My Fresh top 100
**This is from roughly the first week of May/ middle of May and haven't got around to posting untill now.
I want to post a list before the Rule 4 MLB draft.
I did not list any players that already have exhausted their prospect status or I think will exhaust their status by early/ mid June (draft time). (a call-up in Late May or so, is almost a sure bet for player x to get to 50 IP or 130 AB's if he sticks)
*Kirk Nuiwenhuis is my NL rookie of yr. to date, Go Z. Cozart maybe in the running down the line, *Darvish and Cespedes look like potentially decent A.L. Choices, but may go with Milone/Drabek/Smyly/Reed. Its early. How about the LaHair story for the Cubs?
Miami Marlins Mod #1
Thoughts, ideas, and reports more than welcome as always :)
MiLB 5-6-12
As always please comment/ notify on pitching omissions as there are always TBD's and doubleheaders. Thank you.
Some probables Sunday:
AAA- .... Wily Peralta, Adam Wilk, Terry Doyle, Michael Kirkman, Ethan Martin, Barry Enright (sub 2 era), Oscar Villarreal
Jair Jurrjens, John Lannan also going. & Andy Pettitte also toeing the rubber for N.Y.
AA- .... B.J. Hermsen (outstanding in AA debut 5 days ago) , Robbie Erlin, Noel Arguelles, Trevor Bauer, Brooks Raley, Danny Hultzen, Michael Kickham.
A+ - .... Jesse Biddle, Michael Goodnight, Yordano Ventura, J. Snodgrass, Carlos Martinez VS. Taylor Jungmann, Austin Kirk
A - .... Richie Hebner, Austin Winkler, Raul Alcantara, Kyle Crick, Tyrell Jenkins VS. Michael Jensen, Jason Wheeler.

You like pitchers grading out themselves? Liam, Noah, and Trevor edition.
On the traditional 20-80 scout grading scale. Done pitch by pitch (5).
Well here is an article done by Andrew Pentis of Milb.com and well Liam Hendriks of Perth, Australia.
I can't get enough of it, and have read it a few times. And i have to say I've only seen Hendriks a few times now, but, its pretty much right on give or take a little here with the 65 Changeup hmm. Pretty impressive stuff. The whole article can be found and read here:

my MLB Power Rankings
With the regular season fast approaching I decided I wanted to do a first week Power ranking installment of all 30 MLB teams, being a bit inspired by Fangraphs 2012 Organizational Rankings I will do just a MLB level arrangement. Hopefully I will come out with a new installment every month throughout the regular season.
The Tigers will place very well in the Fangraphs org. rankings no doubt.
FWI, the Twins placed 25th in the overall org. rankings by Fangraphs ahead of Oakland and San Diego behind Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Indians !!!! Something seems a bit off there.

If Oswalt's price tag dwindles would you be behind him waltzing In?
I know its late, its late in the game. Our FA moves and money pool is all but taken care of. We're composed, healthy, focused and energized for the upcoming season. Soley focusing on ST and all the players, aside from just the pitchers and catchers reporting to camp. Our front office thinks we're likely all "tapped out" financially but in the same token seems to feel comfortable with the roster they've assembled and patched up. Sure I'd personally rather spend 75-90 Million a year TOPS then purge over the Century mark. More than a 100 $ Million dollar payroll makes me cringe a bit.
Joel Zumaya is no sure thing, in fact he may not pitch more than a dozen innings of baseball for the Twins in the regular season. The bullpen? I'm not too worried about it, with 97 players in camp this year, i think 1 of Burton, Wise, Bulger, Gray, Thompson could really fill some shoes. Plus, we have so many relief pitchers already in the org. in the AA / AAA levels....Guys like Gutierrez, Burnett, Guerra, Waldrop, Bromberg surely 1 of them will break out.
With a healthy Capps and Perkins leading the way i'm confident if we're winning and things are going Extremely well we'll be able to find another Brian Fuentes at the Trade Deadline in July/ August to give us that extra punch. (and more importantly Perkins some rest)
Where my issue enlies is the starting rotation: Baker, Pavano, Liriano, and Marquis and Blackburn are who they are. More or less they eat innings when healthy, pitch to contact, give up homers but not walks and are comfortable surrendering runs. Its largely the Twins way, and i'm fine with the philoshpy its worked and is proven, even if the game is evolving a bit. But i just don't forsee Liriano being the 2010 version again. At least not any time soon. He seems to have lost a little bit of passion, his fire, and even his youth. He doesn't work out, he doesn't stay in top end shape, he doesn't do the things we need him to do and the person we need him to be well enough. Scott Baker on the other hand is the opposite, but is he durable enough to withstand a 200+ inning season while not losing his affectivness in a post-season series? , its hard to say. Pavano is getting up in age, its well documented he's lost 2 MPH's on his Fastball his K rates are continuing to spiral downward and he can't be the horse at the top end of one's rotation any longer. He's more of a #3 or #4 starter today. Blackburn could bounce back, hopefully in a big way. But Roy Oswalt, 1 season of Roy Oswalt could be a game changer. He's a proven horse, or poney who brings a strikeout rate not present with any of our current starters. Assuming his back doesn't bark up he's a guy even at his advanced age who should front our staff in both quality and quantity of innings pitched. (assuming Pav doesn't go 220 IP again)
If the Twins think Joel Zumaya is a well suited calculated risk for this club, I don't see how Roy Oswalt at less than six or seven million is any different. Especially for 1 season.
I'm not saying I know what he and his agent are asking for in a deal, it was believed to have come down below the $ 9 Million dollar mark and dropping last I read/heard about a month ago.
My mlb mock draft
My over zealous and highly anxious self sat down this last week a little bit each day and compiled this way too early projection of this June's mlb amatuer draft. With a pretty decent ratio of High schoolers to college guys with the younger kids winning out 17 - 14 in round 1. I really like The high school arms this year lead by Walker Weickel and of couse Gioloto. Fried , Smoral and McCullers are probably my next 3 with big senior seasons ahead. I also really like Luke Sims, with upside and big fastballs due next .
Of course, as we all saw last year the draft is a crapshoot for almost all of us, in reality we all thought C Andrew Susac was a lock for the 1st round or early supple. Rd he wasn't. We all sat dazed and confused with what the Rays did with many of their early picks, some of us felt disgusted at the collegiate talent the Red Sox and Tigers picked up in the later rounds that was often times unexpected. + you throw in the 'new' CBA arrangement and...? we'll see what happens, even more chaos and uncertainties? But that is the beauty of it all.
A Look at the top prospects in the A.L. Central
* note i will Star those who could see Major league time in 2012. Some possible impact guys for next year.
Grades that have been given are mainy John Sickles grades with a little bit of my own twist, I think guys that were hurt last year that were solid prospects before I bumped up a bit, also I tried to take his list(s) and form my own based on Baseball America and Baseball prospectus' ranks as well. I kept it to just 11 for each but teams like the Royals would have been easy to go to 20-25 deep.
Royals
1. Michael Montgomery*** -SP ; A-
2. Wil Myers - OF ; A-
3. Bubba Starling - OF ; A-
4. Cheslor Cuthbert -3B ; A- (sort of their version of Miguel Sano but already a level or two higher and may play SS)
5. Jacob Odorizzi*** -SP ; B+
6. John Lamb -SP ; B
7. Christian Colon -SS/2B ; B-
8. Kelvin Herrera*** - RP ; B-
9. Jason Adam - SP ; B-

4. Aaron Hicks - OF ; B (Ft. Myers / New Britian)
5. Joe Benson*** - OF ; B- (Rochester)
6. Liam Hendriks*** - SP ; B- (Rochester/ Minn)
7. Levi Michael - SS ; B- (Beloit?)
8. Kyle Gibson - SP ; B- (Re-habb)
9. Brian Dozier*** - SS/2B ; B- (Rochester)
10. Hudson Boyd - SP ; B- (Elizabethon w/ guys like Kepler, JD Williams and Summers)
11. Chris Parmelee*** - 1B ; B- (Rochester/ Minn)
(other prospects that could impact 2012 are Carlos Gutierrez, Dave Bromberg, Tyler Robertson, Lester Oliveros, Kyle Waldrop, Chris Herrmann and Bobby Lanigan, maybe longshots such as Tom Stuiffbergen and Alex Wimmers as well) I think Oswaldo Arcia is the real deal and could see AA New Britian before the year is out.
Tigers
1. Jacob Turner*** - SP ; A- (one of the top SP prospects in all of baseball to me, not an ace but very good)
2. Nick Castellanos - 3B ; B+
3. Casey Crosby*** - SP ; B
4. Drew Smyly - SP ; B
5. Andy Oliver*** - SP ; B
6. Tyler Collins - OF ; B-
7. James McCann - C ; C+
8. Brian Flynn - SP ; C+
9. Aaron Westlake - 1B ; C+
10. Jay Voss - SP ; C+
11. Daniel Fields - OF ; C+
Indians
1. Francisco Lindor - SS ; B+
2. Dillon Howard - SP ; B-
3. Tony Walters - SS ; B-
4. Jake Sisco - SP ; B-
5. Nick Hagadone*** - RP ; C+
6. Luigi Rodriguez - OF ; C+
7. Scott Barnes*** - SP ; C+
8. Rafael Rodriguez - SS ; C+
9. Felix Sterling - SP ; C+
10. LeVon Washington - OF ; C+

2. Nestor Molina - SP ; B/ B+
3. Trayce Thompson - OF ; B-
4. Tyler Saladino - 3B ; C+
5. Simon Castro*** - SP/RP ; C+ (acquired for Carlos Quentin along with LHP Pedro Hernandez)
6. Jacob Petricka - SP ; C+
7. Hector Santiago - SP ; C+
8. Dylan Axelrod*** - SP/RP ; C+
9. Kevan Smith - C ; C+
10. Erik Johnson - SP ; C+
11. Eduardo Escobar*** - SS ; C+/C
(also acquired SS- Osvaldo Martinez and P -Jhan Martinez from the Marlins for manager Ozzier Gullen)
I placed the teams in order of who i think has the greatest to weakest farm systems in the A.L. Central accounting for both top quality talent and all around depth throughout the minor leagues.
#1 is Kansas City for the 2nd straight year, they lost some key guys: Hosmer, Duffy and Moustakas are now Major Leaguers and they also graduated some relievers like Crow, Coleman and Collins but they still have the best minor leaguers in the conference or lg. and have tons of depth.... I think the only team that comes close to their surplus of depth is the Twins for prospects. I think if the Twins cannot be the biggest competition for the Tigers this upcoming season it could should be the Royals who i have pegged to surpass the Indians sooner than later. Their bullpen has a chance to be special and they're offense is coming along.
#2 is the Minnesota Twins while also weakening a bit from a season ago, they still rank high in general. However, they unlike the Royals, lost guys due to injuries or just poor performances which is never good. Even silly trades like Wilson Ramos and Billy Bullock (the trades were over a year ago) and acquiring guys like Jacobsen, Bargas, and now Turpen have yet to pan out. Gibson and Wimmers had forgettable years for different reasons, and Hicks continues to be an enigma while Arcia and Angel Morales faced injuries throughout the season. Disappointments for Carlos Gutierrez, Scott Diamond and Pat Dean on the mound. While Liam Hendriks, Chris Parmelee, Sano and Rosario flourished.
#3 is the Detroit Tigers
Already boasting the best Major League team, they are probably in the best all-around position in the Central yet again. Even losing DH Victor Martinez for most of if not all of the 2012 season they still should remain the biggest threat to win the pennant. While the majority of the M.L. team is in place and isn't getting any younger TOP prospect and SP Jacob Turner should help the Tigers out in the starting rotation for a good chunk of next year. Turner looks poised beyond his years (only 21 years of age) on the mound and could be the perfect compliment to Justin Verlander in the #2 spot in the rotation ahead of Scherzer, Fister, and Porcello; Which would undoubtedly form the Best rotation in the Central. They also have an interesting assortment of arms that could help out the bullpen or maybe even the rotation if someone goes to the DL.
#4 the Cleveland Indians
Graduating their top 2 guys and trading another set of 2 away from last year. Chisenhall and Kipnis should be the cornerstones of the infield at 3B, and 2B for years to come for the Tribe. What was suprising to me though, was to see them trade their top 2 pitching prospects last year at the deadline to acquire the Rockies Ubaldo Jiminez in Drew Pomeranz LHP and Alex White RHP. Pom has a chance to be a #2 starter for the Rockies and White a #3 o4 #4 both in the short-term and long-term. Jiminez while spetacular when on his game... was really worth those 2 guys? The Indians were the top dog for a while in the Central a year ago and were the main threat to the Tigers pretty much all year long, expect them to be competetive again but with the Carmona visa ID setback and a semi-punchless offense I predict them to finish 4th this coming season.
Well, the rebuilding has only begun for the South Siders... GM Kenny Williams has dealt OF Carlos Quentin to the Padres (Castro and Hernandez) and Closer Sergio Santos to the Blue Jays (Molina). Could Paul Konerko be next? or maybe one of the many Starting pitchers they have on the roster. LHP Mark Buerhle did follow Ozzie Guillen to the Miami Marlins so they do have 1 less Starter. Just like their farm system i predict them to be last in 2012.
While they have quite a bit of depth in the minors at OF and RP they lack any impact bats or Staring pitchers, other than the newly acquired Nestor Molina who is still years away.

BA Royals top 10...Mikey Monty #1

list after the jump...
Jeff Gray the missing Bullpen piece? One of the answers?
The Twins claimed RHP Jeff Gray off-waivers from the pitching rich Seattle Mariners the same day they claimed soft-tossing Lefty Matt Maloney (one of Krivsky's Favorites)
At first, neither player stuck me as anything more than a nice AAA piece for the red wings 2012 team. However, the more i think about it the more i'd be open to Gray over the likes of Alex Burnett or Phil Dumatrait on the Twins 25-man.
Here is an interview done at TCD (twins cities dugout with the right hander)
In the piece, Gray sounds as if he and the orginazation has the confidence to be one of the primary options in the mold of Perkins and Capps.
The 30 year old Gray shows more velocity than Burnett, Dumatrait, Waldrop, MIjares last year and at times even Swarzak.
But it sounds as if his Sinker and Change-Up are his 2 best pitches. Gray has never been the type to miss many bats, but if he can keep the ball in the yard, and hopefully get GB's at a high rate he could be servicable.
stats page (Bill James 2012 prediction.... the outlook is not good)
Eddie Rosario, not Ben Revere, makes move to 2B!
Definately some good news today, I think we can all be strongly behind this decision as fans. The organization has 2 major positions of strength / Depth and personell in 2 and only 2 positions. They are outfield and starting pitching (let me rephrase the 2nd position.... Strikethrowing, low velocity hurling command oriented #3,4,5 starters)
Which is definately not a bad thing, just wish short-stop or thirdbase along with Relief Pitching could be a future strength. In the way Oufield has been the last few seasons. Maybe Sano is a step in the right direction.
Anyways Rosario is the second rated Twins prospect on John Sickles site giving him a "B" grade with "boderline B+ in the commentary" .

The Co - Appy LG MVP's in 2011 Twins Eddie Rosario, and Braves Brandon Drury.
Rosario has a ferocious swing from the left-side and likes to hit the ball out of the park; seemingly every time up, he has one thing on his mind. He has tremendous speed and has shown the ability to put the ball in play regulary. One thing is clear though, as he moves up the system (he'll likely be in the Midwest Lg. next year at Beloit A-ball) He needs to improve his eye at the plate and Strike Out less, or make even more contact!!!
If he can do that, (stike out less) He'll be a potential stud at 2B for the Twins in a few years.
Drawing walks in the way Aaron Hicks and Chris Herrmann have definately wouldn't hurt either.
Predict the BA FSL top 10 (Mon.)
Along similar lines to the predict the Sally Lg post, how about the FSL?
I think so far the Sal and Mdwst Lg are the two strongest. I think the FSL has a chance to be right behind those two.
O . M . G the Rays are in the Bo Sox are out and the Braves collapse
The single greatest night of baseball in the history of the sport.
(I'm sure its not nearly just one man's opinion)
Ironically JJ Hardy played a rather large part in leading the Orioles (HR, and BIG TIME Throw out of Scutaro) to a victory over Boston who led throughout...
Also Minnesota native Dan Johnson was the hero for the Rays hitting a game tying HR in the bottom of the 9th against the Yanks to tie it at 7 a piece. Evan Longoria was the man though, hitting 2 even BIGGER HRs.
Nick Punto played a decent role in leading the Cards over the Astros to avenge the Braves and send them realing.
Wow
top 100 young baseball players (qualifying prospects)
The tricky thing is I probably excluded some guys that may be deserving like Trout, Rizzo ! just so I don't offend anyobody and fair warning. :D

SHS' forward thinking blueprint (#327)
I know there are several people's ideas and assertions on the direction this team is heading in lately, and thats GOOD, I think we have one of the better (not best) Fan bases in Baseball screw the nation and the universe (Sox and Yanks respectivley)
here is my personel heading into S.T. next season.
*the Josh Johnson dream is dead as several officials and sources have kindly let me know thats not likely to happen.
Liam Hendriks called up
Yes thats right, the same pitcher who started the year in New Britian in the Eastern League (AA) at 22 years old, he hadn't pitched an inning above high single A coming into the year, and he now gets his first taste with the Twins.
The Perth, Australian native will join the likes of Luke Hughes as together becoming the first team in MLB history to have a duo (2) or more Aussie's on its active 25 man roster, even if its a silver lining. It is awfully neat to see players come up to the Twins from all parts of the globe, and coming from different walks of life. Arguably top prospect Miguel Sano (my top guy) comes from a very interesting background in the Dominican Republic. While his big league debut is likely years away he is just another one of many example that the Twins have in their organization.
Not sure when Hendriks will make start #1, and believe me its probably not a permanent promotion (he'll likely be in Rochester most of next season) However, really looking forward to seeing a fresh bout of life throwing from the mound, he will pound the strikezone with an assortment of pitches and hopeully keep hitters guessing.
No Hoey fastball here, not really close and thats fine!
GOOD LUCK mate! Oiy and go get 'em

Thome, Kubel also placed on waivers....as they should be
There are probably a few other Twins that have been on the August waivers as well... But only names I could find that can be confirmed.
Twins top 20 post draft
2011 Twins minor leagues as August ends.
Delmon Young is now a Tiger?
Looks like Delmon Young is a Detroit Tiger...
link
Ahhhhh WHAT?
i'm dreaming................................................................................................
PTBL better be Brennan Boesch or something here..... Jacob Turner? Andy Oliver?
better be a good piece
OR I AM DREAMING
How rich is San Diego's system?
With the recent acquistions of Robbie Erlin, Joe Weiland, and a PTBL coming soon from Pittsburgh... You have to think they're in good shape going forward after this season.... They'll likely have a top 5 or certainly 10 pick in next June's draft as well.
Graduates : LHP Corey Luebke, 2B Logan Forsythe, LHP Josh Spence!!! , ? Kyle Blanks....
1. Anthony Rizzo -1B B
2. Casey Kelly -RHP B
3. Robbie Erlin -LHP B (probably could be viewed as "B+" by many)
4. Keyvious Sampson -RHP B
5. Joe Weiland -RHP B
6. Cody Spangenburg ("11 10th overall) -3B/2B B
7. Reymond Fuentes -OF B
8. Jedd Gyorko -3B B
9. James Darnell (*only down this far because he's a COF) B-
10. Donavan Tate -OF B-
11. Joe Ross ('11 25th overall) - RHP B-
12. Jaff Decker -OF/DH/1B (not sure but think they should give 1B a try) B-
13. Juan Oramas -LHP B- (excellet lefty, probably about ready for AAA too)
14. Michael Kelly ("11 suppl. Rd.) C+
15. Simon Castro -RHP (should still end up being Solid bullpen arm) C+
16. Matt Lollis -RHP C+
17. Rymer Liriano -OF C++
18. Blake Tekotte -OF C+
19. Jace Peterson ("11 suppl. Rd.) C+
20. Jonathan Galvez -2B C+ , (ould go with Hunter, Hagerty, Brach, Barbato, Cumberland, or Rincon too)
And I'm sure I'm missing someone. Any suggestions please speak up....and I'll slot 'em in the list.
What a system now!!! - Arizona's, Seattle's , St Louis s systems all took a step forward this year but none larger than San Diego's possibly.... + the Draft definately helped.
Braves, Giants, Red Sox all in on Cuddyer
Boston's Theo Epstein's #1 target is Mets OF Carlos Beltran however, if that asking price is too steep they may look to Cuddyer.
The Giants GM Brian Sabean is currently "working on something much bigger than [Jeff Keppinger]" And speculative sources contend Cuddyer could be the guy.
Braves , to me, are a good fit, GM Frank Wren needs a RH bat and Hunter Pence, Ryan Ludwick, Jeff Francouer, M. Cuddyer, C. Beltran, J. Willingham are probably his top choices... Johnny Gomes (cin.) is another possibility.
Francouer was already a Brave once, so he along with Ludwick are long shots to me...
I wonder if the Twins would target Brandon Beachy or Mike Minor and maybe demand Tyler Pastornicky (AA SS) as the second piece to any deal involving Cuddyer to the Braves?
I'm certain the demands for Cuddyer will remain high, probabably higher than anyone not named Carlos Beltran or Ubaldo Jimenez...... And baseball people, GM's should expect and know that. Likely, the only way Cuddyer will be dealt is if someone blows Smtih, Antony, Ryan and co. away with an offer.
Push comes to shove, I would be in the boat that says Cuddyer will not be traded this deadline. However, if the right deal arises you have to consider you're options and if the Braves would offer up one of Minor, Beachy, Teheran, Delgado along with 1 of their many SS prospects I'd be awfully inclined to think that we would even hisitate to make that deal with Cuddyer's FA status looming this coming off-season.
Also Jason Kubel shall be re-signed for a much cheaper contract than Michael will be.
Keith Law likes all of Aaron Hicks, Oswaldo Arcia & Miguel Sano
