I am quite confused... a relatively major news outlet, which does not cover sports in any significant way has an article about each ML team that leads to me agreeing with almsot every thing that is said... Including references to platoons and defense being important... and for good measure u reference people who are allergic to being on base with any frequency

Not Just Another FYF post

ok first off I use FYF, not fully understanding the acronym, i just know it represents Frency...But to the meat of my question. Has Jeff begun to break out of his season long slump, the past week or so he seems to be playing a little bit better, not that he is tearing the cover off the ball or anything, but still. Is this just hopeful enthuasism on my part or is there something to this? Also, i found a very interesting stat, that works against Francoeur but still. It was Runs Not Batted In. Ive always thought RBIs was a screwed stat, because if you have more opportunites than everyone else you better have more RBI. Jeff had the 4th most Runs Not Batted In, with Brad Hawpe leading the way.

I dont really know what Im trying to say, but I think theres still reason to beleive Jeff can be our RF of the future. Ive never thought of him as a superstar but he would be a great guy to have batting 6th or 7th, very similar to Jay Buhner. This is the proper comparison, those who compare Buhner to Cody Johnson, are incorrect, Buhner had a cannon for an arm, theres no evidence that Johnson has that skill, or any defensive skll for that matter.

2009 FA Possibilities

I posted this in another thread, but i wanted to set up its own post just to see if I coule garner some talk. Hopefulyl this will keep us from thinking about our recent losses to the Nationals. I'd really like to know what everyone thinks on this.

I wanted to touch on something i just discovered the other day, in my estimation the Braves will have a base salary as a team next year of around 50 or 60M, depdning on what smoltz gets for a contract, he currently has a 12M option i believe, and if we resign a couple of guys… Tex (not a chance really), or glavine… Generally the Braves spend in the neighborhood of 90M which give us around 40-30M to spend. Also, the Braves won’t need to dole out a ton of money in Arbitration because Frenchy is having an off year (to say the least)

I think we have our 1B of the future, whether it be FLowers, Freeman, Heyward, or even Cody Johnson (remember he isnt even 20 yet). so all we really need is a stop gap for one or two years at 1B. I think the most glaring thing the Braves need to do is ptiching, the rotation needs a front line starter (i don’t think Hudson is an ace, he is a low nb1 or high nbr 2 but not an ace) Sheets and Sabathia are both on the market. I think it is imperative that the Braves make a serious run at one of those two. Theres no way i want to spend 20M but if we can get one of them for around 15-17M a year for maybe 5-6 years, i say go for it.

But back to the 1B situation, like i said we need a stopgap. Here is a short list of the guys that are FA to be this offseason… Ben Broussard, Sean Casey, Eric Hinske, and Doug Mientkiewicz. If we can sign Eric Hinske I think that should be our top guy to get. HE isn’t just a flash in the pan hitter, his ops is around 860 this year i believe, he can play the OF and 1B, he is a former ROY (not that that means a lot, but it helps my case so im gunna bring it up). Sean Casey and Doug Mientkiewicz are both very solid defensive 1B, and both are avg hitters. Sean Casey is an exceptional hitter in my opinion, if it weren’t for his lack of power. I think all of these guys can be signed for around 5-7M.

If both of these signings can occur, a 1B, and a front end starter we can compete next year, and I’ve only spent half of our proposed cap room. This next part could get a little scary if the first part wasnt already. I propose we sign Pat Burrell, hopefully to a 1-2 year deal. we slot Burrel in behind Chipper and our offense is no worse than it is this year. Casey Blake is another possibility. We could even sign Blake as our 1B, but i’m currently addressing our OF, so Iver put him here. Adam Dunn is also a FA, and he could be thrown in the mix.

I know a lot of these guys have their defincies, Sheets (injuries), Sabathia (afinity to sausages and beer, at least recently), the 1B considered to be avg or slightly above avg, Burrell and Dunn tend to swing and miss a fair amount. But besides sheets and Sabathia we are only looking for a year maybe two out of the guys. Worst case we are no worse than we are this year, best case we have Hinske, whose production is hgiher than any OF we have, Blake same thing, and our Rotation now looks quite menacing, with Hudson Jurrjens and Sheets/Sabathia.

I just stumbled across the proposed 2009 FA and this is how i came to this idea, i may be whacked out of my head (it wouldnt be the first time), but i think this makes sense. Does anyone else agree? Beard feel free to back me up or shoot me down with the stats

I said i would do it so here we go.

The question on the dockett after the most recent of Braves wins is this, is this year's version of the Braves a great team, or the Greatetst team ever assembled? i will reserve my opinion until some discussion. This game is a classic example of how great they are. We have great pitching from a top of the line ace, in Timm Huddson. we get show off the power with a bomb by KJ, Chipper's quest for 400 contines.. we have a young RF who has shown some real promise. and beisdes Boyer's meanignless earned run, the bullpen pitched outstanding.

So i ask is there anythign this team can't do.. i think the World Series is a foregone conclusion, but what about the BCS Championship?

this time its not for a member of our pitching staff, its for me. I'm am legitimately freaking out. I live in florida and thus the decision of TBS to no longer carry Braves game, nearly driving me to depression and did drive me to quite the binge drinking. But back to my point, i "watch" games on CBS Gamecenter. So when the braves had the bases loaded with one out and french decided to strike out on 3 pitches, and then brandon jones (p.s. why is he better than josh anderson) flies out on the first pitch, i had that feeling that we blew our opportunity and this was confirmed when Reyes gave up the tying run due to some poor defense in the next inning. But then we had a glimpse of what this team can do, our "backups" blanco and infante carry the team to a victory in the ninth. And then miraculously we have a closer who "looks" (remember, im not seeing th pitches just having them tracked for me, but the sequence and location looked great to me) dominant (o and knock on wood, toss salt over your shoulder, rub your rabbits foot, whatever). O and the Ultimate FIghter was phenomenal tongiht (sorry sidenote) But when the game ended i almost started to hypervenialate i was so excited.. anyone else feeling good for one day this season( and its doesnt necessarily involve good feelings caused by Chipper, tho he did go deep)?

There's been a lot of talk about picking up Maddux, and while i think everyone agrees that would be incredible, having him Smoltz and Glavine back in the rotation, i don't see it as a viable option (especially not in the long term). Other possible additions mentioned are Harden (injury prone), Sheets (injury prone and not gonna leave Mil most likely), Blanton and there are others. But I cam across an article today mentioning that C.C. Sabathia could be on the trade market at some point this year. After his abysmal April he is back into his normal form. He is a young power pitcher who eats up innings, thats absolutely what we need, especially if we can sign him long term. Also, It would give us three lefty starters, which present matchup problems galore. The only problem is we would have to resign him after the season, and no one wants to have a scenario like we have with Tex, where we give up a couple of our best prospects for a guy to play for us for a 1 1/2. I just wanted to see what everyone thought about this, is it a viable option as far as helping the braves now and in the future, do you think it will happen, and what would we have to give up to get him.
