Tuesday Morning QB - Virginia Tech post-game analysis

As Tech moves forward from last night's difficult defeat, we take a look at the good and bad performers. If you think about it, what we ended up witnessing last night was a good old-fashioned...

So if you're not aware, Tech's seniors have decided to honor their injured teammate Julian Burnett and take turns wearing a #40 jersey in each game this season. Great show of family and respect by the senior class, as they will certainly miss the leadership, talent, and heart of one Julian Burnett. Monday night in Blacksburg, the first honor of wearing #40 will belong to DT T.J. Barnes (who wears a size 3XL - don't worry they have him covered!).

2012 Virginia Tech Defense their best ever?

So looking up some stories for tomorrow night's game, I ran across a Washington Post story about Virginia Tech DC Bud Foster and his defensive unit. The unit's goals are lofty, as evident in the...

The Paul Johnson Radio Show starts tonight

It's on 790 the Zone (no Steak - I promise) from 7-8 PM...or on your 790 the Zone iPhone app. I always enjoy listening, CPJ and Wes can ham it up every now and then. You might actually get to hear CPJ say something offensive to a DWAG fan! If you live in the Atlanta metro area, the show is recorded live at Hudson Grille - Midtown...so stop by! Also available in podcast form for free.

Lessons in Perceptions of College Football...

I had a discussion the other day with some CFB fans from other schools, and the topic of recruiting at highly academically ranked schools was debated. In characteristic fashion, the verbal volleys...

Why Does ACC Officiating Hate Georgia Tech?

Today I delve into a topic that, for some reason, doesn't cause the uproar it deserves. When Georgia Tech lines up every week for ACC Conference play...we are in fact squaring off against two...

Middle Tennessee State (Week 5) - Last One Before the Road

The first 4 games of the season have been described as the harbinger of success for GT's 2012 season...as well they should be. The next game, and the final of 4 straight home games, will be against...

Georgia Tech Football Season Preview: Secondary

The most talented and experienced position group on Defense is, without question, the Secondary. Even with recent departure of 4-year starter Rashaad Reid through graduation, the returning group of...

Georgia Tech Football Season Preview: B-backs

After having three straight seasons of 1,300+ yards out of the feature B-back, the departures of Jon Dwyer and Anthony Allen to the NFL left an open competition to be the successor in 2011. That...

Georgia Tech Football Season Preview: Special Teams

It happened. CPJ hired a Special Teams coach...and Hell got a few degrees cooler. Whereas the Special Teams were a strength of the team in 2009 with the clutch Scott Blair and the talented...

Georgia Tech Football Season Preview: Wide Receivers

Hey there Tech fans, this is TBuzz (Tom) and I am happy to join the site as a contributor. I figure since I write more than these jokers anyway, I might as well get some credit! All kidding aside,...

Nice to have John Swofford in your corner, even though the infractions you committed are, I don't know, infinitely more reflective of gaining a competitive advatage than say...$312 of still-tagged and returned sports apparel from a family member. Given the allegations of the benefits given to players from Nevin Shapiro, as well as the known recruiting violations mentioned in this story, it stands to reason that if the University of Miami can't play by the recruiting rules it needs fewer scholarships to reinforce those rules. But of course, the ACC will never punish UNC harshly for academic violations (which foster a competitive advantage) or Miami for recruiting and financial violations (which foster a competitive advantage)...they go after Georgia Tech because it's AD and HC had the balls to call a spade a spade.

3 Football Commits this weekend so far...

Fast and furious...a DB, QB, and a WR. Tolando Cleveland - DB 6'0" 170 (Hillgrove HS) http://blogs.ajc.com/recruiting/2012/07/13/db-tolando-cleveland-commits-to-georgia-tech-over-mississippi-state/ From the HS that brought you Synjyn Days and Jabari Hunt-Days, he won a scholarship at camp on Friday and committed on the spot. Damon Mitchell - QB 6'3" 200 (Egg Harbor Township, NJ) http://blogs.ajc.com/recruiting/2012/07/14/qb-damon-mitchell-commits-to-georgia-tech/ Big super-athletic QB on our radar for awhile now, and also... Antonio Messick - WR 6'3" 195 (Fayette County HS) Sleeper WR prospect from "Fayette-nam" who won a scholarship at camp. Lastly...Brandon Facyson committed to VPI

Corey Heyward out for 2012-2013 with ACL tear

FP'd. - LilBroey This is bad news. We needed PG depth with Pierre Jordan graduating and now have to probably scramble to backup Mfon Udofia until Stacey Poole can join the guard rotation starting in January 2013.

Football Commits #9 and #10 - John Marvin DB and Justin Akins DE

Really excited about these two. John Marvin starred at this past GT summer camp, he's a big physical CB in the CAG mold. He's from Fort Walton Beach HS in Florida. Late bloomer, so his rankings are scattered. ESPN and Rivals have him at 3 stars with a (ESPN with a 77 rating)...but ratings usually shake out after July. Justin Akins is currently exploding on the recruiting trail with a nice long offer sheet...until now overshadowed by his more well-known teammate Jay Woods at Jackson HS just south of Atlanta. Word is they came back from Clemson together (were he has an offer), but Akins chose to commit to Tech. Justin, from what I've read, is also the younger brother of former Tech PG Tony Akins....we finally nabbed a legacy then! Open spots are going fast with 10 commits on the board. Look for Brandon Facyson, Darius Curry, or Cameron Sutton to make moves soon on the other DB spots available. Hopefully this helps seal the deal with Jay Woods at the DL spot as well.

Solomon Poole - 2013 5-star PG signs with Tech

Younger brother of recent Kentucky transfer Stacey Poole...Solomon Poole is the best PG prospect we've landed in recent years. 6'1" 180 right now. He'll be coming in as Mfon Udofia and Pierre Jordan graduate. Tech basketball has a bright future with CBG!

Football Commit #5 - Jeremi Hall OL

As expected, Shamire Devine's teammate from Tri-Cities HS in East Point just committed to Tech! He's 6'4" 318 and rated highly by some (Rivals) and is likely to play OG. Shamire Devine, Thomas O'Reilly, and now Jeremi Hall...quite a haul at the OL position!

Football Commit #4 - Darius Commissiong DT

6'3" 305 DT out of Bishop McNamara HS (MD) of the DC Catholic School league...where we've recently landed Louis Young, Jeremiah Attaochu, and Roderick Chungong from. He's a 3-star DT prospect, ranked #43 in the nation by Scout. He had offers from Iowa, VPI, WVU, and Clemson among others. He's projected to be a 3-4 NT.

Football Commit #3 - Shamire Devine OT

Ed Note: TBuzz only beat me by 20 min this time....Nate and I are working on a post concerning our two recent commitments. Stay tuned! -LilBroey700 This is a big signing...and not just because he's 6'7" 330. He's a 4-star OT prospect (ranked as top 20 in his position by several services) out of Tri-Cities HS in East Point. He has attended several HS football all-star camps and has walked away with the OL MVP award at several of them. This guy is extremely quick for his size. This also brings up another interesting tidbit. His teammate, OL Jeremi Hall, have discussed going to the same college together. Hall isn't as highly rated as Devine, but is still ranked as a top-100 OG prospect. Hall also had GT as his favorite...so I wouldn't be surprised if Commit #4 was on its way.

Football Commit #2 - Donovan Wilson RB

Ed Note: I really need to start checking FanShots before posting my own. -LilBroey700 Big physical RB, 6'0" 205, from Dublin, Ohio. Signed by Dave Walkosky after being offered yesterday afternoon. Also had offers from Purdue, Air Force, and was expected to get one from Iowa where his brother was a 2012 commit. Most recruiting services have him at 3-stars, ranked between 50-100 amongst RBs.

Really cool story about the artist currently known as Michael Peterson

Guys, the showing is Saturday from 7PM-10PM at the James K. Holder studio in Castleberry Hill...that's like 5 minutes from campus. Take your dates to No Mas Cantina...and then stumble over.

Glen Rice, Jr. dismissed from Georgia Tech...

Note: TBuzz always seems to beat me to the punch, except I don't notice until I make my own post. FP'd with credit to him. As you've likely heard by now, Glen Rice Jr. has been dismissed from the Georgia Tech basketball team. It's unfortunate to see our team's leading scorer and rebounder go, especially with the potential he had, but I like seeing Coach Gregory not afraid to hold his star player to the same standards as everyone else. We wish Glen the best in the future, whatever it may bring. -LilBroey700

For the Love of God...

This is on GRJ and London Warren. But at what point do we need to hold Dan Radakovich accountable for this 2+ years of bad publicity for GT?

NCAA appeal denied...

I'd rather let this sink in first before I start ranting about the NCAA not letting the punishment fit the crime...

Georgia Tech rumored to be hiring a Special Teams Coach...

FP'd for drama factor. -Nate Dave Walkosky from the Calgary Stampede of the CFL...just posting it but not really validated yet. "He spent eight seasons at Toledo, his alma mater, and the Rockets had a winning record each year he was on the coaching staff. Walkosky worked in several capacities with the Rockets — handling linebackers, defensive backs and special teams at various times — and Toledo won six division titles, two Mid-American Conference championships and appeared in four bowl games during this period. In 2006, Toledo’s defence allowed the fewest points and fewest yards in the conference. In 2003, when Walkosky was handling special teams, the Rockets were third in the nation in punt returns and fifth in net punting."

Aerospace Engineering and Football team up!

This must be seen to be believed...it's pretty damn cool. I've also learned from this story that Ayoob is BOO-YA spelled backwards...

Just when you thought Tech's basketball situation couldn't get any worse...

GRJ suspended indefinitely, effective immediately. No reason has been given for the suspension from Coach Gregory.

Todd Spencer liked his unlimited text and data plan way too much...

Second such violation in a calendar year for Todd Spencer, apparently, and the recruit who's communication was rescinded for a calendar month by Tech (self-imposed by the GT compliance office) was...Will Adams. Guess there's always a story behind the story, I can understand the kid's need to find some options.
