Brodeur on John Carlson’s goal, which tied game at 1-1 in first: "I was screened a bit, but it was far out. I should have had a better look at it. I just kind of lost it a sea of red there (almost all of the fans wear red shirts at Caps’ home games). I was talking to (Johan Hedberg) that any time they shot the puck high it was a big adventure out there because we’re not used to playing in a building like that. It’s a goal that I’d like to have back, that’s for sure."

Japers' Rink Wooden sticks for the PK?

OK, maybe not a return to wooden sticks, but something clearly has to be done to address situations where a 5-4 situation becomes an unwieldly 5-3 due to a penalty killer having his stick broken.

Twice this happened to the Capitals in Game 2, and it has become a regular occurance throughout the NHL.

Similar to golf, hockey players should have different sticks for different situations.  The main goals on the penalty kill are to win faceoffs, block shots, and clear pucks - why not design specialty PK sticks to meet these functions?

Keep the flexible sticks for regular play and the powerplay, but for the penalty kill, use a reinforced stick that is stronger and less likely to break.
