MLB statistics service announced today that it will terminate the Triples counting stat beginning in the 2010 season. An unnamed source gave this rationale: "If the Royals lead the league in any offensive category, it is (by definition) an insignificant statistic."

to all who care, and that may just be us few, proud , and brave....The delusion of competing for the pennant this year is long passed. Thus the only thing left to compete for is the future. So, who on this team is our future---Gordon, Butler, DeJesus, Grienke, Hoch, Kila, Callaspo? Maybe Teahen; maybe not. But is Meche or Soria in our plans for 2012? Soria is useless to a team who is never in a game in the ninth and he may yet be the solid gold chip that we could get true value for. WTF. Trade deadline: Trade Meche and Soria for solid CF, SS, and RF prospects who can actually play defense and have an offensive upside. The Bourbon may be talking, but is there some merit in this line of thinking?

Farnsworth ready for higher leverage relief usage? Let's talk about this. Greater use of his non-fastball pitches (cutter,slider, change) made him look pretty effective today. Considering the abysmal performance of Ponson yesterday and HoRam today, maybe the assignments of the relief roles are due reassessment. Maybe it's time for Farnsy to start earning his money.

Chris Gough, KC Metro Sports, was on 810(or 610) radio on my drive home this afternoon and was returning from three weeks down in Surprise. He was talking with one of those afternoon clones (Kietzman or ?) and was asked about Bloomquist. He said that Bloomy was the clubhouse leader w/o question and even had Guillen in check. He added that this Spring there was only one player not on board with the new attitude in the clubhouse and he is now gone---Ross Gload.
