Lookee here Mack - Homecoming Queen tries out for LSU
Tuesday was the first day of walk-on tryouts, and the most famous female athlete in Baton Rouge -- a girl-next-door beauty and homecoming queen whose face has appeared on billboards and recruiting posters -- put on a helmet and attempted numerous field goals and kickoffs. The wind made kicking difficult, but as she said, "I had some great kickoffs between the 5-yard line and the goal line.''
No woman has kicked in major college football since Katie Hnida made two extra points for New Mexico in 2003. But this story is about so much more than a girl playing football.
"People’s first assumption about this is that it's a media stunt or some attempt for attention and glory,'' Isom told Gannett News after her first practice. "That couldn't be further from the truth. I feel it was a goal God placed in my heart. It's just something I want to do.
The Sappys
Warren Sapp of the NFL Chanal is giving out his awards for best players in certain categories, like sacks etc. Ware finished second in sacks and Rat was third in another category. Why does this have any relevance? It shows we have two excellent players to build a defense around. As an aside no Giants players were mentioned in any of the three categories listed on President's Day.
How about Cedric Griffin?
Rumor is that the Vikings are about to part ways with Griffin. The reason is his $4.1 million contract. He is a RKG and could be had for less. What do you think?
If all the Cowboys were this motivated
OLB DeMarcus Ware (DAL) said he will be watching Super Bowl XLVI as a form of motivation. Ware believes the team was close to being a Super Bowl contender this season. "Yeah, I'll watch on Sunday," Ware said. "It will sort of motivate me to play a little bit harder next season, knowing how close we were." The Cowboys were 0-3 against the New England Patriots and New York Giants this season
The Cowboys and the Red Zone woes
Clearly this was a problem for the Boys.Adding the fact that L. Robinson scored 7 of the 11 Tds there.Sure we should be able to get more rushing TDs next year.Better O line play is also an answer. If we had another TE,onelike the Pats have, that would also improve our scoreing down there.Another thing is we got lots of penalties which cost us opportunties to go for a TD instead of a FG.I know everyone says our D must improve but if we fix this RZ problem we should have been 10 - 6 and maybe it's us not the Giants in the Super Bowl. The Cowboys' red zone touchdown efficiency dropped from 59.6 percent in 2010 (ranked 9th) to 49.0 percent in 2011 (ranked 20th). What changed? Well, the Cowboys only had five rushing touchdowns this season -- the lowest total in franchise history -- including only four from running backs. It's much harder to throw inside the 20 because teams can zone you and keep the ball in front of them
Texas exs Durant and Aldridge finalist for U.S. Olympic team
USA Basketball announced Monday the selections of Texas-Exes LaMarcus Aldridge (2005-06) and Kevin Durant (2007) as two of the 20 finalists for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Men’s Basketball Team. The 12-man team will be finalized later this year.
Dez has another incident
Maybe now we know why Dez dropped so far in the draft.I wonder how much more the Cowboys will put up with as Dez shows he may be a WKG. Latest reports coming out of the Miami area that Dez Bryant was involved in an incident that included a report the wide receiver was detained by police but not charged, you have to wonder how the Cowboys are viewing this overall situation.
Some Ideas for Fixing the Cowboys' Offense
I know most of you think that the D is the priority in this draft, but if we are to win, we must protect Romo and generate a respectable running game. Why has Romo had the bad Decembers? Chronic depth issues have been the No. 1 contributor to these December disasters. The window for title contention is open only as long as Romo is on the top of his game. Let's look at some suggestions for improving our offense, getting us back into the playoffs and keeping us under the salary cap.

Congrats To Tucker for his Holiday Bowl Record
UT and Cal combined for a Holiday Bowl record 16 punts, and the Horns' 9 tied a Holiday Bowl mark (Arizona, 2009). Texas’ Justin Tucker uncorked a 64-yard punt, the longest in Holiday Bowl history.
CBS Sports With early Mock For the Boys
Both experts have given us the 16th pick which means they don't think we beat the Giants who they have assigned the 18 th pick. Thier two choices for our first pick were Luke Kuecly ILB Boston College or Alfonso Dennard CB Neb. ( they say he is short but physical.
OSU's Justin Blackmon going to the NFL
"I'm pretty sure that it will be [my last game)," Blackmon said. "I think it's just time. It's that time to go. I came back last year to win a Big 12 championship, set us up for a BCS bowl and I think we did that."
Huston Street now a Padre
The Rockies have traded Street to the Padres to unload his salary of about 7.5 million. Good luck on the left coast Huston.
Barnes keeps rakeing them in
no. 12. Texas Verbal commitments: No. 8 Cameron Ridley (6-10, 250, C), No. 96 Javan Felix (5-11, 190, PG) Rick is not through. This ranking is from CBS
A&M's Kennedy has Parkinson's
Texas A&M basketball coach Billy Kennedy announced on Thursday that he is "dealing with" an early stage of Parkinson's, the disease most closely associated with Muhammad Ali and Michael J. Fox.
Bears Release Safety Chris Harris
This guy was second team all pro last year. He had asked to be traded but the Bears decided to release him instead. I don't know how good he was but with the Boy's need at DB he could be an upgrade. What do you think?
Quarterback Helmet Cameras
It seems that lots of teams are using helmet cameras for various things. The most popular use is to see what the QB sees in the passing game. You can see if he makes the proper read, checks downs his WRs or should have thrown the ball away.
Notre Dame has four QBs just like Texas and they are using the helmet cam to better evaluate and teach them.
You can go to Yu tube and check out Kelly's interview with Urban Meyer where he discusses the use of the camera. There is also a video from Mich. on thier use of the cameras.
Mack and Co. seem to always be on the cutting edge of new coaching inovations so I'm wondering if they used them or are considering using them.
Texas Releases Non-Conference Basketball schedule
Looking at this ,and not really knowing what our team will play like,I still see a lot of Ws.I'm glad that we try to play good teams even if it comes back to bite us at selection times.I'm still mad at our seed last year. Marquise Goodwin is National Champion
Goodwin won the title in the broadjump with a leap of over 27 ft. He qualified to represent the USA in the Worlds in Korea. This may not bode well for his further participation in football as he is good enough to go pro in track. Mazano also made the team with a 3rd place finish in the 1500 and Hardee was an automatic qualifier in the decatalon.
Wondering Why No One Comes to Study Barnes' Offense
This quote set me to wondering what Rick Barnes does in the offseason?Losing most of his team to graduation what is going on with what's left?We know Tod Wright is working on strength and conditioning and Barnes and his assitants are trying to recruit a new team for next year. One great thing about the summer is the return to campus by many of our former players, like T. J. Ford and Durant. I have never heard of anyone studying our program although some have come in to take a look at the facilities and see what Wright has done in the weight room but no one seems to want to immulate any thing else. . "When I first went there I saw how organized everything was, how seamless everything was in its execution, and I kind of sat back in my chair and said, That's why he's been so successful the last 31 years - look at this practice, look at this meeting, look how this stuff goes." (said about Duke and Coach K) Maybe Barnes needs to scout his own program and compare it to some of those that have success in the NCAAs year after year. Why can Butler get to the Final Four with less talent than UT has?How does Izzo have success year after year? What is Self doing at Kansas that can't be done on the 40 Acres? It would seem that everything is in place for UT to contend for a title. The team has achieved very high rankings in the polls only to fold in the tournament. How long can Barnes ride his one trip to the Final Four? The Aggies,Baylor and KSU are improveing and Kansas stays at a high level. It would seem that Barnes has used his Mulligan and must make another tournament run.As they say "win or go home".
Watkins Says Roy Williams Sticking Around
I know that many of you don't like Roy and think Jerry made a bad deal to acquire him. That said, Roy did as well last year as Miles Austin. Watkins lists three reasons why Roy will be staying:The money Williams is suppose to make next season, the Cowboys lack of a number three wide receiver and the injury of Dez Bryant. This makes sense after the lackluster performances of Ogltree and Hurd last year and we sure don't wantHolley as our third wideout.
Reported Committ No. 6 Hassan Ridgeway
This is being posted on BC by Tipsy Gypsy.I can find no other confirmation of this. Another day, another get at a position of need: Defensive End. A great get if this is true.
Move to Westlake fuels Sean Payton rumors
Payton and his family are moving close to the Cowboys facilties. New Orleans fans are nervous and wondering why. Randy Galloway speculates that although Payton has two more years on his contract there are no restrictions to his becoming a general manager. Do you think JJ would give up his title?
Shaun Rogers Cut By Cleveland
Rogers a 6' 4" 320 lb. DT and a Longhorn letterman from 97 to 2000 was cut by the Cleveland Browns yesterday. There is speculation that he might get picked up by Dallas since thier new defensive coordinator held the same position with Cleveland .last year. Rogers was hurt most of last year and was critized for working out on his own to get ready to play each Sunday. If not Dallas then he should find a team he can help.
Petersen Staying at Boise
Petersen likes where he's at.Well he likes it better than Stanford. So our OC won't be leaving at least not this year. "I'm really happy to be in the position I've been the last five years," said Petersen, who is 61-5 with two undefeated seasons at Boise State. "I think [Stanford] is a very special place. I just thought it was worth having a conversation about, but that's about as far as it went."
Per Announcers Dez Has a Fractured Ankle
Doesn't sound ver encourageing especially with how he has been playing lately. Looks like Ogletree will get to show if he belongs in the league or not.
Wade says JJ is an excellent GM.that should show you he can't evaluate talent.
He's an excellent general manager. He's gotten us good players. I think the drafts have been good. We've probably got the best rookie in the league this year out of the draft, with a team that won a playoff game last year."
Jerry Jones says Barber to be the starter
Looks like Marion Barber is back in the saddle as our starter. Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones on RB Marion Barber's progress this season off-season: "I know this, he looks quicker. I think that is going to make him even more effective. He's just in great shape, he looks as good out there as I've seen him look in his career." If he can pick up those third and shorts he missed last year we are going to roll.
Bowl Pick'em Contest
Will we have a contest this year.It was great fun last year although I faded in the stretch I still enjoyed it and it made the game watchimg more fun.
