Mile High Hockey Mueller skating again

Via the Denver Post (via Rotoworld)

Avalanche winger Peter Mueller, a restricted free agent who remains unsigned four weeks before the opening of training camp, is participating in drills at the University of Denver's pro camp this week.

Muller said Thursday he has recovered from the concussion that kept him out of a first- round playoff series against the San Jose Sharks.

"It's going really good," Mueller said at DU's Ritchie Center. "Getting out there with more people obviously helps. It's looking about 100 percent now. It's pretty much all gone, all over with."

Mueller said he expected to be cleared for contact soon.

"We have to run a few things past the doctors, then it will be good to go," he said.

Mueller also made it clear he expects to re-sign with Colorado by the opening of training camp.

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed left-winger Chris Durno to a one-year contract.

The six-foot-four 205-pounder had four goals and eight points in 41 games with the Colorado Avalanche last season. He played 43 games with the Avs the previous two seasons.

Mile High Hockey Avs beat Wings even in a Twitter war

Clipboard01_medium

via i21.photobucket.com

Yes, it is the dredges of the summer months already, but hey - in a twitter icon war, the Avalanche consistently beat the wings. Kind of a fun little site to kill a little bit of time - and you don't have to have a twitter account to play with it. The site is http://dw.sipo.jp/ and you just have to enter some twitter IDs to watch the fun. My best guess is color = speed and followers = power, but that's all I've got.

Give it a shot with the Avs = http://dw.sipo.jp/#t=NHL_Avalanche_

Mile High Hockey "Mission Accomplished" Video

Anyone want my "Mission Accomplished" Video. We are getting rid of our VCR and this will have no use for me. It's in good shape. Yes, it is VHS. Just something to cover the shipping is all I'd ask.

I need more words, uh, ok. Words words words. 25 more words? Holy crap! I really don't have much more to say other than, I have a VHS video that I'd like to "give" away -- all I'm asking for is something to cover shipping it. Really, that's all I've got. If this sounds good to you, leave a comment here.

Mile High Hockey Dude, Weak

So I'm recording the game last night on the TiVo to watch when I get home. It's sometime in the middle of the third period, so I rewind to the start of the game and I see this on my screen:

Sure, it is the preview of Center Ice, but that's pretty weak. I was able to join the game about 1 hour behind 'live'. That's pretty lame NHL & TiVo.

Also, with the TiVo I've got cable cards so buying Center Ice isn't an option (only have 1-way cards around here). Seeing this just makes me even "happier" I will be saving $160 bucks again this year.

Mile High Hockey Rumor says Roy offered coaching job

From Rotoworld via the Denver post:

According to several sources close to him, Patrick Roy has been offered the head coaching job of the Colorado Avalanche.
He is said to be mulling over the organization's offer. The Avalanche and Roy are remaining fairly tight-lipped about the process though and neither have commented on the situation since Roy left Colorado after their meeting with president Pierre Lacroix almost two weeks ago. Currently the coach of the team is still Tony Granato, but if this rumor is true he may not be for much longer. Stay tuned.

I'm not sure how I feel about this

Mile High Hockey Coach or GM or Captain

I haven't seen anyone post this yet (but that might be that I just haven't been keeping up with the threads as much or as often, but whatever) -- What would you guys think of Super Joe being our new GM or new coach (should the 'need' arise)? Would this be more of the same "clinging to the past"? I would think he could be a good coach with his reputation of being a good leader, but I'm turned off by no experience.

Just a passing thought I had when I remembered that we would "know his plans sooner" this year...

Mile High Hockey From the Department of "No $#!+"

Via Rotoworld, Via Denver post:

The headline at Roto is what we have all come to believe: "Tucker has been a major bust in Colorado"

This season has been disappointing for Darcy Tucker.

"This year's been a tough year personally," he said. "But all you can do is work every day; just come to the rink and try to have each day get better." The veteran inked a two-year, $4.5 million contract this past summer with Colorado after being bought out by Toronto. He was brought in to help ease the loss of Andrew Brunette to free agency, but has been ice cold offensively. Tucker has generated a meager eight goals and six assists in 56 games to go along with a minus-13 rating. He has been playing with Ian Laperriere and Ben Guite of late and has scored goals in consecutive games in an attempt to salvage his year, but it appears to be too little too late.
That's the deep-digging reporting we have all come to love.

Mile High Hockey Forsberg (probably) retiring

From RotoWorld (via Denver Post)

http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NHL&hl=81873&id=155

Peter Forsberg has had another setback in Sweden and could be on the verge of announcing his retirement from hockey.

Forsberg was scheduled to play for Modo of the Swedish Elite League on Tuesday but did not dress. His foot problems re-occurred on Saturday and now Forsberg must decide on his next step. "I don't know what to do. I can't play if I don't feel 100 percent. . . . I don't know what happens now. I have to check if there is some last thing we can do to fix the problem," Forsberg said after the second period of Modo's game on Tuesday. "I am not that surprised. It has happened before and I was prepared for it this time as well. It seems impossible to fix the problem. I have tried it all." It looks like the end of the line for Forsberg.

Mile High Hockey The Q-Stache

From ESPN -- everyonce in a while something good comes out of there -- even a blind squirrel gets a nut every now and then...

From here

Bucci,

My buddies and I are loving this hot, new fad! Mr. Joel Quenneville's moustache. We are very pleased to see the Hawks are cruising through the NHL by using da Quenneville 'stache as a push broom to steamroll over their opponents. Teams better think twice if they plan on defeating da Hawks, because that moustache is intimidating!

Casey
Arlington Heights, Ill.

[+] EnlargeJoel Quenneville Jeff Vinnick/Getty ImagesIt's a bird, it's a plane ... No! It's Q-Stache!

There is no question that the resurgence of the Blackhawks and the revitalization of this storied franchise and its passionate fan base are entirely the result of Joel Quenneville's moustache. It's what I like to call the "Q-Stache." I was able to get an exclusive interview with Quenneville's Q-Stache during the holiday week:

Bucci: First of all, I bow to your majestic presence.

Q-Stache: As you should.

Bucci: What mysterious powers do you and others of your ilk have? Why does your type help Jason Giambi hit home runs and Tom Selleck score with women (despite wearing Hawaiian shirts)?

Q-Stache: First of all, don't compare me to my facial follicle brothers. You'll notice they no longer reside on the lips of Mr. Giambi or Mr. Selleck. They lacked the staying power to make real change. Those stars have faded. Mr. Giambi was a bust in New York. Mr. Selleck peaked with "Three Men and a Baby." He should never have gotten rid of the 'stache.

Bucci: But explain your powers.

Q-Stache: It's simply the ultimate sign of manliness. I mean, look at Mike Ditka. What more does one need to say? Chicago is the city of broad shoulders and hairy backs. Ditka, Ozzie Guillen, Phil Jackson. They are our championship coaches, and they all had hair on their faces. What more needs to be said?

Denis Savard clearly was fired because he has the skin of a "High School Musical 3" extra. Way too soft. Hockey is a game of stink. I mean, what's more disgusting than a 'stache after devouring two crab cakes? That's what I'm getting at here. That's the visual, the vibe. Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews are still poppin' zits in the mirror. They need a man in charge here. Outlaw Josey Wales Conference, baby! Woo! I am Chicago. You take me off Joel Quenneville's face, and you know what you have?

Bucci: What do you have?

Q-Stache: Bob Saget. The "Full House" version of Bob Saget. The Q-Stache rules. The sooner you understand that, the sooner we can move on.

Bucci: Are you Canadian?

Q-Stache: I put the Man in Manitoba, be-ahh ...

Bucci: OK! I get it! You have more testosterone than the Canadian world junior team. I get it. I really do. And I truly bow to your presence.

Q-Stache: You are free to go. The Q-Stache needs to go kill a raccoon. Q-Stache needs to eat, too.

Made me laugh at least...

Something Mike @ MHH showed me last year. It's a sad, depressing look at the season so far.

Really though, it is a neat tool and it was pretty interesting to watch it ebb and flow and ebb again last year.

Mile High Hockey Quick Note about Theodore and Parker

From rotoworld.com -- an excellent source for all your fantasy sports needs...

Scott Parker's contract has been voided by the Colorado Avalanche for insubordination.
"He is no longer a member of our organization," Avalanche vice president Jean Martineau said. Parker was sent to the minors on Oct. 17, but never reported. It will be interesting to see if the NHLPA grieves this incident as Parker has had concussion issues. Stay tuned

and Brent Johnson/Theodore

Brent Johnson – WAS – G

A goalie controversy is brewing in Washington with backup Brent Johnson outplaying starter Jose Theodore. Johnson owns a 2-1-2 record with a 2.36 goals against average and a .921 save percentage compared to Theodore's 4-3 record with a brutal 3.44 goals against average and a .877 save percentage. Johnson has started the past three games for the Caps, and, at the very least, should be owned as a handcuff to Theodore owners.

and

Brent Johnson made his third consecutive start as the Capitals defeated the Rangers 3-1 on Saturday night.

Johnson is now 2-0-1 after starting in three contests this week for the Capitals. Johnson is making the most out of his opportunity to steal the number one gig away from Jose Theodore. He has only allowed five goals, while maintaining a .953 save percentage in the three starts. The Caps face the Lightning on Monday night, so you might see Johnson start between the pipes once again. The long term forecast belongs to Theodore, as you just can't sit a $6.5 million goalie on the bench, but if you are looking for a temporary fix for a hot goalie, Johnson might just be your answer.

Mile High Hockey Tournament of Captains

There's a tournament of captains going on at GoingFiveHole. Super Joe is winning big right now. Would have to face Sid-the-Douche in the 2nd round. I don't know if the site is well trafficked or not, but hey -- we can't let SuperJoe lose to Guerin, Morrow, or Lecavalier. He didn't include teams that have rotating captains or "do not have a captain" (i.e. Toronto, Atlanta, Minnesota, and Florida). I didn't know anyone didn't have a captain.
