OT: On topic or off?
Allow me to start this post by saying, that although I am an infrequent poster, I read everything on this blog on a daily basis. I enjoy very much the perspectives of everyone here – and if I felt I had anything to add, I would likely post more often. Most of the time, my posts probably “take away” more than they add to the topic.
Anyways, the point I would like to make today is that it seems over the last 3 years that I have been visiting this blog, there have been some changes – notably over this last season. In short: I think we have may have lost our way. It used to be we would post about Cubs baseball, or at least something related to baseball. Recently, fanposts have turned into (what some may call) silly discussions or in some cases, serious discussions that one may think would never occur on a baseball blog. Of course, these types of posts have always occurred, but it seems that they are occurring with greater frequency.
Now look, before you come out “guns a-blazin’” against me, I’m just pointing out a trend I have noticed – WITHOUT judgment. I think you all are a bunch of nice folks, and I feel even better about being a Cubs fan from getting to know you through your comments. I do wonder though, if anyone else has noticed this and if perhaps people feel like we need to get on point. I know it’s the off season, and there is not a lot of news, but there are other sports, is it really necessary to get bogged down in (so many) posts about topics far removed from sports in general?
Again, I’m only wondering if anyone else might be thinking along these lines,. I’ve tried hard to be respectful about this, and I certainly will not think any less of anyone nor change my BCB reading habits if everyone disagrees.
Thanks for your time.

P.S. I’ll be at ST 3/18 – 3/23, be cool to meet up at Diamonds with fellow BCBers that week.
Oh damn is this off topic?

Honoring the other Ernie
As some of you might recall Hall of Fame Broadcaster and long time announcer for the Detroit Tigers Ernie Harwell was diagnosed with cancer earlier this month Link
Tonight the Tigers will Honor Ernie and all of his accomplisments Link - I bet even the WNBB game will have a cut in when he gives his speech (I would hope). Beloved by Tigers fans and really all baseball fans, his voice and style helped shape modern broadcasting.
Anyways here's to one of the greats!

Latest on Corky's exclusion of Henderson
It's weird the writer of this article makes it sound like Corky Simpson is regretful, but then he also makes it sound like he intentionally exlcuded Henderson.
IMO, bringing up Ricky as "self absorbed" really should have no bearing on the vote or suggesting that it makes Corkys exlcusion of him ok.
Not that Corky...worse
Cork Simpson, Hall of Fame sports writer, has just insulted the best leadoff hitter who ever lived - let alone in the live ball era. And, he is the only guy who didn't vote for Henderson. Whether your a fan of Henderson or not his accomplishments cannot be denied. His Vote
"The Big Rock Cubbie Mountain"
There is a pretty strong segment of folks here that live in an alternate Cubs universe.
I got to thinking about this with regard to todays posts about trades that are just hopes and dreams. Seems like thats the fuel that many people live on...Thanks to Al and everybody here for inspiring me.
DISCLAIMER: This is likely the wrong place for this type of thing, but it did not fit the Fanshots definition (As this is not a link, rather a original work) so I’m posting it. For which I will likely be reprimanded, made fun of, and otherwise embarrassed back into my cave, where I will in time post comments hoping to be ignored.
