Could it be...the Steeler Defensive scheme is evolving??
That Dick LeBeau and Mike Tomlin have re-tooled the schemes after the Super Bowl passing carnage, and the lads are just now getting used to it? The Steelers are near the top in pass defense thus far this season. They are near the bottom in run defense. Timmons has made mention that things will get better once the guys have gotten used to the schemes.
Say what you will about Tomlin, but he corrects the flaws once they surface. It might well be the new schemes coupled with the lack of stellar D-Line play has taken an overall toll on the effectiveness of the Dee?
If the Steelers cover the 3.5 point spread
the NFL is fixed if the Steelers cover the 3.5 point spread against the Titans...
there is absolutely no way Pittsburgh can do that...unless the one suspect position has thrown the Baltimore and Houston games. With all the starters out (Harrison, Smith, Mendenhall, Moore and any of the stiffs on the O-Line), this team could not possibly beat the Titans. If they do win and it's a result of the stellar play of the one suspect player, then I will be convinced the NFL is infiltrated by the gambling establishment. Take that however you want....
As bad as it looks...
There's got to be a silver lining. The Patriots were thoroughly outplayed by the Cleveland Browns a week before - Peyton Hillis had a whopping 186 yards against that Pat defense. They show up at Heinz and make the Steelers look like Woodlands High. The worst beating in the last twenty years when the reason for defeat was not turnovers.
There was a total mismatch in schemes and level of execution. Know why?
Belichek is a master motivator and a great preparer. Apart from the game plan, he used a couple of news items to fire up the Pats. Some bright spark in Pittsburgh media decided to bring up Spygate last week and wondered if the Steelers were robbed of several Super Bowl appearances because Belichek orchestrated theft of signals from Dick Lebeau. The reporter even asked Lebeau what he thought and Dick suggested by his response he thought there was skullduggery. Bill suggested to Brady that the Steelers felt that he cheated his way to those Super Bowls, and of course Brady took it the way it was intended. He was jacked all night with the commentators wondering when was the last time they saw him like that.
Additionally, did Lebeau revise his signals? Could the Pats have used old documentation on Lebeau to call the offensive plays on Sunday? It certainly looked that way, didn't it? Brady had the correct plays called everytime.
Anyway, the point is, as bad as the Pats were last week, they were great this week.
Why can't the Steelers rebound in a similar fashion?
Pittsburgh changes football team name
Clueless fans force name change
We need a draft like 1987
One draft can make or break a team
With the 1st pick, the Stillers select..
Best potential
Bold Free Agent signings
Ok folks...
What was a major reason your Steelers faltered in 2009? Troy Polamalu being out, you say? The replacement safeties did not step up?
Here's a prudent signing - Darren Sharper. For 2 years. Big play ability. Then you draft a safety, who learns from two of the best, Troy and Sharper. What's the Sharper connection? Didn't Tomlin work with him in Minnesota?
You can probably pay him more than the Saints can afford, with that 8 mil they're owing to Reggie Bush and all.
Then, you're not done - you pay back the Arizona Cardinals for ripping off B-Mac last year by signing Antrel Rolle, the free agent corner.
Then you draft the best player available in each round. Guess what? You'll be in the Super Bowl again.
Bengals & Eagles disappoint - Steeler outlook
How can the Jets win in Cinci??? The Bengals should really pack it in....
The Steelers would have represented much better
The Eagles too are over...changes needed there...coach and QB need to go
The Steelers need to devote the entire draft to defensive talent except for a 3rd round RB (remember the Woodson draft? and the others that came with it? )
Beleive it or not, Limas Sweed will be great...let's see how our coaches bring him back
Showing 1 - 10 of 10
