did on tape."

Let's vote Dustin Hopkins #1 for Groza award

He's a top finalist and the one with the most fan votes is given a vote towards winning the award. Let's do this Seminoles! " Fan votes will count toward naming the winner of the Lou Groza Award. Those interested should visit www.lougrozaaward.com and cast a vote for their favorite among the three finalists selected by the national panel of voters. The finalist who receives the greatest total of fan votes will be given one vote on the final ballot. One vote can make a difference in the final outcome so fans are encouraged to participate. "

Big East commish reaches out to Big 12, ACC - wants to talk alignment

Big East Commissioner John Marinatto says he has been in constant contact with Dan Beebe of the Big 12 and John Swofford of the Atlantic Coast Conference in recent days and has suggested the three meet to discuss conference realignment.

Son's rare illness inspires Fisher family

This is a nice little ESPN piece about Ethan and his illness. The best part of the whole article: "Ethan shows no obvious signs of having the disease. He's an active, athletic little boy, who greets visitors to the family's home with a smile and bubbling personality. He played baseball this summer on a 7- and 8-year old team and was the team's third-leading hitter. He spends most afternoons playing Whiffle ball in the front yard or swimming in the family's pool."

Four BCS commissioners made $1M

"Four of college football's six powerhouse conferences paid their top executives $1 million or more, an Associated Press analysis of tax records shows, far eclipsing the compensation of most university presidents." ACC's Swofford was second highest ($1.1 million) behind only Big Ten commissioner.

Signing day just ended, but teams are already starting to build their 2012 classes

"Fresh off landing the No. 1 recruiting class in the country, FSU assistant coach James Coley on Thursday tweeted "Goodmorning class of 2012, today it begins. FEAR THE SPEAR!!!!!" Yes, recruiting has become a year-round process and 2012 boards are already assembled at programs all over the country." FSU becoming the posterboy of CFB recruiting

Here is a look at which schools loaded up at specific positions.

FSU has top RB and DB class. Should have top OL class but I guess ESPN wanted to spread it around a little " Downhill power is coming to Tallahassee."

James Wilder's on a mission

Saw this on ESPN. Thought it was good, and didn't want it to get lost in the recruiting thread. "I want to be the hammer of the school, the hammer of the team."

FSU's Hudson wins Jacobs Blocking Trophy

Florida State’s Rodney Hudson has been awarded the 2010 Jacobs Blocking Trophy, the ACC announced Sunday. Hudson, who also won the award in 2009, becomes one of just 11 players in ACC history to be a two-time recipient of the Jacobs Trophy.
