Rock Chalk Talk Whats up Todd?

If you watched the game yesterday, you saw something far scarier than just a loss to OU. KU fans saw the fall of one of their gods. Todd Reesing was proven to be just a mere mortal. In my few years following Kansas football, I have never seen Reesing have a bad game. I have seen average games, and just ok games, but never downright awful games.

Rock Chalk Talk Best in the country?

In the preseason, there was much talk about the combination of Dezmon Briscoe and Kerry Meier being one of the best wide receiver combos in the nation. In the two lists I saw, they were listed at second, which is pretty respectable.

In another list, I saw Reesing to Meier listed as the second best QB-Receiver connection, with only Colt McCoy to Jordan Shipley above them.

Now seven weeks into the season, I feel these ratings are insulting. There is no doubt in my mind that they deserve better. Michael Floyd is injured, so there goes the Golden Tate/Michael Floyd combination. As for Shipley and Mccoy, OU did a fine job of shutting them down last game.

Windy City Gridiron Orlando Pace jokes

I know you all have got em, and I want to hear em. How bad is Pace? You got puns? You got jabs at his age? Keep it relatively clean (or not) and keep it clever.

Everybody makes mistakes, but Orlando Pace is not everybody. No excuses bud. It just plain looked like he fell over on that play. And it was after a timeout for chrissake. How do you not know the snap count after a timeout?

Rock Chalk Talk KU vs OU

For the record, I am just as disappointed about the CU game as the rest of you. I don't even know what I was most frustrated with. It might have been the  KU turnovers, the porous defense, or the fact that Tyler Hansen could scramble almost as well as Todd Reesing. But the point is, I am moving on, and so should the rest of you.

There is a humongous game coming up on Saturday, one that could catapult the Hawks back into the spotlight. While OU has lost is BCS ranking ( or more appropriately, never gained one), they still have the name recognition that poll voters love. Their defense looked solid against UT last weekend, but with the way our offense has been playing, I don't know many teams that could stop the passing onslaught that Reesing has unleashed on teams. Briscoe leads the nation in yards per game, and Meier is second in receptions. To have two receivers like that on one team is phenomenal.

Enough about offense however. Its the defense that everyone is worried about. Well, I am here to calm your fears. KU will be able to stop OU. Their only big game wideout is Broyles, and he is limited after his injury. Cover him well, and where else can Landry Jones go? His line is young, and with KU's decent front four, they should get enough pressure to force him into making bad decisions. If he tries to hand the ball off, the young O-Line and KU's still average D-Line should prevent any big gains.

This game will come down to OU's secondary vs. KU's passing attack. Reesing will be under pressure all night, but I trust him to make big plays on the run, as he has always done in the past. The X-Factor in this game will be Jake Sharp. If he gets any sort of running room whatsoever, Reesing gets infinitely more time to throw, and the Offense gets alot more options. So Jake Sharp, you better show up. It would make this game alot easier to win.
