Longhorn Baseball Receives Two Verbals

The Horns received verbal committments from the first Golden Triangle players since Beau Hale back in the 90s.

Teamates from the Southeast Texas Sun Devils Kirby Bellow and Jacob Felts gave thier committments a day apart.

Bellow a pitcher from Nederland was 10 - 2 last year with an ERA of1.46.he was the 20-4A MVP.He also hit .394 on the season.

Felts a catcher from Orangefield hit.471 with 6 homeruns and 38 RBIs

Thier summer league coach said that both players could be drafted by MLB but both players wanted to go to Texas.

The earliest they can sign with the Horns is Nov.11.

Does anyone else have any Horn related baseball news.Has Belt or any of our recruits from last year signed with the majors?

DMN:Reporting Jarvis Humphery Has Withdrawn From Classes

The Dallas Morning News is reporting that Jarvis Humphery a defensive tackle has withdrawn from classes because he is suffering from a kindney condition.Humphery was considered one of the best at his position coming out of high school. He was a red shirt freshman from Cedar Hill, Texas.

There was no statement as to what he would do in the future. The defense was counting on him to provide depth at a thin position on the team.Let' hope he can resolve this condition and return to the team in the fall.

James To Explore options

The Forth Worth Star Telegram is repoprting that a source with knowledge states that Damion James will submitt his name for the NBA draft to be held  on June 15.However he  will not hire an agent leaveing the door open for his return to the Horns should he not like his options.

A formal announcement is expected later today.

James was supposed to meet with coach Barnes today to discuss what options were available to him. With the NBA cutting back on tryout camps and other ways to evaluate players it is harder to establish a players abilities or draft status.

OU Picks Up A Juco WR Why Can't UT Get A TE

WR Cameron Kenney has committed to Oklahoma. He fills a real need position for the Sooners. The 6 foot 2 195 pound Kenney played for Garden City(Kan) Community College where he had 83 receptions for 1,193 yards in his two seasons.     Here OU had a position of need so they go to the Juco ranks and get immediate help.

The Longhorns have a desperate need at TE but will Mack bring in someone from the Juco ranks to fill this position untill our young players develop.Hell no.

Don't even start that stuff about jucos can't qualify at UT because they have on both the basketball and baseball teams.

Irby may never play football again but we will sit on our butt and try to make a chicken out of chicken shinola.

This is the one area where Mack wears blinders any of us who were in the business world know you need quality personnel to be successful so you get the best you can find.

Greg Davis there is a juco TE out there who could make a difference get off your butt and find him.

Colt Named 2008 Chevrolet Offensive Player of the Year

Colt McCoy received the 2008 Chevrolet offensive player of the year award during the half time activities of the Texas - Texas A&M basketball game Saturday night.

He guided the Longhorns to a 24-21 win over No. 10 Ohio State in the 2009 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl in which his 41 completions and 58 attempts were BCS and Texas records. His 414 passing yards ranked second in BCS history and are the third-most in UT history. McCoy has now started, won and been named Offensive MVP in all three bowls in which he has played.

Colt became only the second Longhorn to win the award following Ricky Williams who claimed it in 1998.

If the Longhorns have the season we expect in 2009, Colt should be a shoo in for the Heisman next year.

UT Becoming A Basketball Powerhouse

It's a great time to be a Longhorn.Texas has been perceived to be a football school predominantly but those times are gone. Now we are competative in all the men's and women's sports that we field teams in.

I can remember going to men's basketball games in Gregory Gym in the late 50s and early 60s where most crowds numbered only in the hundreds.

Jody Conradt was winning the SWC almost every year and ran up one undefeated season for a national championship but our men's team was not as successful.

Today only two Div. I schools have thier football, and men's and women's basketball teams ranked by the AP.Those schools would be UT &OU.

UT,OU and Baylor have both thier men's and women's basketball teams ranked in the top 25.

Both the Horn;s men's and women's teams are now ranked # 14.   It would seem that we are turning into a basketball powerhouse.March Madness should really be fun this year.
