Tamba Hali: Heart of a Lion

about 1 year ago 18285351798744982129_tiny SupremeChief 3 comments 1 recs

Denver: B+/B. I

'm not quite sure if Miller is ideal for the 4-3 scheme, but he's still one heck of a player. The only thing preventing them receiving an A was the lack of run stuffers on the defensive line.

Kansas City: A-/B+.

We got some great value picks in this draft. I have few worries regarding the "boom or bust" players. Haley and Pioli have a way of straightening these guys out. Plus, we have great veteran leadership on this team. The potential we drafted is exponential. I cannot wait to see how well this team has improved.

San Diego: B/B-.

Really only had special teams as a weakness. I think they drafted mostly for depth outside of the first few rounds.

Oakland: C-/D+.

RB Jones is a good pick if he can stay healthy. I felt they had a lot of reaches and drafted based on 40 times quite a bit (shocker). I think this was a "meh" draft for the Raiders.

Arrowhead Pride I'm Apprehensive.

This time of year the men begin to separate from the boys. The playoff picture is gradually starting to come into focus. However, this is not the case for the AFC West.

I'm going on a limb and saying Oakland is out of the division race (their remaining schedule is pretty tough). Denver is most definitely out. That leaves our beloved Chiefs and the San Diego Chargers. If we look at San Diego's remaining schedule, we can conclude their schedule is not extremely difficult. I believe ours, on the other hand, just became a daunting task after SD beat the Colts last night. It's very possible the Chargers win out or suffer one or two losses at the least. We have to win all of our remaining home games. I originally thought 10-6 could win the division, but I now think we have to shoot for 11-5. I just can't see the Chiefs going to SD and beating them. SD will be out for sweet revenge, and I'm unsure if we will be prepared for the intensity the Chargers will bring into that game.

In essence, our cards will have to fall in the right place. Going 8-0 at home is quite a lofty goal to accomplish. Do I think we can do it? Absolutely. Do I think we will? That remains to be seen. We have to hold out hope either Oakland, Denver, or Cincy can beat the Chargers. Denver has nothing to play for. Cincy is.......I don't even know how to describe that team. Oakland may have a better chance because they are still in the fight. It'll be a battle to get into the playoffs. In the end, the Chiefs are the ones who are going to have to take care of business by winning games. If the Chiefs can go into St. Louis and defeat the Rams, I like our chances of going 11-5.

CHIEFS WILL!

Arrowhead Pride Why the Raiders Will Win

This is probably going to be the most insightful post I've ever written. Yes, I'm an egocentric. Anyway, I digress...here are a few reasons I've gathered from Raider fans as to why they will beat the Chiefs Sunday.

Banned

I was recently banned from a blog for an "inability to end a discussion." It's not a big deal, but I'm curious to see if this is an abuse of power. If I didn't violate the guidlines, is a blog manager allowed to ban? Do the rules vary from blog to blog or do blogs strictly follow SB Nation's terms of service? The input would be greatly appreciated.

Buffalo Rumblings Ask Arrowhead Pride

SupremeChief from Arrowhead Pride here. Where to begin? The Chiefs are coming off a stout 42-20 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday. It was fairly close until midway through the third quarter. I think fellow Chiefs fans were collectively holding their breath. Let's go over a few key players:

Players to watch:

RBs Jamaal "Lightning" Charles and Thomas "Thunder" Jones. The Chiefs are currently ranked number one in rushing offense. Our passing offense is rather meh. Cassel is a game manager and rarely has turned the ball over this season. But I wouldn't want to put winning this game on his shoulders.

TE Tony Moeaki has been a great receiving and blocking TE for us. If you can recall, he made the spectacular one-handed endzone catch in week three vs. San Francisco. If he can stay healthy, he will become a huge part of our offense.

CB Brandon Flowers has been underrated throughout his career, often overshadowed by Revis and Nnamdi Asomugha. Make no mistake, Flowers is a fantastic coverage corner and probably one of the best players on our defense.

DE Glen Dorsey is having a beastly year. He has steadily improved each season and has made the 3-4 transition rather well.

OLB Tamba Hali...what can I say about this guy? He lacks the flashy stats in sacks but ALWAYS seems to be around the ball and is a force when pressuring the QB. He's a high motor player who refuses to quit. If a QB leaves the ball out there for the taking, Tambahawk will surely attempt to strip the ball and recover the fumble.

All right, Buffalo fans...ask away.

Niners Nation On Behalf of AP...

I just wanted to say thanks to the owner of Niners Nation and all 49ers fans for a great week of blogging. I enjoyed reading all of your opinions (even if I disagreed with some and a few rubbed me the wrong way).

While losing in the fashion the 49ers did Sunday is a tough pill to swallow, I still think your team has numerous weapons and a lot of upside. I'd just question the coaching. I was honestly waiting for the 49ers to turn it around after the half and somewhat expected it. I predicted a close game with the Chiefs winning by a field goal (just because it has been a pattern in recent games).

I'd also like to add this Chiefs team has vastly improved from the 2009 season. Not a lot of changes were made, but the changes we did make (our draft class, signing Lilja and Casey W. in the offseason) helped out quite a bit. I think what really put us over the hump were the personnel changes. Romeo and Weis have really stepped into their roles and brought the best out of our players. For once, I see a coaching staff who will make adjustments when necessary and gameplan accordingly. We are not superior by any means, but I feel the future is bright in Chiefs Nation. We have the ability to be competitive and believe we will continue to surprise football fans around the country (while experiencing a few bumps along the way).

Again, thanks and good luck with the rest of your season.

I think we should show why we're the classiest fans and offer our sympathies to Bronco nation...they were dealt a serious blow yesterday with the loss of yet another young player. We all remember what it was like to lose DT. It's not easy. Represent Arrowhead Pride well, my friends.

How refreshing to begin the season with a huge win over a playoff-caliber team! Hopefully this gives our young team confidence going into Cleveland Sunday. I'm still holding out for five to seven wins and think we can add another W against the Browns.

1) Our offense was flat out AWFUL as a unit. The run game was fairly solid (no shocker), but we have GOT to be able to move the ball through the air. Teams are going to gameplan against our RB tandem and force us to play one-dimensional football. Cassel showed he could pump the ball downfield. Where was the accuracy? He was overthrowing receivers all night. I don't know if it was the downpour or what...maybe it'll improve. He did make some nice throws, though. The o-line was shaky at first but really cemented themselves as the game wore on. Cassel had time to throw on those playaction passes which was nice to see. Can't wait to get O'Cal back!

2) Defense...WOW! That first SD TD drive had me worried. 'Oh boy...it's going to be a LONG night.' Then Jamaal "Lightning" Charles broke for the 50+ yard TD run. Our defense stepped up big time. I could literally feel the intensity radiating from the players to the crowd and from the crowd to those watching on TV. I may be exaggerating a bit, but I felt our defense was playing at a Super Bowl-caliber level until halftime. The second half was a little less exciting, most of the energy was lost thanks to the Rivers long TD pass to Nanee, but I felt we made plays when we had to. I want to give a shout out to certain defensive players who really showed up: Dorsey, DJ, Flowers, and Jackson.

3) We have the best special teams unit hands down. No doubt about it. Excellent kick coverage all night, fantastic kick/punt returns, very promising kicker, Pro-Bowl level punter...what's not to love?

4) Chargers fans are saying we played terrible football. I would say only the offense was terrible. The defense (after their shaky start) was nothing short of amazing the first half. Yeah, they struggled a bit in the second half, but they were on the field a huge portion of the game. That's on our offense's shoulders and needs to be fixed. It just angers me people attempt to discredit our hard-earned victory. Honestly, this a very young and talented team. If we don't do well this season, I say we use 2011 draft picks on offensive line, WR, and ILB. We need a better offensive showing in Cleveland. Let's hope for the best.

GO CHIEFS!

Arrowhead Pride Breaking Down the Broncos (Good, Bad, and Ugly Edition)

It's rare I watch games concerning AFC West opponents, but I had little to do yesterday and was craving football. I made mental notes regarding the game and would like to share some observations of the Denver Broncos. Feel free to add more details in the comments section.

The Good:

--WR Gaffney made some great plays, especially under the two minute mark before halftime. Overall, the WR corps did very well.

--Kyle Orton made some great throws. The 40+ yarder to Gaffney was spot on and made me wish Cassel could sling the ball like that.

--The defense had a few key stops to keep the game close.

--That two-minute drill before half was highly impressive.

The Bad:

--RB Moreno hardly impressed me. I can only recall him having a few good runs.

--The offense was extremely inconsistent. They would sustain a great scoring drive followed by a couple 3 & out drives.

--Kyle Orton DOES NOT scramble. There were a couple sacks he took where he had plenty of time to throw or consider throwing the ball away and just didn't. In fact, he remained in the pocket. He doesn't look like the most agile QB, but if Matt Cassel can attempt to scramble, why can't he?

The Ugly:

--Denver's special teams was atrocious. Either Underwood is that good or the SP unit for the Broncs is that bad.

--I found their defense reminiscent of a Herm Edwards defense. They made some good plays but were pitifull overall.

Arrowhead Pride Which UDFAs would you want on the team?

Here's the compiled list of UDFAs courtesy of Primetime:

DT Dion Gales, Troy (6'7", 288 pounds)

LB, Bobby Abare, Yale (6'2", 220 pounds)

DE Bobby Greenwood, Alabama (6'5", 278 pounds)

DB/WR Londen Fryar, Western Michigan (5'11", 185 pounds)

LB Pierre Walters, Eastern Illinois (6'4", 265 pounds)

WR Taurus Johnson, South Florida (6'1", 190 pounds)

LB Jovan Belcher, Maine (6'3", 235 pounds)

OT Cameron Goldberg, Duke (6'4", 286 pounds)

S Ricky Price, Oklahoma St. (6'1", 195 pounds)

LB Corey Smith, Cincinnati (6'1", 225 pounds)

CB Jackie Bates, Hampton (5'10", 172 pounds)

Not included are QB Drew Tate, QB Chase Patton, and TE Tom Crabtree.

Personally, I would want to keep WR Taurus Johnson, LB Jovan Belcher, LB Pierre Walters, and either one of the QBs (I'm ready to dump Croyle). To be honest, I don't know much about DE Bobby Greenwood since I never saw Alabama play. Did he even start? Also, I know nabbing Jovan and Pierre may be a long shot since we are stacked at LB.

Lend me your own personal thoughts as to who should make this team.

Arrowhead Pride NFL Ticket Inquiry

I'm a HUGE Chiefs fan who moved from KCK to Utah roughly 8 months ago. I miss seeing my boys play and am wondering if NFL Ticket with Dish is worth the expense.

I've never had NFL Ticket or anything like it, and I haven't owned Dish either.

I'm just worried most Chiefs games would not be broadcasted--that's the main reason I'm thinking about purchasing it, to see the Chiefs play.

Thanks for the information. I appreciate it greatly.

Arrowhead Pride Arrowhead Contact (Regarding Holtzclaw)

Secretary:
816.920.9300

Call that number and wait for the operator. Ask for the Director of Collegiate Scouting. You will be directed to Chuck Cook's secretary's voicemail. I mentioned the AP petition to him and said Holtzclaw fits the Pioli mold.

Add as much information about him as possible. The more people who flood his voicemail the better!

Daniel "The Claw" Holtzclaw is a winner with a stellar attitude, and he deserves a shot at the NFL. Why not start with the KC Chiefs?

Arrowhead Pride Positions of Need

Let's break it down--we've addressed our D-line in regards to selecting a run-stopper. Here are the positions I feel we need to address:

1) DL - pass rusher. We may not even address this position since we already drafted Jackson. I can dream, though.

2) OL - guard to replace Wade Smith. I'm not sold on him. We also should search for a RT.

3) WR - I'm sure Bradley and Engram will do fine, but the team really needs a playmaker here...someone who can open up the field.

4) LB - depth.

Round 3: DE, Round 4: RT/G Round 5: WR, Round 6: LB, Round 7: RT/G

I believe it's more important to get a RT before drafting a guard--MacIntosh should never see the field again.

Arrowhead Pride Thoughts on drafting GT DE Johnson?

This is my first post--someone mentioned Johnson is still on the board (which doesn't surprise me since some great first round picks fell into the second round). Well, what would you say about drafting him? He'd fill a need for a pass rusher.

We'd be getting second round talent for the price of a third round pick--that's a great deal!

I know we have other needs. We need a RT, a guard (Wade Smith doesn't excite me too much), and a WR (I like Mike Wallace--I read he is projected to go in the 5th, though).

I say we go for it--everyone seems to dislike the Tyson Jackson pick due to his lack of pass rushing skills. I think if we had Jackson AND Johnson, it would be extremely hard to not get excited about the defensive line.
